Chapter 98: 98. Friends to Brothers
His eyes that stared at the vampires and rogues turned crimson and a loud and threatening growl erupted from the pit of his stomach as he matched towards them like a predator stalking its prey.
The vampires and rogues heard the growl of a beast and turned to look in the direction it came. There, they saw a bou with blood-red eyes staring at them while slowly, steady threatening steps towards them.
They subconsciously took backward steps without knowing it. When they did, they stopped and growled at his warnings but he continued walking towards them without stopping for a second. Fur had curved his body and his nails had turned into claws, his canines became fangs.
They wondered what kind of creature he was as they had never seen a wolf who shifts like that before. He shifted but was still standing on both feet and looked human but in a very disturbing way.
"What is that thing?" A rogue asked looking between his subordinates for an answer.
"Shouldn’t that be us asking you what kind of monstrosity he is?" A vampire snickered, sending a glare from the rogue wolf who had asked the question. Their eyes changed to blood red matching that of Darren, while the rogue shifters shifted to their beasts.
The two pups who were being bullied earlier shifted to their human skins. It looked like they shifted to their beast’s forms to protect themselves as the beast healed faster than the human side of them. One of them being stronger than the other, dragged his companion out of the way so they won’t get caught in a crossfire.
When they had moved far enough from the place they were before, they stopped and hid behind the trees watching what was about to happen from a safe distance.
The next they saw as soon as they peeped through the trees was Darren charging at the nearest rogue to him and killing it without much effort. The other rogues and vampires looked at the scene alarmed and readied themselves to attack back. Whatever it was that had come after them, they knew now that they could not underestimate it.
A three-on-one handicap match began with them and Darren had managed to kill one vampire and injure the other.
The rogue came from behind for a sneak attack but the little boy hiding in the tree ran out and pushed him to the side earning him a deep cut to the back of his left arm. He whimpers and rolls on the ground trying to get the pain to subside.
Darren noticed this and went after the rogue, leaving the injured vampire to escape.
He attacked and killed the rogue and turned to face the vampire but he was gone. Darren shifted back to his human skin, his body size returning to that of and ten-year-old child, and went forward to help the other boy who was clawed in the arm.
"Are you alright?" Young Darren asked and walked over to where the boy was. He falls on his knees to check his will and finds that he was injured in many more places than he had thought.
The boy sat up and sprang away from Darren’s touch making him halt his hand in midair. Hurt flashed across his eyes and he stood up and turned around to leave.
"I am Mateo," The boy on the ground said realizing that he had hurt his feelings. Darren’s feet halted upon hearing the boy talking to him. For someone who did not allow him to touch him, talking to him was the last thing Darren ever thought of. "Thank you for saving us."
The other boy was still hiding behind the tree as well and when he saw it was safe and the new entry did not harbor ill intent toward them, he came forward. "I am Levi." the boy introduced himself. "Thank you for saving us," he repeated what Mateo had said.
Young Darren looked dazed as he stared at the two guys who were his age, why they didn’t run away from him like a plague just like everyone else? Or treat him like a monster, especially after Seeing what he did? He wondered to himself.
He snapped out of his dazed state after they had stopped talking and looked at him as if waiting for him to introduce himself.
"I... I am Darren, Darren McCain," He said. And just like that, their friendship started and they became closer than brothers.

Back to the present, Darren had his eyes on Lazarus and Ezra, and his anger dissipated. He looked at Mateo and gave him a nod, "I am fine." he said and Mateo smiled.
"Good to hear, Alpha."
Darren cleared his throat, the aura of dominance that was radiating from the two of them had retreated, and the air no longer as suffocating as it was before. "Sit down all of you," Darren said looking at the other two alphas who were standing. They sat down and this time, Mateo and Ezra sat along with them not intending to leave them alone.
"I called you all here to get the report of what you were able to get from the rogues that were caught the day before yesterday," Darren said after everyone was seated.
Alphas Julio, Zeke, and Damon exchanged looks with each other before Alpha Zeke of Silver Lake pack spoke because it was his pack the rogues were held captive.
"Alpha supreme," Alpha Zeke said with a bow of the head. Darren and Lazarus squinted their eyes at him knowing that nothing good would be following that gesture. Sweat trickled down his forehead and he averted his gaze from Darren and Lazarus. " They died before we could question them."
"What?" Darren asked, his voice coming out as a growl. Alpha Zeke shifted on his seat ready to jump to his feet if he were to lunge at him. "How the f*ck did they did they die under your supervision?" Darren said, his voice was surprisingly not as loud as they had thought it would be. Rather it sounded calm with suppressed anger, making it sound like the calm and gentle tone of a reaper before taking your life.
