Chapter 412: Chapter 412: The Humble Maid, the Soul Body Sees Through Everything
This wasn’t the first time the topic had come up. Earlier, when they’d encountered a few weeds stuck in the crevices of some rocks, the Taiyin Saintess had used a little bit of her strength—not an excessive amount.
Besides, almost no one in Yuanqing Courtyard would pay it any mind. They would just think of her as a capable worker.
When the maid, Leng’Er, brought it up, she was mostly just teasing.
Not everyone could be like the maid Celestial Fragrance and get the chance to practice Cultivation.
Wanting the perks of being a maid while also hoping for a chance at promotion... things were rarely that good.
Anyone who managed it was either incredibly lucky or had powerful backing.
The former was a matter of sheer luck and extremely rare, while the latter wouldn’t need to be in this position to begin with.
Those from the Cyan Yuan Sect’s Affiliated Forces generally didn’t have to work as Servants. Instead, once they comprehended Power, they would join the Sect and become Official Disciples.
"Shui’Er, you’re as thoughtful as ever. I wonder which man will be lucky enough to have you?"
Hearing this, the maid Leng’Er giggled and sidled up to the Taiyin Saintess, teasing her.
She had seen Shui’er’s figure before; it was truly impressive. Even under her clothes, it was obvious she was well-endowed.
Whoever married Shui’er, their children would never go hungry; they’d be raised all plump and healthy.
"Leng’Er, you’re teasing me again! I’m ignoring you!"
The Taiyin Saintess slipped into the role of the maid with absolutely no sense of awkwardness.
After all, to impersonate the No-Life Saintess, she had relived every single one of the woman’s experiences, so thoroughly that not even the Mother of No-Life or the No-Life Sect Leader could tell anything was amiss.
So playing the part of a mere maid was now second nature to her.
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you!"
"There are three more weeds over here, all growing in the rock crevices. Let’s pull them out together!"
"I don’t get this garden. It’s full of rocks, which makes cleaning it up such a pain!"
Leng’Er couldn’t help but complain.
As an ordinary person, she still had her frustrations.
If they only cleared the visible parts of the weeds and their Steward, He Zilan, saw it, she would reprimand them.
She would lecture them, saying that they could work slowly, but the job had to be done right, not just half-heartedly.
In truth, He Zilan wasn’t particularly harsh on them. Other than denying them any chance to get close to Yang Chan, she didn’t treat them unfairly.
Their situation was much better than that of maids serving other Pharmacists.
They spent most of their time inside Yuanqing Courtyard. But sometimes they would go out to dispose of rubbish or collect food ingredients. On those occasions, they would run into maids and attendants from other courtyards, some of whom they knew from their home village.
And naturally, they would chat about the conditions in their respective courtyards.
By comparison, life in Yuanqing Courtyard was quite good. He Zilan’s actions didn’t make her a bad person. At least she didn’t frame them or assign them an impossible amount of work. She only took away any chance to get close to Yang Chan.
Even they would do the same if they were in her shoes.
It was a path to change one’s destiny. Naturally, no one would overlook such an opportunity; they would seize it and never let go.
The two worked together, busily and methodically clearing the weeds from the garden to make it look tidier.
As Yang Chan walked through the courtyard, he noticed the two new maids. They were from the group he had personally selected.
He had a general memory of what each of them looked like, and this Shui’Er stood out in his mind. Sometimes, a more prominent figure leaves a stronger impression.
While her face wasn’t particularly striking, she was certainly striking in other areas.
’Years of manual labor would certainly make her stronger than most.’
Yang Chan didn’t dwell on her appearance. Instead, his gaze shifted toward the garden, and a suspicion formed in his mind.
’Some special Spirit Medicines require a unique environment to grow. Arranging stones to cultivate them is a fairly common practice.’
’Especially since Elder Hua lived in this courtyard for a very long time. He must have set up many things and planted quite a few Spirit Medicines.’
’The obvious Spirit Medicines were likely taken by Elder Hua when he left. And with so many people having searched this place since, it’s almost impossible that anything valuable was left behind!’
However, a thought occurred to Yang Chan. He suddenly wanted to check for himself.
He wasn’t planning to investigate physically, but with his Soul Body. In the eyes of a Soul Body, the world was an entirely different place.
What one saw with their eyes was perceived differently by the senses of the Soul Body.
By that same logic, things that were hidden might not be able to remain so to the Soul Body’s senses.
He wanted to use his Soul Body to scan the courtyard and see if it was hiding any secrets.
He’d had this thought ever since moving into the courtyard, but with everything that had happened, he had postponed it.
Now that the idea had resurfaced, it seemed like a good time to investigate. He had nothing pressing to do anyway; he had just been planning to relax and observe the newly recruited maids.
Yang Chan walked to a nearby pavilion and sat down.
Focusing his Spirit within his Essence Upper Embryo, a Soul Body leaped forth. The world before his eyes instantly underwent a dramatic transformation.
The once colorful, dappled world dissolved into a series of strange lines. It was as if everything had been deconstructed and then redefined.
But Yang Chan, now in his Soul Body form, was already accustomed to this new world. His physical body shone with a special light—this was how a Soul Body perceived a Martial Arts Expert.
Ordinary people appeared dim and lightless, while Martial Arts Cultivators radiated light. The higher their Cultivation, the more dazzling that light became. This was one reason why Martial Arts Experts could not hide their level of Cultivation in the world of the Soul Body.
Of course, there might be a way to conceal this light, but Yang Chan didn’t know of any, or even if such a method existed.
