Chapter 75: 75. Nowhere is safe
"One of the Mystic wolves escaped," Kora answered. Ezra and Dana listened to her with rapt attention. "She was a ten-year-old girl who joined the other pups in the safe house and they all escaped through a hidden passage built into the safe room. She, along with the others, arrived at the Silver Moon pack." She paused to take a deep breath. "When the others returned, she did not and remained back there to avoid notifying the vampires and witches."
"I see now," Dana said, nodding her head.
"I guess that answers most of the questions," Ezra said leaning into the seat where he sat.
"Kora..." Dana called but right at that moment, Kora’s stomach growled, stopping her from continuing.
"I am hungry," Kora said. She stood up and left the room, leaving the other two people inside the room. She walked out and shut the door behind her. The people inside followed her with their eyes as she walked out. Dana let out a sigh after the door was shut.
"You are not happy with the situation are you?" Ezra asked, looking at the woman who was his Luna and best friend’s mate and wife.
Dana shook her head. "She is still young," Dana said, letting out her worries. "I don’t want to be gone so soon."
"We have grown attached to her in one way or the other," Ezra said, sitting upright and turning slightly on the chair to face her. "We can’t stop her if she wants to go with him. They belong with each other."
"I know, but I just can’t help it," Dana said.
In another part of the pack house, in the alpha’s office, Darren sat with a deep frown on his face. Raven and Mateo and Levi were also inside with them. They sat at the side and listened to the conversation between the two alphas and chiming in when necessary.
Darren and Lazarus glared at each other. They have been going over the same matter for a while now and none of them wants to retreat and agree with the other as they both stood firm in their decision. They were both standing and facing each other. From the look in their eyes, one could easily guess that they wanted to tear each other to pieces but were being held back by the table that stood between them.
"What makes you think I will let you have your way, Lazarus?" Darren asked, calling Lazarus by his name without his title. His voice was grim as he spoke. "You have no right to stop me."
"This is her home, she belongs here," Lazarus said. He knew he was entirely in the right to keep her there but, he could not bring himself to wonder what would happen to her once she was out of the pack. All these years, he had kept her I’m the pack, guarded and protected her making sure no harm befall her and now Darren wants to take them away without knowing exactly what he was dealing with. It was a risk that he didn’t want to take. "She is still too young for all of this." He said. Even he knew that for their kind, age didn’t matter as long they were both old enough for the bond to take effect.
"Are you listening to yourself at all?" Darren asked. His voice had become deeper and darker than it was. He was irked and he was surfacing slowly, slowly taking over. He would not care if Lazarus was her guardian or parent, he would have his flaws sink into Lazarus’s skin and flesh if he did not stop opposing him. "She is mine, and there is nothing you or anyone else out there can do about it."
Darren’s had turned crimson while Lazarus was still holding back his wolf. The room has become stuffy and suffocating because of the overbearing and clashing auras of the two alpha.
"She is not safe out there," Lazarus said, finally letting his beast surface and his eyes turned onyx. "I will like her where I can see her and protect her."
"Are you saying I am too weak to protect my mate?" Darren asked with a growl that he didn’t bother to hold back. "And tell me, Alpha Lazarus, where is it that you consider safe in this world?"
"Come back in two years," Lazarus said and sat down, trying not to take things too far. If they were to fight now, his lack would be in danger. "You can have her then."
"F*ck you, Lazarus." Darren cursed. "I am taking her with me whether you like it or not. The only one with the power to stop me is her, Kora, not you."
Raven and Mateo exchanged looks, with each other, starting to get annoyed about going around in circles and repeating the same words over and again. Raven decided it was time to have Kora in the picture. He mind-linked Ezra, telling him to bring Kora. ’Bring the girl here.’ He said.
’She isn’t with me,’ Ezra replied and looked at Dana who was still sitting next to him in Kora’s room. ’She should be in the kitchen though.’
’Bring her.’ Raven Said before cutting the link. "She’ll be here soon to handle his situation," He said to Mateo and Levi who looked at him not understanding what he meant at first. They nodded at him when they realized what he meant.
Mateo and Levi did not want to take sides in this but they had to agree and side with their alpha. They have been with him and know exactly what he is going through and now that he has found his solution, he is not allowed to take her with him. They also understood that Lazarus was trying to protect the only mystic wolf alive. She was important to his pack and someone who was being hunted by vampires and witches. It was only natural for Lazarus to want to hold on to her and keep with the pack for as long as possible.
The door to the alpha’s office and Kora walked in with Ezra following behind her. She walked into the room and all eyes were on her watching her. Her eyes moved to look at Darren whose eyes had turned red and at Lazarus whose eyes were pitch black.
