Chapter 101: 101-Stirring Drama

Verity:

Flashback:

"You two need to leave," she yelled at us while Justin hugged me tightly.

I watched her with tears in my eyes. "But we didn’t do anything," I uttered, my lips curling downward.

Justin’s hold around me tightened even more.

"I don’t fucking care!" she screamed, her expensive mascara smearing across her cheeks.

She began pacing back and forth in front of us.

Right in front of me stood the biggest mansion I had ever seen.

There wasn’t even a single room for us in such a huge house.

And the most painful part was that the woman standing before us, telling us all this, was our own mother.

"He doesn’t like you two," she snapped, stopping her pacing to yell at us again, referring to her new husband. "You two have become a nuisance, a liability."

I didn’t even know what those two words meant. I only knew from the expression on her face that they weren’t compliments. Nor was she showing us any love.

"But Mom, she’s telling the truth. She didn’t do anything," Justin spoke up.

He was only nine years old. That was as loudly as he could speak.

"I don’t fucking care!" my mother shouted again, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand before catching her breath.

"The two of you can’t stay here anymore," she declared, making it clear that this was her final decision.

"But..." Justin began, trying to approach her, but every time he did, she aggressively pulled away, forcing him to step back. "They became..."

"I don’t fucking care," she snapped. "Your father left me. Your father abandoned me with you two. And I lived. I survived that poverty. I’m pretty sure you two can do the same. I mean, after all, somebody has to pay for your father’s actions," she hissed, refusing to look directly at us.

That was not the real reason she was kicking us out of her new house.

The real problem was that her new family did not accept us. Her new husband’s children hated both Justin and me. They bullied me relentlessly, to the point that my mother made her decision.

I don’t know if I was being selfish, but I wanted her to choose us.

Maybe I was asking too much of her, expecting her to ruin her entire life and give up her chance at happiness a second time.

But I didn’t know.

I was just a child, staring at my mother.

My mother’s eyes were filled with hatred for me, and she seemed desperate to go back inside and hug someone else’s children as her own.

"The council will help you find a home," she finished.

I tried to run after her, but Justin hugged me tightly.

"There is no use," Justin murmured as the warriors approached us, gesturing for us to get into the car.

Warm tears streamed down my face as I watched my mother disappear into the mansion.

End Of Flashback:

I had woken up early that morning, sweating and in tears. That was how it always went.

But I had one important thing to do.

I walked out of the mansion and headed to the phone booth to make an important call.

"Ragnar, I think when I was hooking my bra back on, you accidentally put my phone into your pocket."

I chose my words carefully. I knew I did not have much time or much opportunity to speak. I could not keep rambling. I needed it to sound realistic.

So, when I made the call and someone answered, the moment I heard a small grunt, I knew it was Gigi.

Perfect.

I wanted her to know I was calling Ragnar. I just had not expected her to be the one to answer.

So, in that brief moment, I said exactly what I needed to.

"What are you saying?" Gigi snapped and I smirked.

"Oh, I’m so sorry, ma’am. Actually, I..." I started to fumble, exactly as I wanted to.

"Fucking explain yourself!" she yelled.

I folded one arm across my stomach, resting my elbow on my other hand, a smile playing on my lips.

"I, um... I left my phone with Alpha King Ragnar. I need it," I stammered, trying to sound confused, flustered, and embarrassed.

" Just tell him to come to the MC gas station. I’ll be there. I need my phone in a hurry. It’s an emergency," I explained.

The next five days were holidays, so nobody would be at the office.

That was why I gave her the address where I wanted her to come.

I had deliberately chosen that location because I knew she would be the one to show up.

She did not say anything after that. She simply hung up, and I knew she was already planning to come and confront me.

But I had a plan for that too.

I walked out of the phone booth and made my way back home.

When I got there, I saw Mrs. Baker standing outside my house. It looked as though she was trying to peek through the window.

"Um, are you looking for something?" I asked.

As soon as I spoke, she jumped and turned to face me, smiling uncontrollably.

But there was something uncertain behind her smile.

"No, actually, I wasn’t sure if you’d be home," she began, but she never finished her sentence.

I could already sense the judgment.

Over the past few weeks, she had seen multiple men come to my house. Jaguar. Ragnar. Even Roman.

So, of course, I knew what she was thinking.

"No, I’m alone. I wasn’t even home. Why? Is there something important you wanted to talk about?" I asked, not sliding the key into the keyhole because I had no intention of inviting her inside.

"Actually, I was hoping you could speak with Alpha King Jaguar and ask him to get my son-in-law a job," she said with a smile.

I watched her for a moment before finally nodding.

"Sure, I’ll try," I replied as I took the documents from her hands and stepped inside.

Yeah, over my dead body would I let anyone take advantage of me.
