Chapter 20: Chapter 20: I Can’t Wait to See Big Brother

On the way, Jasper Sterling spoke up with a reminder, "Special Assistant Cole is heading back today. The fact that you didn’t check into Julian’s presidential suite probably won’t stay a secret for long."

Jane Lancaster: "I know."

Over the past two days, the hotel had already turned away several waves of people for her—people delivering food, traditional Chinese medicine masseurs, and people dropping off clothes.

The others were one thing, but it was truly difficult to keep the masseurs out.

Jane didn’t ask how Jasper Sterling had handled it, but since no one had discovered anything was amiss, it meant he’d done a good job.

But Julian was different. He knew this villa existed and would probably notice something was wrong very soon.

"I’m afraid Julian is coming back," Jasper Sterling said.

Mama Knight’s face lit up with pleasant surprise. "Really?"

She was afraid she was dreaming. After all, the Young Master was so busy. Even when Miss Jane had woken up a few months ago, he had only managed to rush back and stay for three days.

Jasper Sterling nodded. "Those overseas projects are in their final stages. The follow-up work doesn’t require him to be there in person."

Mama Knight was overjoyed. "That’s wonderful! The Young Master will definitely hurry back to support Miss Jane!"

After a moment, Jane Lancaster finally said with a smile, "I’m starting to miss my older brother a little, too."

’I remember that by this time, Julian, just like Pauline Shaw, had already seen that video.’

’Of course he has to hurry back to handle this and fulfill his responsibility as a good older brother.’

’Anyway, as soon as he gets back, Alvin is going to be in for it.’

Jasper Sterling sighed. "I really envy the bond between you and your brother."

Jane Lancaster: "That’s right. My older brother is the best older brother in the world."

She checked the character panel. Julian’s favorability toward her was still at 92%.

This was completely different from Caleb Lowell. His favorability had collapsed after watching the video, but even though Julian had seen it, it didn’t have much of an effect.

’As expected of the devoted second male lead with a sister-complex character setting. His favoritism and protectiveness know no bounds.’

"I don’t think there’s any limit to how well Julian should treat you, Senior," Jasper Sterling said suddenly.

Jane Lancaster looked up at him.

Jasper Sterling: "After all, if you hadn’t entrusted your shares to him, he wouldn’t have control of the board."

He had an innocent and harmless look on his face, as if he had no malicious intent whatsoever.

But the words he spoke were quite explosive.

"So he should be putting you on a pedestal, eternally grateful. Otherwise, wouldn’t it be great if you became the chairman yourself, Senior?"

Mama Knight stared at him in shock. ’Can he just say things like that?’

Jane Lancaster said in a calm voice, "You can go now."

Just then, the car came to a stop. Jasper Sterling seemed slightly regretful. "Goodbye, Senior."

The young man sauntered away, completely oblivious to how malicious his words had sounded.

At first, Mama Knight was angry, but now she was a little uncertain. "Miss Jane, was he trying to sow discord?"

She didn’t understand much, but Miss Jane had reminded her before not to mention the matter of Julian holding her shares in proxy.

The siblings had a good relationship, and they could discuss things privately behind closed doors. But if an outsider brought it up, they most likely had intentions of driving a wedge between them.

What’s more, Jasper Sterling’s words were practically an explicit hint. If this wasn’t sowing discord between siblings, what was?

Jane Lancaster sighed. "You’re only just realizing that now?"

She turned to look at Mama Knight’s shocked expression and couldn’t help but laugh. "Just kidding, I’m teasing you."

Still, Jasper Sterling’s words did serve as a reminder for her.

That night, Jane Lancaster lay in bed, checking her asset information.

"Sys, The Lancaster Group pays out dividends every year. Where are my dividends?"

The original owner of this body was the youngest daughter of the Lancaster Family, and also the most spoiled child.

After Timothy Lancaster staged his comeback, he gave his daughter a lot of assets and shares.

Back when Julian was brought back to the Lancaster Family to be groomed as the heir, Timothy Lancaster had once pointed at him and said with a laugh, "Jay, your older brother came back just to work for you."

Jane Lancaster was the second-largest shareholder in the Lancaster family, second only to her father.

The annual dividends should add up to a lot of money!

Sys: [’But you signed an agreement to waive your dividends, agreeing to use them for the company’s technological research and development.’]

Jane Lancaster: "..."

"Sys, are you trying to piss me off on purpose?" Jane Lancaster finally said darkly.

She couldn’t remain calm in the slightest. That was hundreds of millions in dividends!

’What’s the point of R&D? Just take the money and run! The Lancaster Family is going to go bankrupt sooner or later!’

[’But you’ll get thirty billion if you complete the mission.’]

Jane Lancaster shook her head. "You don’t get it. I want the thirty billion, but it pains me to see so much money thrown into the water just to hear a splash, okay?"

The original owner was just too extravagant. In elementary school, she could use her allowance to pay her nanny’s salary.

But she had been a poor kid, the kind who wished she could split a single penny in two. She couldn’t be generous in the slightest!

"Right, about my shares... can I..."

[’No, you can’t! Julian would never allow you to sell your shares!’] Sys said warily.

"Am I that kind of person? Sys, you underestimate me!" Jane Lancaster said with a smile. "I just think I’ve figured out a way to max out Julian’s dislike value."

As the tragic second male lead, Julian naturally had a miserable past.

When the Lancaster Family’s misfortune struck, he was only about ten years old. He lost his mother, then his comfortable life. But without even the right to cry, his father sent him back to the countryside to bear the responsibility of caring for his two younger brothers.

Later, when Timothy Lancaster staged his comeback, Julian was brought back to the city to be groomed as the heir, but he was required to be eternally grateful to his younger sister.

Under Timothy Lancaster’s twisted and extreme upbringing, he became outstanding and self-disciplined. He valued family, doted on his sister without limits, and always put the family’s interests first.

But in doing so, he cast aside his personal feelings and lost his sense of self.

It wasn’t until he met the kind-hearted female lead that he gradually began to awaken, no longer willing to be a puppet in his father’s hands.

But by then, he had already committed too many sins to protect his sister, and it was too late for regrets...

"The reason Julian cleans up my messes is because he feels guilty toward me. Since he holds my shares, he naturally feels a responsibility to protect me."

Jane Lancaster smiled sweetly. "But what if I fight him for the position of heir? What if I team up with outsiders to backstab him?"

The villainess was able to cause trouble until the very end, and it had everything to do with the Lancaster family’s soft-heartedness and consideration for kinship.

But if she were the first to betray that kinship, would they still indulge her?

"This way, I can max out the dislike value quickly without all this back-and-forth, and Julian won’t have to blame himself for failing to raise his sister properly!"

"I really can’t wait to see my older brother," Jane Lancaster said with some anticipation.

Sys: [’...’]

The Host was too exceptional, single-mindedly focused on the mission. For a moment, it didn’t know if this was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Oh, right, Sys. I cleared Alvin’s favorability value, so there should be a reward, right? First, find someone for me. Second, exchange for an item like ’Bronze Walls and Iron Ramparts’."

Sys asked cautiously: [’...What are you planning to do?’]

Jane Lancaster: "To cause some trouble, of course."

「Late that night.」

Caleb Lowell finished his work for the day, only to realize he had missed the time to send Jane Lancaster a goodnight message.

He rubbed the bridge of his nose wearily, feeling anxious about his oversight.

In the past, no matter how late it was, he would always personally text Jane Lancaster to say goodnight to each other.

He had already missed saying goodnight to her once last night because his plane had landed late.

"Didn’t I tell you to remind me?" Caleb Lowell looked coldly at his assistant.

When he got angry, the few people on his team were all frightened into silence.
