Chapter 183: Kaelan Vs Demon (1)

Stomp.

Stomp.

The sound of footsteps echoed through the forest, blending with the gentle breeze and the rustling leaves of the towering trees.

A young man with black hair and gray eyes walked cautiously. His sharp gaze constantly swept his surroundings, searching for any sign of monsters or other students.

He was none other than Kaelan. A pair of daggers were gripped tightly in his hands.

"It’s getting late... I’ve come a long way. I’ll take a rest after a while."

As he continued walking, his thoughts drifted toward Damien.

He wanted to fight him... If possible, he wanted to fight right now.

It didn’t matter if he lost. It didn’t matter if he failed to reach the finish line.

He simply wanted a fair battle against Damien.

"Then there’s Noah."

Kaelan already knew that Noah had become incredibly strong compared to how he had been at the beginning of the academy.

"He’s definitely at the High Awakened Core Rank."

He muttered quietly. "But I also reached that level two days ago..."

A determined look appeared in his eyes.

"After Damien... I’ll fight him."

Rustle~

Whoosh!

Something shot toward him at incredible speed.

"What?!"

Kaelan instinctively raised his twin daggers and crossed them.

Clang!

A sword crashed into his daggers.

The impact was so overwhelming that Kaelan was blasted backward. His body was thrown through the air before he slid across the ground, leaving a long trail in the dirt.

He immediately forced himself back onto his feet.

Standing before him was a man. He appeared to be around thirty years old. But what surprised Kaelan the most wasn’t his age...

It was his appearance. The man standing before him was a Demon.

"Lucky me..."

The demon smiled coldly. "To find you here. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect."

Kaelan tightened his grip on his daggers.

His mind instantly recalled the battle against the demon Marbas...

The battle where several students had lost their lives.

Darkness slowly began covering both dagger blades. Black smoky trails leaked from them and drifted through the air.

Mana surged out from his core and flowed into his arms and legs, strengthening every muscle.

"You want to fight?"

The demon asked coldly. Kaelan answered only with a calm gaze. The next instant.

He vanished from his position.

Clang!

His daggers collided against the demon’s sword.

Clang! Clang!

Kaelan quickly retreated several meters before slashing both daggers outward.

Two razor-sharp crescents made entirely of darkness flew forward in an X-shaped pattern.

The demon’s sword glowed with a gray aura.

He casually swung it.

BOOM!

The collision produced a small explosion. The blast sent dust and fallen leaves flying in every direction.

Kaelan narrowed his eyes.

’He’s strong.’

Much stronger than any monster he had encountered so far.

The demon lowered his sword, his crimson eyes studying the young man with faint interest.

"Not bad."

His deep voice echoed through the forest.

"A first-year student capable of releasing such power."

He slowly pointed his blade toward Kaelan.

"But that’s all."

Boom!

The ground beneath the demon suddenly shattered.

He disappeared.

"So fast—!"

Kaelan barely reacted in time.

Clang!

His crossed daggers intercepted the descending blade.

The tremendous force bent his knees.

Crack!

The earth beneath his feet fractured into a spiderweb of cracks.

"Ghk!"

Kaelan gritted his teeth.

The demon wasn’t simply physically stronger...

His sword felt unbelievably heavy.

It was gravity magic.

Before Kaelan could recover.

Bang!

The demon drove a kick straight into his abdomen.

"Cough!"

Kaelan was blasted backward, crashing through several bushes before rolling across the ground.

He immediately flipped back onto his feet. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. The demon casually walked toward him.

"You’ve got decent instincts."

He slowly raised his sword.

"But instincts alone won’t save you."

Dark mana surged around Kaelan.

The black smoke surrounding his twin daggers thickened.

His gray eyes became completely calm. His body lowered.

[First Fang]

Whoosh!

His figure split into several black afterimages. The demon’s eyes narrowed slightly. Three Kaelans attacked simultaneously from different directions.

Slash!

Slash!

Slash!

The demon calmly swung his sword once.

A gray ripple spread outward.

Boom!

The immense pressure instantly dispersed every illusion.

Only the real Kaelan remained.

The demon effortlessly blocked both daggers.

Clang!

Clang!

Kaelan twisted his body. His right dagger stabbed toward the demon’s ribs while the left slashed toward his neck.

His attacks flowed like dancing shadows.

He was fast, precise and deadly.

The demon simply stepped backward. Every strike missed by mere centimeters.

"You are too predictable."

The demon’s free hand suddenly grabbed Kaelan’s wrist.

"What—"

Boom!

Kaelan was slammed directly into the ground. The impact blasted apart the surrounding earth.

Dust rose everywhere.

"Cough!"

Kaelan spat another mouthful of blood.

The demon didn’t stop. His sword glowed with gray mana. Several magic circles appeared around him.

[Gravity Spear]

The magic circles trembled.

The next instant...

Dozens of compressed gray spears shot toward Kaelan.

Without hesitation, Kaelan activated his Innate Ability.

[Black Star]

The surrounding mana trembled.

The incoming gravity spears visibly weakened the moment they entered the sphere surrounding him.

Threads of mana were forcefully drawn away from them.

Even the loose mana lingering throughout the air began flowing toward Kaelan.

The gravity spears became slightly smaller. Their speed decreased.

But only slightly.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

The remaining spears exploded around him. Each spear created a small gravitational field upon impact.

Kaelan darted through the barrage, narrowly avoiding the attacks.

Even so, his body grew increasingly heavier as the surrounding gravity continuously pulled at him.

Several spears still grazed his shoulder and thigh, leaving bloody wounds.

The weapons themselves were composed of compressed gravitational energy.

Kaelan breathed heavily.

’I can’t absorb too much... They’re simply too powerful.’

The demon observed everything with mild curiosity.

"So that’s your Innate Ability. A mana absorption type. Interesting."

The demon got some idea about his ability. What it does.

Which gave him more advantages. But Kaelan was not going to give up that fast.

There was another way to be safe, self harm and get eliminated.

So it was not like Kaelan had no chance of surviving.
