Chapter 38: Chapter 38: He’s a Turtle Anyway

Chloe Dave was in disbelief. "Beverly Lynch, you hit me too? I was just speaking up for you!"

"Are you crazy! I don’t need you to speak for me." Beverly Lynch frowned. "You dared to get physical in front of all these people, and you still say you didn’t hit anyone?"

Chloe Dave was so angry he was about to cry. With nowhere to vent his fury, he let out a yell and slammed his fist into the nearby wall.

"Fine, I’ll take the fall. Beverly Lynch, you’ll regret this one day." He turned to leave.

Julian Lancaster’s voice was quiet. "Have you apologized to Jay?"

Two bodyguards quickly stepped forward, blocking his path.

Jane Lancaster had to admire Julian Lancaster. Even now, he was being relentless, demanding an apology.

’His mental fortitude is way stronger than mine.’

’Not only does he lie with a straight face, but he’s even convinced himself! I’m relentless when I’m in the right, but he’s relentless even when he’s in the wrong. Impressive!’

’When it comes to bullying people with power, Beverly Lynch and I are just amateurs compared to him.’

Pauline Shaw was utterly shocked. ’Julian is lying? But how is that possible!’

Chloe Dave felt incredibly wronged, but he didn’t dare show any dissatisfaction toward Julian Lancaster. He could only pin this grudge firmly on Jane Lancaster.

"I’m sorry." He squeezed the two words through his teeth, his face an ugly, purplish-red.

Jane Lancaster maintained her "white lotus" smile. "It’s alright. Just try not to be so reckless in the future."

Chloe Dave secretly ground his back teeth and left without another word, his face dark.

"Wait."

His heart skipped a beat. He stopped and turned back, looking at Julian Lancaster warily.

"I was the one who won the necklace at the auction. It’s an engagement gift for Jay." Julian Lancaster looked up at him. "I just got off the plane and wanted to give my sister a surprise. Since when did that become her snatching something from someone else?"

Chloe Dave’s expression shifted subtly. He couldn’t help but ask, "Then you..."

He wanted to ask, ’If you were here all along, why did you say I hit your sister?’

Julian Lancaster read his eyes, his voice calm and frank. "Since you can make a baseless accusation, I can be just as stubborn, can’t I?"

Jane Lancaster stared at him in astonishment.

’Does he mean that since Chloe Dave slandered me, he can just slander him right back?’

’Brilliant. Now that’s a real eye for an eye. The logic is, ’I’ve decided you’re the one who hit her, so you have to admit it whether you did or not.’’

’My own brother is more wicked than me, the villainess!’

In the end, Chloe Dave pressed his lips together and left without a word.

He wasn’t an idiot. When Julian Lancaster had no intention of being reasonable with him, how could he possibly win against him?

Everyone present was completely baffled, not understanding the silent riddle the two were exchanging.

But one thing was certain—

"So President Lancaster was the one who bought the necklace!" someone realized with a start.

Beverly Lynch had always been high-profile, so she naturally attracted a lot of attention.

The news that she had failed to win the necklace had already spread like wildfire.

Many people loved the drama and didn’t mind stirring the pot. After all, back when Jane Lancaster was injured and in a coma, even Pauline Shaw and Beverly Lynch had mostly stopped fighting.

Now that Jane Lancaster was back in the socialite circle and had snatched the jewelry Beverly Lynch wanted, ostensibly to support Pauline Shaw, it looked like they were about to start fighting again.

Everyone was speculating about how Beverly Lynch would strike back. After all, Miss Lynch was not someone to be trifled with and would definitely find a chance to get her revenge.

But now things were awkward. The necklace incident was orchestrated by the eldest young master?

"Mandy, don’t be angry." Beverly Lynch’s girlfriends immediately tried to placate her. After all, they couldn’t afford to offend the Lancaster family’s eldest young master.

Beverly Lynch snorted. "Boring. When was I ever angry? It’s just a necklace. I didn’t even like it that much."

Pauline Shaw couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. ’You can’t afford to offend Julian, so of course, you can only pretend you don’t like it.’

She now understood completely. To protect Jane Lancaster, Julian Lancaster had actually lied.

Julian Lancaster was seven or eight years older than them and an idol to many. Since she was little, she had always liked this steady and gentle older brother figure.

Even someone as arrogant and domineering as Beverly Lynch had to be more restrained in front of Julian Lancaster.

In her heart, Julian Lancaster was synonymous with integrity and honesty, but she never imagined he would actually slander someone.

Her heart felt cold and stung, accompanied by a nauseating feeling, as if she’d swallowed a fly.

Jane Lancaster was a bit surprised by this sudden bonus. After a moment’s thought, she asked, "Pauline, what are you looking at?"

Pauline Shaw was about to say it was nothing when a thought struck her, and she turned to stare at someone.

"I just think Beverly Lynch’s boyfriend looks pretty good, and his values seem to be in the right place."

Jane Lancaster followed her gaze.

Their scrutiny must have been too obvious, because the man noticed and looked up at them.

Pauline Shaw gave him a friendly nod.

’Not good!’ Jane Lancaster quickly lowered her gaze, affecting an expression of complete indifference.

Before Pauline Shaw could figure out what was "not good," she saw the man frown.

Then, without a second’s hesitation, he immediately turned his head to speak to Beverly Lynch.

Beverly Lynch immediately looked over warily, her gaze meeting Pauline Shaw’s head-on. "Pauline Shaw, what are you looking at? Don’t you have a boyfriend?"

Noticing the surrounding gazes turning toward her, Pauline Shaw was so angry she felt like she was having a heart attack.

’Does she think I’m coveting her boyfriend? She’s nuts!’

’If anyone’s going to covet him, it should be someone else. I don’t have any special... preferences!’

Jane Lancaster was just happy the flames of war hadn’t spread to her.

’Pauline Shaw is still too young. Beverly Lynch’s boy toy is a prize graduate of the ’School of Male Virtue.’ Why are you staring at him? Trying to become a part of their foreplay?’

’But when that guy frowned, he really did look a lot like Caleb Lowell.’

Pauline Shaw thought, ’So you finally noticed. Do you get it now? Even the boy toy Beverly Lynch found is a stand-in for her cousin. She’s clearly not over him.’

’You refuse to keep a low profile, and on top of that, you blatantly flaunt your relationship on social media. How could Beverly Lynch possibly stand it?’

’She came here today specifically to pick a fight with you. What does it have to do with me?’

"What are you two talking about?" Julian Lancaster walked over, breaking the silence.

"Julian." Pauline Shaw gathered her chaotic thoughts.

"You’ve been with Jay today? Thank you for your trouble." Julian Lancaster’s voice was gentle. "Jay’s health isn’t good. I’ll have to ask you to look after her more in the future."

Pauline Shaw froze for a moment, then nodded.

"Brother, I don’t need anyone to look after me," Jane Lancaster said with a smile.

Julian Lancaster gently ruffled his sister’s hair. "How could you not? If I hadn’t been here today, you would have been bullied."

Jane Lancaster laughed and changed the subject. "So you heard everything, Brother. Did you arrive when he was accusing me of snatching the necklace?"

"I’m sorry. I gave you the gift to make you happy. I didn’t expect it to cause you trouble instead." Julian Lancaster tacitly admitted it.

Jane Lancaster: "It’s a good thing you heard and saw everything, Brother. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to explain myself."

’Actually, he was probably eavesdropping from the very beginning, wasn’t he?’

’Sigh, then he must have also heard me deliberately insinuating that he has no class, is a sewer rat, and is dark and twisted inside, right? And he’s not even angry?’

’But even if he is angry, he can only sulk about it internally. After all, he’s a turtle, too afraid to confront me face-to-face.’

’Besides, as long as I’m shameless enough to just deny everything, what can he do to me?’
