Chapter 69: 69. The first shift
They stared at her in a dazed state. They knew she didn’t mean to hurt them, and she didn’t seem to be in control, so they did not blame her for the incident.
Kora didn’t seem to understand what was happening around her. Her eyes shone green and red, one color in each eye. While her long hair danced with the wind, shining a bright blue. She suddenly turns away from them and started walking in a different direction. Letting her instincts lead her.
Seeing her walk away from the pack house and into the woods, the guards were quick to mind-link their alpha.
Inside the pack house, Darren who had just stepped out of the shower stopped in his tracks when the scent he has been waiting for hit his nostrils. The most beautiful and addicting scent on earth after rain, it was stronger, sweeter, and riper compared to before. It was so strong that he almost doubted what it was. He could feel her, her fear, and panic and he could hear the beat of her heart. for a moment he didn’t understand what that was but after five seconds, he dashed out of the room. He couldn’t wait to hold her in his arm, hug her, kiss her, and just keep her with him.
Darren looked at the time on his phone and saw that it was almost midnight, he now understood why her scent was so sweet to his senses. He got outside to where she was but he could not find her, but her scent was stronger there.
Shortly after Darren came out, Lazarus joined him and was not at all surprised to see him outside and neither was Darren surprised by Lazarus. "Where is she?" Lazarus asked while Darren walked away from there. He could feel she was in pain and wondered why.
He gave control to his beast to lead him to her and he walked past the trees as fast as he could. With each step that he took, the scent became stronger.
Seeing that Darren was tracking her using her scent which was faint in the air, Lazarus decided to follow him. He knew that Darren had a stronger sense of smell than he does, the scent might be faint to him but not to Darren, especially if what he thought was true.
On their way, they met the guard who had followed Kora trying to decipher which direction he should take. He could not believe he lost her. He was following her closely but maintaining a certain distance from her in other not to startle her, but she suddenly moved too fast and he lost sight of her. He tried shifting and running in the direction he saw her go but the burnt on his palm did not allow his beast to walk freely and he lost her. "Return to your post," Lazarus said to the guard who looked terrified that he had lost the girl.
Darren walked past the guard and followed following her scent. It was the middle of the night, he couldn’t understand where she was going at such an hour.
Back to Kora, She didn’t know where she was going but she was just walking following the string of white light that she saw on the ground. Besides the string of light, she couldn’t see anything else and her body was still aching but she continued following the light. After walking for a long time, she stopped and looked around the place she still could not see anything besides the light but the place felt familiar.
Crouching down as the pain was becoming unbearable, She heard the sound of her bone snap. Then another followed. And another. She creamed at the pain. Her body was bent in a weird position as the snapping continued.
Darren and Lazarus found her crouched on the ground and in pain, they sighed in relief. They didn’t like the fact that she was in pain but there was nothing that they could do to stop it. It all depends on her to fight it through. Darren did not undergo the process like this but he had watched it happen. He had a deep frown on his face. He has seen werewolves shift for the first time but this was the first time he was seeing one that was so difficult and painful.
He looked around the place and realized that they were at the border of the Silver Moon pack, a pack that no longer exist. He wondered why she was here of all places. He walked over to her and knelt in front of her. How he wishes he could take away her pain. He could feel the mate bond forming between them and the pull taking effect. His beast was growing restless within him. But instead of feeling uncomfortable with the growing restlessness, it brought a smile to his face.
Lazarus watched him walk over to her and didn’t stop him. If he wasn’t sure before he was now. Darren being able to sniff her out was enough proof. And if he couldn’t do anything to help Kora now, Darren’s presence should help her. He took a step backward further away from them.
"Kora," Darren called her placing his and her shoulder and ignoring the burn that he felt from touching her. He also felt the spark that erupts from body contact.
Hearing the familiar and friendly voice calling her, Kora looked in the direction where it came from even though she could not see him. "It hurts." She said in a whisper. "It hurts."
"I know, and It will be over soon," Darren said looking into those beautiful and colorful eyes. "Don’t fight it." He said and held her. He watched as she struggles to shift, fur sprouting from her body, her legs and hands bent to take the shape of a wolf and her face also changed. Her long hair withdrew as her face and head also changed. The process was slow and painful. "Don’t let go." were the last words she said before completely shifting.
Everything went quiet after the shift. Darren stayed as he was, on one knee. He looked at the beautiful wolf that now lay in front of him with fascination and admiration. She was the most beautiful wolf that he has ever seen.
Her fur was Baby blue, the same color as her hair but it had stripes of red and green across her back. Her tail had a silver line in the middle with red and green ones at its sides. There was an elemental triangle in her head, of red, blue, and green.
He stroked her fur with his hand, it was so soft under his touch that she thought he would never have enough of it. The spark had become stronger and his beast has finally confirmed her to be his mate.
