Chapter 159: 159-Trusting Me Was Her Biggest Mistake

Gigi:

I tried very hard to get Jenna to open up. Some of it worked, and some of it didn’t, until I pointed out how much she was missing out.

She was a little heartbroken because she spent all her time glued to her grandmother. So I decided I’d have to give her a little alcohol to get her to open up.

And it seemed like it worked.

But what she said next shocked me.

She didn’t realize it, but she had accidentally given away her secret.

She had a crush on Theodore.

My entire mood soured.

"Someone just like him," she added, trying to hide the fact that she had immediately blurted out his name.

"Ah, right," I said with a smile.

My brother looked at me and raised an eyebrow, silently pointing out that she was aiming far too high.

I mean, she was a fucking nobody.

A jealous, stupid-ass bitch.

This was exactly why I never agreed with Lady Lucille taking in someone else’s family. Now they had such high hopes, actually believing they belonged here.

After that, she kept going on and on about how her ideal man should be like Theodore.

I couldn’t tell whether she was trying to fool herself or fool me.

Was it really because she kept saying, "someone like Theodore," instead of just admitting the truth?

All she really meant was that she wanted Theodore.

But by repeatedly saying "someone like him," she was trying to play it safe.

After that, I had absolutely no desire to keep talking to her.

I began wondering how my plan would work if she was so hopelessly in love with Theodore.

She had to participate willingly.

So how was I supposed to make that happen?

My brother seemed to have lost interest too.

The moment she mentioned Theodore’s name, Oliver’s mood soured as well.

He had been trying to charm her ever since we left, and I could tell he was disappointed that she hadn’t even considered him.

I mean, Oliver thought he was just like Theodore. A playboy.

At least, that’s what Oliver believed.

How was I supposed to tell him it wasn’t about being a playboy?

It was about Theodore being wild.

He wasn’t just a playboy.

His looks, his actions, his personality, everything about him was different.

That was what made him special.

But I didn’t say any of that to Oliver. It would only make him feel worse.

And I really needed him for this.

As soon as lunch ended, I started to panic.

How was I supposed to get Jenna back home?

"We have to sober her up."

I groaned.

So Oliver started driving around while I let Jenna sleep in the car for a while.

Her phone kept ringing over and over again.

I was afraid Grandma Lucille was getting impatient.

Then, all of a sudden, my phone started ringing.

It was Jaguar.

"Hey," I answered pleasantly.

"Um, Gigi, is Jenna with you?" he asked.

I could already tell why he was calling. Grandma Lucille must have been making a fuss.

"Yeah, she’s with me," I replied before pausing and turning to look at Jenna.

"Grandma wants to speak with her. I don’t think she’s answering her calls."

The moment Jaguar said that, my eyes nearly popped out of my head.

That old woman was so fucking unhinged and clingy.

"Oh, actually, Jaguar," I said, lowering my voice to sound more secretive.

"Yeah? What is it?" he asked.

At least I knew I could trust Theodore and Jaguar with my life. If I ever got into trouble, they would always show up to help me.

"There’s a bit of a problem," I whispered.

"Sure. You guys can finish shopping, and then we can talk."

Jaguar understood immediately.

He was already willing to cover for me.

A smile spread across my lips, and I blushed shyly at how caring he was.

I knew he would risk his own reputation before ever risking mine.

Never mine.

"Grandma, they’ll talk to you once they’re done shopping," Jaguar said without hanging up the call.

"How much are they going to shop? They’ve been shopping for hours!" Lady Lucille almost yelled from the other end.

Her concern for Jenna really bothered me.

She should have been taking care of me like that because I was her grandson’s girlfriend.

But no.

She would rather focus on a fucking freeloader like Jenna.

"Grandma, they went shopping first. Then they had lunch, and now Gigi has decided to buy Jenna some gifts. You should really appreciate Gigi. She doesn’t usually have time for all this, but she’s taking time out of her day just to make Jenna feel special."

Jaguar’s voice was firm, almost as if he was annoyed with his grandmother for constantly questioning and pestering me.

"Fine, whatever. Don’t make such a fuss about it," Lady Lucille hissed. "Tell them to contact me the minute they leave the mall."

I heard footsteps moving away.

Maybe Jaguar had stepped out of her room.

"Tell me, what is it?" he asked, concern evident in his voice.

"We went to lunch, and Jenna insisted she wanted to try alcohol. I told her no, but she’s a grown-ass woman. How long can I stop her? It’s not like I’m her grandmother. I’m around her age," I said to Jaguar, already complaining about Jenna’s behavior.

I was only a few years older than her.

Why did everyone think I should be the one taking care of her?

Jaguar insisted on knowing more.

"Then she had a few drinks, and now she’s passed out in the car," I replied tiredly.

Jaguar, on the other hand, started laughing.

"What? Don’t laugh at me," I complained.

"No, it’s just that you always end up taking care of someone. How do you do that, Gigi?"

The admiration in his voice made me bite my bottom lip.

"Well, because I don’t want people taking advantage of an unconscious woman. Anyway, she’s just sleeping, and I know Lady Lucille is going to blame me for it because she thinks Jenna is this perfect girl while I’m a spoiled brat."

I let sadness seep into my voice.

I even heard Jaguar grunt under his breath.

"Nobody thinks like that, and they shouldn’t," he snapped. "Anyway, you don’t have to worry. Tell me where you are. I’ll come over and take care of the situation."

"I see," I replied.

I ended the call and sent him the address where we had parked the car.
