Chapter 466: the human continent

The dull rumble of reality tearing apart still echoed against the rocky walls of the basalt plain. In front of the two people, the gaping portal of the Abyss was spitting torrents of black and viscous mana, an energy so dense that it seemed to want to smother the light itself. Aeshma showed no hesitation. Her silhouette slid toward the opening with grace. She disappeared into the veil of darkness.

Lucifer advanced after her, his hair whipping the air heavy with ashes. His eyes were fixed on the horizon of nothingness that awaited him. As he prepared to cross the threshold, a hand shot out from the shadow to firmly grab his arm.

Lucifer froze instantly. He turned his head to meet the wary gaze of Konstantin. The immortal sorcerer stood there, his sickly smile stretching his features marked by a millennial madness.

"As a human you are truly interesting..." Konstantin began, his voice a rustle of old parchment. He paused, squeezing the young man’s arm a little tighter. "But if I were you I would be careful with this woman."

Hearing this, Lucifer did not respond immediately. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, a wrinkle of irritation crossing his forehead. He did not fear the sorcerer, but Konstantin’s tone was much more serious, stripped of his usual theatrical madness.

"She is extremely dangerous," Konstantin continued, his eyes shining with a bright gleam in the gloom. "And even if she gives off demonic energy... she is not a demon."

Lucifer remained motionless for a moment, letting the information anchor itself in his cold mind. The revelation about Aeshma’s true nature. However, Lucifer was not a slave to others’ warnings. With a sharp and sovereign movement, he pulled his arm free from Konstantin’s hand.

"The same goes for you," Lucifer spoke in a voice devoid of any human emotion. "I have no trust in you at all, so I have no reason to pay attention to what you say."

He stared the sorcerer straight in the eyes, his aura intensifying briefly to push back the old man’s shadow.

"But I will keep your advice in mind," he added finally with neutrality.

Then, without granting him another look, he turned around and entered the portal of the Abyss in turn, leaving Konstantin alone.

At the same moment, Sulyvhan arrived on the Human Continent after leaving the wild shores of Arcadia. The man standing on the coast was no longer the frail child adopted by the Lycan Pack, but a twenty-year-old warrior with an athletic build. His silver eyes swept the landscape with contained horror.

He was immediately struck by the sight of the completely destroyed surroundings. Where prosperous villages and fields of golden wheat should once have been, there remained only a desert of slag and ashes. Human and animal bones littered the ground, bleached by the demonic mana that stagnated in the air like a poisonous mist. The imperial architecture, once the jewel of Alexandria, was now nothing but smoking ruins.

Suddenly, without any warning sign, the sky radically changed color to become red. The clouds began to swirl violently above the mountains, and an invisible shock wave made the earth tremble under Sulyvhan’s boots.

Seeing this, the young man seemed a little surprised, straightening his posture while wondering what it could be. He felt a sickly energy pouring out without wanting to stop.

Suddenly, a shrill and desperate cry tore through the deathly silence of the desolate province, coming from behind a hill of debris.

Without losing a second, Sulyvhan launched himself in the direction of the cry, using his rapid movement technique. His body became a silver streak that sliced through the dust-laden wind.

Upon reaching the top of a pile of stones, he discovered a nightmarish scene. A group of demons, creatures with twisted horns and ebony skin, were sowing chaos among a small group of human survivors who were running everywhere, desperately seeking a nonexistent refuge. The monsters, driven by pure fury, were gutting the men and devouring the limbs of the weakest under the horrified eyes of the children.

Sulyvhan did not hesitate. His hand went to the hilt of his sword.

Drawing his sword with a swift gesture, he released a beam of silver light. The blade of white aura sliced through the air, tracing an arc. It struck only the demons and monsters a few meters away from him, sparing the civilians huddled behind the debris. The first two demons were cleanly severed at the waist before they could even realize his presence; their bulging eyes widened for a moment in surprise, then their bodies cut in two slid to the ground with a dull thud, their intestines spilling onto the broken tiles in a vapor of black and viscous blood that bubbled on contact with the air.

Sulyvhan landed in the middle of the carnage, his boots sinking into a puddle of this corrosive blood that was already eating away at the stone. His gaze filled with rage shone coldly. A massive demon, whose arm had transformed into a bone axe bristling with sharp spikes, charged toward him with a guttural roar.

He concentrated his energy in his left hand, palm open toward the assailant, and projected an invisible but tangible shock wave, a brutal compression of the air that distorted the air around him. The wave hit the demon head-on, crushing its ribcage with a sharp sound of bones grinding, so loud that it momentarily drowned out the noise of the battle. The monster let out a muffled scream, black blood spurting from its gaping maw, before being thrown against a brick wall that collapsed on it in a cloud of reddish dust. No sooner had the demon disappeared under the rubble than Sulyvhan followed up fluidly; he spun on himself, his blade tracing arcs of death that decapitated the monsters one after another. Each movement flowed without the slightest hesitation.

The demonic blood, corrosive and fetid, stained his clothes, but Sulyvhan continued to kill with surgical precision, protecting the stunned civilians. With each movement, the power of his Art left devastating cuts on the ground.
