Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Willing to Smear His Own Hotel’s Security System

"Jay!" Caleb Lowell frowned. How could she keep making excuses for Luna Morgan?

Or was this just her way of testing him? Testing his attitude toward Luna Morgan?

Jane Lancaster yawned. "Alright, it’s all in the past. We have to look forward."

Caleb Lowell looked at her stubbornly. "Jay, I won’t allow you to put yourself in danger for someone else again!"

Jane Lancaster shook her head like a rattle. "I won’t."

’What a joke. I’m not an idiot. Who could possibly be more important than my own life?’

Caleb Lowell finally relaxed. He couldn’t bear the pain of losing her again.

He looked at her deeply and promised solemnly, "Jay, don’t worry. I won’t have anything to do with Luna Morgan from now on. Trust me."

Jane Lancaster nodded haphazardly. "I trust you."

’I’m so sleepy. Can I go back to the hotel and sleep now?’

Caleb Lowell couldn’t help but smile wryly. He found her drowsy appearance dazed and cute.

He thought, ’There’s plenty of time. I’ll have opportunities to prove to her that she’s the only one I love.’

"Jay, I’ll take you back to rest."

Jane Lancaster’s eyes lit up slightly. ’Finally, it’s over.’ "Okay, take me to The Crestwood Hotel!"

The doorbell rang. Mama Knight opened the door. "Miss, Special Assistant Cole is here!"

Calvin Cole was the most trusted subordinate of the Lancaster Family’s eldest young master, Julian Lancaster.

He was dressed in a suit, looking travel-worn. He had clearly heard about last night’s events and rushed back from out of town.

Seeing Jane Lancaster was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open, Mama Knight felt a twinge of regret that she couldn’t tattle to Special Assistant Cole.

When he learned Jane Lancaster was going to The Crestwood Hotel, Calvin Cole was surprised but also relieved. "That’s good. Miss must be missing the Young Master."

The second bedroom of Julian Lancaster’s presidential suite at The Crestwood Hotel had always been reserved exclusively for Jane Lancaster.

In the past, whenever Julian Lancaster was too busy, Jane Lancaster would bring her homework to The Crestwood Hotel to keep him company.

The siblings were very close, a fact that all their subordinates had witnessed.

"Since it’s what Miss wants, let her stay there. A change of scenery might be good for her condition," Calvin Cole said.

Caleb Lowell nodded.

The two of them escorted Jane Lancaster to The Crestwood Hotel.

Jane Lancaster got out of the car, and the cold wind sobered her up a bit.

"You two can go get back to your business. I can go up by myself." She paused, her voice gentle. "Zion, your phone keeps ringing. Is it something from the office? Don’t work too late tonight."

Caleb Lowell hesitated, but his phone rang again.

"Go on." Jane Lancaster’s smile was soft and gentle, just like it was many years ago.

Caleb Lowell hesitated no more, turning and striding toward the car, which was still running.

Jane Lancaster watched as the two cars left one after the other.

Mama Knight was a little confused. Why didn’t Miss make it clear that she wasn’t staying in the Young Master’s presidential suite?

But she quickly cheered up again, saying with a smile, "Miss, I told you so! Young Master Lowell can’t stand that Luna Morgan at all!"

Caleb Lowell hadn’t tried to hide his conversation from Mama Knight, so she had heard every word clearly.

"Your move of running away from home was the right one! Young Master Lowell has declared he won’t have anything to do with Luna Morgan anymore!"

"Once the engagement party is held, Luna Morgan will have even less nerve to bother Young Master Lowell."

There was a shuttle cart at the side entrance of the hotel lobby that could take them to the villa area.

Jane Lancaster walked over, and just as she was about to get on, a slender, well-defined hand reached out to help her.

Jane Lancaster looked up and met a pair of smiling, almond-shaped eyes.

"Jane. What a coincidence."

「On the shuttle cart.」

Jasper Sterling said apologetically, "My apologies. Someone was asking for your check-in information, so I gave them a little nudge and let them assume you were staying in the Young Master’s room."

Mama Knight had a sudden realization. ’So that’s what happened! No wonder neither Young Master Lowell nor Special Assistant Cole was suspicious!’

Jasper Sterling continued, "But given President Lowell’s cautious nature, I thought he would at least see you to your room before leaving."

It had started to rain again outside. DRIP, DRIP. The shuttle cart passed through the resort-style courtyard and entered the villa area.

Mama Knight couldn’t help but defend Caleb Lowell. "Young Master Lowell is just too busy..."

Jasper Sterling nodded. "Yes, President Lowell must be very busy. It couldn’t possibly be that he doesn’t care about you, could it? No, of course not."

Mama Knight said, "Young Master Lowell cares deeply for Miss! In the past, no matter how busy he was, he would make her medicinal porridge every day and stay with her until she fell asleep!"

Jasper Sterling’s smile became even more gentle and harmless. "That’s right. In the past, when Young Master Lowell brought you here, he would always see you all the way to your room before leaving."

"After all, a hotel isn’t like home. People are always coming and going. No matter how good the security is, it can’t keep out every bad element. And with your poor health right now, he should be even more worried than before."

At first, Mama Knight nodded along, but as she listened, she froze.

’That’s right... Caleb Lowell never used to just drop her off downstairs and leave...’

Panic rose in her heart. ’Could it be that Young Master Lowell doesn’t really care that much about Miss anymore?’

Jane Lancaster felt a little helpless.

’Mama Knight, you’ve fallen right into his trap. Can’t you see he’s just trying to stir up trouble?’

She glanced at Jasper Sterling again.

’Honestly, this is too much. To steal another man’s girl, he’s willing to slander his own hotel’s security system.’

’Then again, the hotel really did have a security issue later on. Someone set them up, the hotel got blasted on the hot search rankings, and its reputation plummeted... But you were already gone by then.’

Jasper Sterling’s eyes narrowed slightly. This was the second time he had heard about his own fate.

The cart suddenly stopped.

The white-gloved, uniformed driver rang a small bell, signaling their arrival.

The driver was just about to open an umbrella, but Jasper Sterling took it from him.

Beneath the black umbrella, the young man stood tall and slim. He politely extended a hand, his gaze like the surface of a black lake on a rainy night—immeasurably deep, yet shimmering with a faint, rippling light.

Jane Lancaster ignored the offered hand, quickly got out of the cart, and ducked under Mama Knight’s umbrella.

Jasper Sterling’s fingers curled slightly. The spring night’s wind felt exceptionally cold.

Just as cold as it had felt that afternoon when he received the engagement party invitation.

Jane Lancaster suddenly turned back to look at him. "Has it ever occurred to you that the reason I didn’t let him escort me to my room was simply because I didn’t want him to know where I was staying?"

Jasper Sterling was slightly taken aback.

"If anything comes up regarding my big brother’s presidential suite, remember to handle it for me," Jane Lancaster said.

She stepped into the villa and shut the door with a BANG.

The spring rain pattered down. Under the umbrella, there was only silence.

"Let’s go." After a long moment, Jasper Sterling finally spoke.

The shuttle cart turned around and headed toward the main hotel building.

The occasional streetlight cast flickering shadows across the young man’s face, revealing those almond-shaped eyes, which were shimmering to an absurd degree.

"So she didn’t want him to know, she wasn’t just throwing a tantrum." A slight smile touched Jasper Sterling’s lips, his ambition laid bare.

He propped his chin on one hand and said with a grin, "Well, that’s just fantastic!"

The driver listened, his heart pounding with fear.

’But what can I say?’ he thought. ’I can’t very well advise my own young master that stealing another man’s fiancée is immoral, can I?’

Jane Lancaster stayed at the hotel for another day.

With Jasper Sterling covering for her, no one yet knew that she hadn’t checked into Julian Lancaster’s presidential suite.

She figured they all thought she had run away in a fit of pique and was relying on her big brother overseas for support.

Everyone was waiting for her to process her emotions, waiting for her to find a way to gracefully back down.

Even if she couldn’t find a way, Caleb Lowell was about to go on a business trip, and they would never let her stay outside by herself.

That evening, Alvin Lancaster texted her again, asking if it was okay for him to pick her up tomorrow.

Alvin Lancaster had sent more messages today than in the past several months combined.
