Chapter 29: Chapter 29: For Once, I Want to Do a Good Deed

’Forget it. Once you find out how I left you for dead, you won’t keep feeling sorry for me.’

’But aren’t the side effects of this shoddy power lasting a little too long? It really hurts.’

’If I’d known, I would have slapped Ethan Carter a few more times. He’s the reason I had to block several knife slashes with my bare hands.’

Alvin Lancaster sat slumped in place, his chest unbearably heavy.

Hearing this, he shot his head up. ’What does my sister’s inner voice mean?’

Just as he was about to turn his wheelchair, a figure came running down another corridor.

"Luna?" Alvin Lancaster was surprised. "What are you doing here?"

"I was still worried, so I came to check," Luna Morgan said, stopping to catch her breath with her hands on her knees.

Jane Lancaster walked out of the emergency building, annoyed.

It was still raining outside. The car was parked a few meters away at the bottom of the steps, and Mama Knight was getting ready to open an umbrella and help her down.

With a soft FWOOSH, a large black umbrella opened, shielding the sky above her head.

"Allow me." Jasper Sterling’s voice was gentle, and the way he supported her arm was unbelievably soft.

Left behind on the steps, Mama Knight felt a looming sense of unemployment. Young Master Sterling was too willful, and it made her a little sad.

After Jane Lancaster got into the car, Jasper Sterling took the opportunity to get in as well.

"Young Master Sterling, you’re so strange. Was this car rented for me or for you?" When Jane Lancaster was annoyed, she just wanted to pick a fight.

Jasper Sterling replied, "Of course, it was for you, Jane. I’m just tagging along for the ride."

Jane Lancaster: "Then get out."

Jasper Sterling looked troubled. "But I didn’t drive here, and the hospital area is cordoned off by the police. I can’t get a cab..."

Jane Lancaster didn’t buy his excuse for a second. She sized him up for a moment, then unexpectedly reached out to pat the pocket of his suit pants.

Jasper Sterling: "..."

’That was close. Good thing I had the foresight to secretly toss my car keys in the trash.’

"Jane, I’ve recently learned some massage techniques. How about I give you a massage?"

Without waiting for Jane Lancaster to refuse, he placed his fingers gently on her arm.

Jane Lancaster was about to refuse, but she quickly began to see him in a new light!

As Jasper Sterling massaged her, he watched her expression, gradually increasing the pressure. The moment she so much as furrowed her brow, he would immediately lighten his touch.

The massage was so comfortable that Jane Lancaster started to feel a little drowsy.

’My God, how is he so good at waiting on people?’

’With skills like these, even if you go bankrupt, you could become the top masseur at a club on your own merit!’

Jasper Sterling chuckled and lowered his gaze. ’A masseur, huh? If she’s willing to be my sugar mama, that might not be so bad.’

The rain pattered outside, filling the car with white noise.

"You haven’t changed all these years, Jane. You’re still as kind and gentle as when we were kids," Jasper Sterling suddenly mused.

"You must be misremembering." Jane Lancaster thought for a moment. ’The original owner of this body was anything but kind and gentle as a child.’

But Mama Knight strongly agreed with Jasper Sterling. "Our Young Miss was a bit aloof as a child, but she was actually a soft-hearted, good girl. She was sensible, polite, and always thought of others."

Jane Lancaster: "..."

’Mama Knight, your rose-colored glasses are a little too thick. I was clearly domineering and arrogant since I was a child.’

Jasper Sterling lowered his gaze and continued, "But I prefer the woman you’ve become. Gentle, yet resilient; compassionate, yet restrained."

Jane Lancaster said with a deadpan expression, "Oh. Thanks for the compliment."

’All I did was not kick you out of the car. Is that really worthy of such forced praise?’

’This guy is such a smooth talker, telling people whatever they want to hear. It’s a shame. He’s charming as a villain but lacks what it takes to be the male lead. No wonder the author is going to write you out of the story.’

Jasper Sterling: "..."

’How can I tell her that every word I said came from the heart?’

The car soon arrived at the hotel’s villa district.

As Jane Lancaster got out of the car, she thought for a moment, then turned back and said, "Young Master Sterling, I’ve recently learned a bit of the art of face reading."

Jasper Sterling’s eyes lit up slightly. "Oh? Are you going to tell my fortune, Jane?"

He asked enthusiastically, "Do you need to read my palm or calculate my birth chart? I’m fine with either."

Jane Lancaster took a step back. "It’s the art of face reading. I read faces!"

’Have I been too nice to him today?’

Jane Lancaster said with a grave expression, "I see a darkness between your eyebrows. You shouldn’t travel abroad for the next year. If you do, you’ll face a bloody disaster that will endanger your life!"

The smile on Jasper Sterling’s face gradually faded, his eyes darkening in an instant to the color of the deepest night.

Jane Lancaster’s heart skipped a beat.

’Is he upset? I guess so. Words like that sound like a jinx. I was trying to do a good deed for once. I hope it doesn’t backfire.’

"If you don’t believe me, you can find a master to do a reading for you," she added, her tone more emphatic.

"I believe you." Jasper Sterling’s gaze never left her face for a second, watching her deeply, so deeply.

The veins on the hand pressed against the door bulged. He was usually so poised and distant, but at this moment, he seemed incredibly aggressive.

Just as Jane Lancaster thought he was about to force his way in, the hand slowly pulled back.

A smile slowly spread across the young man’s face, adorning the corners of his eyes and brows, shining as pure and brilliant as a diamond.

It was breathtakingly beautiful.

"Jane, I believe you." He looked down at her, his charming eyes smiling with the utmost gentle radiance. "But I have one question."

Jane Lancaster: "Are you going to ask how to avert it..."

Jasper Sterling gently interrupted her. "I wanted to ask, by revealing the secrets of fate, will there be any negative consequences for you?"

Jane Lancaster: "..."

"No! Goodbye!" She slammed the door shut with a BANG.

Then she leaned against the door and touched her chest.

’This is killing me. No wonder he became the most charismatic character in the entire book after appearing in less than three Chapters. Even I almost couldn’t handle him.’

Outside the door, Jasper Sterling stood in place for a moment before slowly turning to leave.

’It took so much willpower to keep myself from turning back.’

A few of Jasper Sterling’s assistants were waiting outside.

The first moment Gavin saw his boss, he felt something was off.

How to put it... he had never seen Jasper Sterling smile like that before.

It wasn’t the perfectly calculated, harmless-looking smile, but a joy that he couldn’t suppress, even after trying to push down the corners of his mouth several times.

His charming eyes shimmered as if filled with the waters of spring, making one feel a contagious sense of joy.

But the thought of his boss’s ruthless methods quickly squashed any idea of asking questions.

The man was definitely no goody-two-shoes. Beneath that harmless exterior could be a demon.

"Uncle Jennings said he found the car keys. He’s bringing the car back right now," Gavin reported.

Though he couldn’t understand why a perfectly fine set of car keys would suddenly end up in the trash can by the elevator.

According to Uncle Jennings, when he was rummaging through the hospital trash can, he was almost arrested by the police as a suspicious character.

This was truly bizarre. The boss never misplaced things; he’d never even forgotten a document.

And what made him even more curious was, how did the boss predict so accurately that a violent incident would happen at the hospital?

But even if he had a hundred times the courage, he wouldn’t dare seek the answer.

He didn’t bring it up, but Jasper Sterling took the initiative. "There was a stabbing at the hospital today. Go investigate exactly what happened when the incident occurred."

"Yes, sir!"

Jasper Sterling’s voice was icy. "And this orderly named Ethan Carter. What’s his relationship with the suspect, and what role did he play in this incident?"
