Chapter 65: ARE YOU SAYING HE ISN’T JUST AN ORDINARY ALPHA THAT DRIVES BIKE?

Chapter 66

Lumi

My feet barely touched the ground as Ren pulled me through the sliding doors of the hospital.

My heart was slamming against my ribs like a wild animal trying to break free, the terror for Theo making my vision blur at the edges.

But the moment we rounded the corner into the VIP pediatric wing, the air changed.

Callum was standing near the nurse’s station, his hands shoved casually into his pockets, talking quietly to an older, broad-shouldered man in a heavy charcoal coat.

Beside them stood Sienna, her arms crossed over her chest, a toxic, triumphant smirk plastered across her face. They looked like they had already won. They looked completely untouchable.

Until the heavy echo of Ren’s boots hit the floor.

The smirk vanished from Sienna’s face so fast it was almost comical. Callum froze mid-sentence, his jaw going slack as his head whipped around.

I watched, momentarily shocked myself, as the entire group...including the three massive pack guards flanking the hallway, collectively stepped back.

The smug, victorious energy in the corridor completely evaporated, replaced by a sudden, suffocating wave of pure, unadulterated fear.

They hadn’t expected Ren. They certainly hadn’t expected him to look like he was ready to tear the building down with his bare hands.

Ren didn’t stop walking. He didn’t shift his stance or bare his teeth, but the weight of his presence seemed to narrow the hallway, forcing Callum’s guards to lower their eyes.

"Where is my sister?" Ren asked. His voice wasn’t loud, but it possessed a dead, rhythmic quietness that made the hairs on my arms stand up.

Callum swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing nervously as he glanced at the older man beside him for backup, but the local pack head remained completely silent, staring at Ren with wide, calculating eyes.

I think he knew something was wrong when the men he brought with him looked at Ren with fear.

"She’s... she’s in the waiting room," Callum muttered, gesturing vaguely toward a heavy wooden door down the hall.

"Lumi, listen, this is a pack governance matter. I think we..." Ren stepped directly into his space, crowding him against the desk.

He didn’t touch him, but he didn’t need to. The raw, predatory heat coming off him was enough to make Callum choke on his words.

"You should pray to your stars that nothing happens to my sister," Ren murmured, his eyes locked onto Callum’s pale face like a death sentence.

"Because if she has so much as a scratch on her, Callum, I will make sure you regret every single breath you take after today."

Without waiting for a response, Ren reached back, wrapped his large, warm hand securely around mine, and led me straight past them. The guards and pack men parted like the Red Sea, completely unwilling to block his path.

He pushed open the door to the private waiting room, and my breath caught.

Neve was pacing the small space, her hair messy and her face pale. The moment the door clicked, she whipped around. When she saw us, her face broke.

She ran straight toward us, bypassing her brother entirely, and threw her arms around my neck, sobbing into my shoulder.

"Lumi, I’m so sorry," she wept, her frame trembling violently against mine. "I tried to stop them. I swear I tried, but they just pushed past the desk. I couldn’t do anything."

"Hey, look at me. Breathe," I whispered, rubbing her back frantically while Ren stood guard by the door, his eyes scanning the room. "Where is your boyfriend? Where is everyone?"

"I... I asked him to go help sort out the court documents across town earlier," Neve choked out, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, her voice cracking with pure frustration.

"The ones for Theo’s guardianship. I called him the second they walked in, but he was too far away. He’s not close. It was just me, Lumi. I was completely alone." My heart broke for her. I gripped her shoulders tightly, forcing her to meet my gaze.

"Neve, listen to me. It’s fine," I said firmly, letting the maternal strength I had been gathering pour into my voice.

"Look at me. It’s completely fine. Even though I want Theo to be okay, I want you to be fine too. You hear me?" Neve sniffled, looking up at me through tear-stained lashes.

"They might not physically hurt Theo right now because he’s Callum’s bloodline," I continued, glancing toward the wall that separated us from my son’s room.

"But they would have hurt you to get to him. They would have used you to hurt Ren. I am just so glad you’re safe. That’s all that matters right now."

Neve let out a ragged breath, nodding weakly against my chest.

Behind us, the silence from Ren was deafening. I turned my head slightly and saw him staring out the small glass pane of the door, his jaw ticking so hard the muscles in his neck were rigid.

The quiet fury radiating off him was palpable, filling every corner of the small room until it felt heavy enough to choke on.

He turned around slowly, his expression entirely blank, a terrifying mask of controlled aggression.

"Wait for me here," Ren said, his voice dropping into that low, absolute command that left no room for argument. He looked at me, then at his sister. "Both of you. Stay in this room and don’t open the door for anyone but me."

"Ren..." I started, but he was already moving.

"I’ll be back," he said flatly.

He turned on his heel, pulled the door open, and stepped out into the corridor, shutting the heavy wood behind him with a soft, ominous click.

The second the door clicked shut behind Ren, my chest heaved as I whipped around to face Neve, my hands flying to my hair in panic.

The image of those three massive, dark-suited guards flanking Callum and the older pack head burned behind my eyelids.

"Neve, what is he doing?!" My voice rose, thick with terror, my eyes darting frantically back toward the closed door.

"Why didn’t you stop him? He’s going out there completely alone against Callum, that pack head, and all of those guards! There are too many of them, Neve. He’s going to get himself killed!"

I expected Neve to share my panic. I expected her to run to the door with me, to try and pull him back, or at the very least, to look worried.

Instead, a small, knowing smile broke through the tear stains on her pale face. It wasn’t a smile of amusement, but something deeply settled, almost dark.

I froze, completely flabbergasted, my hands dropping slowly to my sides.

"Why are you laughing? Neve, this isn’t a joke! Your brother is out there walking straight into a slaughter!"

Neve wiped the last of her tears away with the back of her hand, her shoulders relaxing in a way that made absolutely no sense given the danger lurking just outside the drywall.

"It’s not my place to tell you, Lumi. Ren doesn’t want to tell anyone." I blinked, the confusion mixing violently with the desperate dread in my stomach.

"What? What do you mean by that? He’s your brother!"

"I mean..." Neve took a slow, deliberate breath, looking at me with an intensity that made my breath hitch.

"Ren isn’t who you think he is." My heart skipped a beat, a cold sweat breaking out across the back of my neck.

I stepped closer to her, my hands trembling violently as I pleaded with her.

"Neve, please. Expatiate. What are you talking about? What is he hiding?"

"I can’t, Lumi. It’s Ren’s place to tell you his own story," she said, shaking her head gently, her posture completely unbothered by the standoff happening in the hallway.

"What do you mean? Why won’t you tell me anything?!" Panic and frustration clawed at my throat.

I was tired of the secrets, tired of being the only one left in the dark while the world shifted beneath my feet, every single time.

"He is an alpha biker from a big pack, Neve! What else could there possibly be?"

Neve reached out, placing a firm, comforting hand on my trembling arm, but her eyes held a weight that terrified me down to my very soul.

"You should just know that Ren isn’t just anyone, Lumi. He isn’t the boy you think he is," Neve said, her voice dropping into a low tone.

Was she messing with me right now? Because I’m genuinely confused.

"Ren has achieved so many things in his life...things our father couldn’t even dream of achieving in all the years he had on this earth.

Even I can’t count or explain who he truly is, or the level of power he has reached. He always chooses to stay on a low profile, to live like this, but you shouldn’t even waste a single breath being scared on his behalf."

She paused, looking toward the door as if she could see right through the wood. The small smile returned to her lips, colder this time.

"Don’t be afraid for Ren, Lumi," Neve whispered, her grip tightening on my arm just enough to anchor me.

"Be afraid for all the people outside who just pissed him off. Because they have absolutely no idea whose territory they just walked into. They think it’s theirs but they’ve never been mistaken."

I stood perfectly still, her words echoing loudly in my mind. The room suddenly felt freezing cold, the lights overhead feeling sharper, harsher.

My mind raced, trying to piece together the image of the quiet, protective man who bought me chocolates and held my hand on rollercoasters with whatever terrifying shadow Neve was hinting at.

"Are you..." I swallowed hard, the realization suffocating me, making it hard to draw oxygen into my lungs.

"Are you saying he isn’t just an ordinary alpha biker? That he does dangerous things underground? That he’s...kind of...like a mafia setting?"
