Chapter 142: Ch-142: Online Auction
"It’s taking forever," Rachel complained.
"Be patient, just five more minutes left," Andrew rolled his eyes at Rachel, who pouted.
Olivia, Rachel, and Andrew were currently in a five-star hotel and were glued to the laptop, which displayed the timer for the auction to start.
On the laptop, the official page of the World Magic Trade Center was open and was currently showing the countdown for the online auction of the Armor, Boots, and Sword, which the officials had labeled the "Warrior Set." Victor had sold them, and they were now up for auction.
"I wonder which idiot sold it. Knowing the World Magic Trade Center, they must have bought the items for three to five billion dollars, considering they set the starting bid at ten billion dollars," Rachel said.
"By the way, Olivia, have you already registered for the Academy entrance exam?" Andrew asked.
"Yes, I have, in fact, and I also passed the preliminary round," Olivia tore her gaze away from the laptop, looked at them, and replied.
"There are only two days left. I was hoping to meet that Faceless guy, but it seems he won’t be participating," Andrew said with a sigh. Not only him, but many people thought he would try to enroll in the Academy, as there had been an announcement from the Academy that they would shield him from the top families if he joined.
"Well, maybe we could find some hidden experts and recruit them into our guild," Rachel chimed in.
"That’s not possible, Rachel. Didn’t you read the Academy rulebook?" Andrew said while rubbing his temples upon seeing the clueless look on her face.
"What rulebook?" Rachel asked innocently.
"There is a strict rule to protect talented Awakeners that no guild or family can recruit or harm them while they are in the Academy, or else they will face retaliation from the entire world. Even my family doesn’t dare break that rule," Olivia said in a calm tone.
"What! There is such a thing?" Rachel asked with wide eyes and clicked her tongue, as many of her plans would need to be readjusted. She was clearly disappointed upon hearing this rule.
Andrew continued, "I heard most top families were furious that the UN was protecting commoners and wanted to apply pressure, but something happened that forced them to back down. Even the Patriarch of my family had a fearful look on his face and told us not to break the rule."
Rachel’s eyes widened and she asked, "Seriously? Do you know the reason?"
Andrew hesitated before saying, "Actually, I heard some rumors that the Headmaster is a very formidable Warlock."
"Really?" Rachel asked with a raised eyebrow, and even Olivia was surprised, as this was the first time she was hearing this.
Ding!
Everyone’s heads snapped toward the laptop screen upon hearing the sound from it, which showed only thirty seconds left before the auction began.
As soon as the thirty seconds had passed, the bidding window opened, and everyone started bidding like crazy.
The current bid had already jumped to fifteen billion dollars, and the momentum did not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
"Tsk, all of them are bidding like their lives depend on it," Rachel said as she clicked her tongue.
"Yeah, and these people who are bidding at the start won’t even get the chance to acquire the item. The top families are still waiting, and once they start bidding, all of them will be crushed," Andrew remarked.
Rachel looked at Olivia and asked, "Olivia, should we start bidding as well?"
Olivia turned to look at Rachel and said in an indifferent tone, "Who said we will bid?"
Her reply caught both Andrew and Rachel off guard.
"You don’t want to bid?" Andrew asked with a furrowed eyebrow.
"Of course not. These are just uncommon-ranked items, which can be found if you kill enough monsters. If they were superior-ranked, I would have bought them. Why should I spend my guild’s fortune on these items? Let the families behind us bid for them," Olivia replied indifferently.
"..." Rachel
"..." Andrew
--------
"The heck, I completely forgot about this." Victor clicked his tongue as he stared at his smartphone screen in regret and annoyance.
He had completely forgotten that the items he sold could be auctioned as a set item in the real world.
This morning, he had woken up with Amber beside him and checked the World Magic Trade Center website. He knew they were going to auction his items, which was the most lucrative method to sell them due to their scarcity, but what he did not expect was the ridiculous price.
Currently, as he stared at the screen, the price of the set items had already reached 20 billion dollars, which made him feel a bit regretful.
He checked the comment section below the auction and clicked his tongue.
[Who is the idiot who sold these items?]
[Hiss, the price has reached 20 billion dollars and it’s still climbing. I wonder how much it will reach by the end of the auction.]
[Damn, I feel so envious. I wish I could participate in the bidding. Even if I couldn’t get the items, just the feeling of bidding is otherworldly.]
[Hah, I’m pretty sure these items will be acquired by the top families or the government.]
Victor clicked his tongue and sighed as he closed the screen. It was his fault that he had forgotten the fact that his items could be sold as a set. He had no one but himself to blame.
"I should sell a few more items later. I still need to buy a building in a prime location for my guild," Victor mumbled as he thought about the issue. He then opened his screen, went to the World Awakeners Academy website, and registered both Amber and himself for the entrance exam.
Then Victor got a mail.
"Oh, the preliminary round is today. I should get ready."
With that, Victor walked to the washroom to get ready.
