Chapter 34: Chapter 34: To Sell or Not to Sell

Sales associates in uniform were scattered throughout the exhibition hall.

Beverly Lynch, holding a card, waved over a nearby associate to run it.

She then said to Luna Morgan, "Take the necklace off. Since I’ve bought it, it’s not appropriate for you to wear it any longer."

She was accustomed to giving orders, so even with a placid tone, she came across as condescending.

Luna Morgan froze. ’Since my friend asked me to model such a valuable necklace, they must hope I can sell it as quickly as possible.’

She touched the necklace on her neck with some reluctance. After all, what girl doesn’t love beautiful jewelry?

But a moment later, she began to take off the necklace without hesitation, ready to hand it over.

Her expression was serene, showing no trace of resentment at having something taken from her, nor any indignation at the humiliation.

The men in the crowd, however, all glared at Beverly Lynch. This was a blatant humiliation!

Beverly Lynch didn’t take it, however. Instead, she glanced at the sales associate. "Clean it thoroughly before boxing it up for me."

This remark clearly ignited the crowd’s anger. It was one thing to snatch it away, but was she also implying it was dirty just because Luna had worn it?

"That’s going too far!" someone couldn’t help but exclaim, their gaze toward Luna Morgan filled with pity.

Pauline Shaw also clenched her fists. Beverly Lynch was deliberately trying to embarrass Luna Morgan.

Her fingertips brushed against the card in her purse. She hesitated for a moment before calling out, "Wait a..."

Her voice was drowned out by another—a man’s baritone that completely overshadowed hers.

Pauline Shaw followed the sound and saw a man approaching, flanked by several others in black suits.

’What an entrance. Looks like the cavalry’s here for the face-slapping.’ Jane Lancaster wasn’t the least bit surprised.

Beverly Lynch always tried to use her money to bully Luna Morgan, but unfortunately for her, she failed every single time.

First, Luna Morgan was genuinely indifferent to money. She didn’t covet wealth or compare herself to others; her lack of desire was her strength.

And second, a high-caliber man would always show up just in time to back Luna Morgan up, putting Beverly Lynch in her place with a taste of her own medicine—money.

The man stopped in front of Luna Morgan and took the expensive necklace right out of the associate’s hands. "I’m very sorry, but this necklace is not for sale."

Beverly Lynch frowned, staring at the man. "Not for sale? And who are you to say it’s not for sale?"

Her flock of fake friends immediately chimed in to support her.

"Yeah, who do you think you are? This has nothing to do with you!"

"Even when you’re shopping, it’s first come, first served. Our Mandy saw it first."

"There’s nothing Mandy wants that she can’t get. Who the hell do you think you are?"

"If you’re not selling it, are you just going to let *her* keep wearing it? Look at her! Does a poor wretch like that even deserve it?!"

Jane Lancaster looked like she couldn’t bear to watch.

’I take back what I said about Beverly Lynch not being stupid. What kind of friends does she have?!’

’Listen to them spouting all those classic, villainous cannon-fodder lines. No wonder she gets taken out of the story so quickly and miserably.’

Pauline Shaw shot a smirk at Beverly Lynch. "If he says that, it means he has the power to make sure you don’t get it."

This man just reeked of money. His clothes and demeanor were extraordinary. She already had a suspicion.

And just as she thought, a middle-aged man nearby stopped the sales associate. "This is our own Mr. Vinson."

It dawned on Beverly Lynch. "You’re the newly appointed director for Roché Jewelry’s Celestria Region?"

The man didn’t even spare Beverly Lynch a glance. As he reached out, revealing an expensive watch on his wrist, he fastened the necklace back around Luna Morgan’s neck.

Then he said gently, "This necklace looks much better on you."

Luna Morgan shifted uncomfortably and asked in a low voice, "Vinson, is the necklace really not for sale? It’s okay with me. Your business is more important."

She genuinely hoped her friend and Beverly Lynch could both get what they wanted—one making a sale, the other getting a necklace she liked. A happy ending for everyone.

The young woman’s innocent expression made the man chuckle. "You’re so adorable."

"I said it’s not for sale, and I meant it. No one is taking this necklace off your neck today."

Beverly Lynch must have either really wanted that necklace or simply refused to be publicly humiliated. She pressed, "What about after the exhibition? It’ll be for sale then, right?"

"Exactly! Didn’t you hire her just to be a model? She only gets her generous commission if it sells," her friend Willow Summers added.

The man’s expression darkened. "Who said she’s here to model? She is my honored guest, not some influencer hired to move product."

"Furthermore, I was planning on gifting this necklace to her after the exhibition."

Everyone present was stunned.

Who gives away something so valuable, just like that?

Willow Summers leaned closer to Beverly Lynch. "Mandy, what’s their relationship? Why would he give her such an expensive gift?"

Her words inevitably sparked speculation. Young Master Miller, who had been an admirer of Luna Morgan, suddenly looked sour.

Pauline Shaw’s expression changed. "Willow Summers, what are you implying? Speak clearly!"

Vinson swirled the red wine in his glass, his gaze icy. "Was it you who just said a ’poor wretch’ like her doesn’t deserve this necklace? And you do?"

Willow Summers’ face flushed crimson. She certainly couldn’t claim she deserved it; that would just be setting herself up to be put in her place.

Her gaze swept the room before suddenly locking onto Jane Lancaster, who was watching the drama unfold from the sidelines. "I just think... only someone like Jane Lancaster is worthy of this necklace."

Jane Lancaster: "???"

One might have many questions. She, however, had many ’what the fucks’.

’What does this have to do with me?!’

Pauline Shaw frowned. "Don’t drag uninvolved people into this."

In her eyes, Willow Summers dragging Jane Lancaster into this mess was definitely at Beverly Lynch’s behest.

Sure enough, Beverly Lynch immediately took the bait. "Well, it involves me now, doesn’t it? I checked, and this necklace is still listed as for sale at this exhibition. I’m buying it!"

Pauline Shaw couldn’t help but curse, "Beverly Lynch, are you insane?!"

Beverly Lynch had been like this since childhood. No matter what it was, if Jane Lancaster was involved, she had to have it.

"Jane Lancaster, is that you?" Vinson stopped swirling the wine in his glass, his gaze finally landing on Jane Lancaster.

Jane Lancaster smiled and waved. "Hey, long time no see."

He’d gone and gotten himself an English name, which was why she hadn’t recognized him at first.

Pauline Shaw eyed them suspiciously. "You two know each other?"

"This is Jim Jenson, the young master of the Jenson family. He was quite the prodigy when we were kids. His family sent him abroad to study because he was always having ’genius’ ideas."

Jim Jenson—Vinson—looked grim. "Are you spying on me?"

Jane Lancaster replied, "Not at all. Just a coincidence. But you’re actually back in Celestria? Look at you, a rare sight. You didn’t even tell me you were coming back."

Jim Jenson’s expression soured even more. He’d only been back in the country for three days, and this was his first public appearance. For her to show up here... it was hard to believe it wasn’t on purpose.

He didn’t even finish his wine. He turned and left in a hurry.

Once he was gone, his entourage quickly followed.

Jane Lancaster: "..."

’Seriously? What a piece of work. Is he just going to abandon his friend like that?’

’He doesn’t think I was trying to scare him off, does he? No way. He’s a grown man, is he still afraid of me?’

Pauline Shaw’s brow furrowed. ’Afraid of her? What did that mean?’

And considering the current situation, had Jane really not done this on purpose?

Willow Summers suddenly asked, "So what about the necklace now? Is it for sale or not?"

All eyes turned to the necklace on Luna Morgan’s neck. Startled, she took two steps back.
