Chapter 54: 54. Enemies getting creative
Lazarus walked over to where Kora stood before he stopped walking. He looked at the face of the girl whose eyes and hair were still glowing and slowly dimming with a straight face. While everyone else had their mouths hanging open.
Though they did see what happened from the start, they did witness Kota’s outbursts and saw what happened to the three unwanted guests in the pack. They looked at the girl as if she was a puzzle they were yet to figure out.
While all eyes were on her, Kora’s eyes were scouting the area trying to Lacey the source of the scent that she caught. She then saw him standing at a distance away from them. When their eyes locked, she saw him give a nod to her before she turned to look at Lazarus whose eyes had been on her the whole time.
"Alpha." Emily greeted, shattering the silence around them. She walked over to her father with a smile while the man had a frown on his face. He wondered how she could be so happy when she had almost lost her head just a moment ago.
"Are still not going to tell me?" Kora asked Lazarus knowing that he knows what was happening to her but for some reason, he refused to tell her. "Them do you know how to stop this?" She picked up her hair that was over her shoulder and showed it to him. It was still glowing and she didn’t want to look like a light bulb.
"I don’t, but I am sure it will dim on its own," Lazarus said taking a handful of her hair in his handy have a closer look. "You should head back now. Have some rest and relax your mind, let’s see what happens next."
"Okay," Kora replied and started walking away when she came close to where Ezra was standing she stopped and looked at him. His face was slightly pale. "Are you okay, Ezra?" Asked Kora looking at him intently.
"I am fine," Ezra replied with a nod of his head "Go back inside, we’ll talk later." Kora nodded her head. Though he said he was fine she knew he was not. Weighing everyone that had happened, she came to realize why he was like that.
The pack’s safety was in his hands as the gamma and making that all trespassers are found and caught was his duty yet three of them had infiltrated the pack and came so close to the pack house that housed the alpha and Luna and many of the pack members thereby putting everyone in danger. Kora could already imagine how furious Lazarus would be. Though he had a call demeanour earlier and spoke to her like there was nothing wrong, it only proves how angry he was at what had happened.
"I’ll see you later," Kora said and gave an encouraging nod to him.
"Hello, gamma Ezra," Emily said while walking past him. He nods and gave them a soft smile to her and watched as she walked away with Kora heading for the pack house.
After Kora and Emily were out of sight and earshot, Lazarus turned and glared at Ezra and Emily’s father who had their heads bowed in submission. Ezra was the gamma and was in charge of the warriors and guards in the pack while Emily’s father was a warrior of the pack. "May I know exactly how they got into pack territory without your knowledge?"
No one spoke and Lazarus was getting even more annoyed. He looked at his gamma, he had never failed to do his job before. He knew that those rogues and their vampire allies were getting better at concealing their presence.
If it were to be an abomination then they would have been able to pick up its scent as no amount of magic can remove the stench of an abomination and he could not completely pin the blame on Ezra because he too did not feel any non-pack member crossing the borders the pack until a few minutes ago and he was told who it was.
"Forgive my incompetence, alpha," Ezra said with his head still bowed. "It won’t repeat itself."
"You can’t pin the blame on him entirely Alpha Lazarus," Darren said making his way to where the war standing. "As the alpha, you should know when there is a threat in your territory."
"Guests are not supposed to roam around with and guide, Alpha Darren," Lazarus said with a frown on his face. "What are you doing here?"
"My host was absent and I felt bored just sitting around, so I decided to take a walk and it brought me here, to you. What a coincidence!" Darren said tugging his hands into pants pockets. He looked at Ezra and the other man who still stood humbly before their alpha. "This isn’t their fault buy a proof that the enemy is getting creative, don’t forget, there are spell casters with them."
Ezra looked up at the face of the heartless alpha who was speaking up for them and wondered what happened to him that he was being so understanding. This was something he did not expect especially from Darren the Supreme Alpha. Darren had a temper that was hotter than that of Lazarus, when ever they were together, Lazarus, a was considered the calm one but right now they seem to be playing opposite roles where Darren was the calm one and Lazarus the other way around.
Little did he know that Darren was only able to stay calm because of a certain girl who had just left the place. Considering how he was before he left Shadow moon pack, he would most likely ask Lazarus to kill them at once rather speak rationally like he was doing right now if he had not seen the person whom he came to see.
"Have you experienced something similar?" Lazarus asked. His anger easing up a bit.
"No," Darren said, he moved as if shifting his weight from one leg to the other. "You and I are different, my senses are stronger than yours," Darren stated. Lazarus frowned and Darren continued. "My beta, gamma and warriors didn’t know when the pack was under siege, probably the same thing that happened here."
"You are saying this what is happening now?" Lazarus asked.
"Yes," Darren’s answer was curt. He and Lazarus shared a gaze for some seconds before Darren secured to ask a question. "why are they after that girl? And what is she?"
Earlier, he had also seen what happened. When he saw that Kora and who ever that the pup was were in trouble he was mad, he had heard moat of what they said even if her far away. It was the voices and words that he heard them say that made him walked towards the lake. The first thing that he saw was Kora and blazing red eyes and hair. He saw as those filthy rogues tried to make her inhale a substance and all he wanted to do was to rush over there and tear them to shreds. The only thing that stopped him was the sound of her voice when she yelled, ’Go do hell’ and then seeing the rogues go up in flames.
He stopped in his tracks and a good at a distance trying to understand what had just happened. He knew that they had coke for Kora but he did not know why until he witnessed that, as much as he was proud to know that she was special, he also knew that it meant trouble. He couldn’t help remember the Moon Goddess’ words an his heart squeezed within him.
Kora was a like trouble magnet, a light house that could not be missed especially with the physical changes that were making themselves known.
