Chapter 2299: Chapter 2299: Infertility
"Who asked you to compensate?" Sylvan Cheney was a little angry.
"I don’t know who either. Last time, a friend gave me a gift, and later our relationship soured, so he asked me to return it. Who was it? I can’t quite remember," Jasmine Yale teased.
Sylvan Cheney: "..."
"Do you think that friend is a bit petty and calculative?"
"People like that will behave after a good beating."
"Oh, will they?"
"You could give it a try."
Jasmine Yale laughed, "The things you give me are all so precious, and I haven’t given you anything. Don’t you feel it’s unfair? Or that I’m taking advantage of you?"
"Why would you think like that? I’ve always felt like I’m the one taking advantage of you. I even got a baby for free, who will call me ’dad’ in the future and take the Cheney surname. Isn’t it me who’s taking advantage?"
"Sylvan Cheney, didn’t we agree that my baby would call you ’Uncle’? And what’s with taking your surname? Did I ever say that?"
"Then who do you want him to take after?" Sylvan Cheney’s expression turned serious.
But after asking, he regretted it a bit.
This question would inevitably bring up the child’s biological father, a topic he least wanted to discuss.
But he’d already asked.
"Yale."
"Oh." Sylvan Cheney fell silent.
He didn’t speak again for quite a while.
The car was silent.
Seeing his displeased expression, Jasmine Yale tried to console him, "The gift is lovely, the bracelet is so exquisite. Did you spend a long time picking it out?"
"Yeah." Sylvan Cheney’s voice was muffled.
"Sylvan Cheney..." She called his name.
He didn’t respond, eyes fixed ahead, driving.
"Boss..."
He still didn’t respond.
Jasmine Yale couldn’t help but reach out, covering the back of his hand with hers, "Getting upset so easily? Not even responding when I call you."
"Not upset."
"I don’t believe it." She glanced at him, "I’m complimenting your taste, saying the bracelet is beautiful!"
"You’ve been helping me with proposals and projects without any compensation, so consider this bracelet your reward."
"Oh, so it was my reward," Jasmine Yale took her hand off his, "I wondered what it was."
"It’s not." Sylvan Cheney realized he’d misspoken, "It’s a gift I brought you."
"Alright, I got it." Jasmine Yale understood what he meant and smiled slightly.
All the way, Sylvan Cheney seemed to be dwelling on the baby issue, remaining sullen.
Jasmine Yale tried to talk to him, but he seemed uninterested.
"Boss, last time I had dinner with Assistant Yuvan, he told me something," Jasmine Yale said softly, "He said you’re with me because you can’t have kids yourself, so you set your sights on me."
"Say that again!" Sylvan Cheney suddenly hit the brakes, pulling over to the side of the road, turning to look at Jasmine Yale with a cold gaze.
Jasmine Yale surrendered, looking aggrieved, "It wasn’t me, Assistant Yuvan said it."
"Okay, he said that, did he?"
"Yes." Jasmine Yale nodded obediently, feeling like she had thrown her teammate under the bus.
Sylvan Cheney immediately dialed on his phone.
Jasmine Yale covered her ears, thinking Sylvan Cheney was going to reprimand Kade Yuvan.
Unexpectedly, the call went to the finance department.
"Deduct Kade Yuvan’s entire bonus this quarter, no, deduct his monthly bonus, quarterly bonus, year-end bonus, and attendance bonus! Delay his salary payments!"
