Chapter 532: Chapter 226: From South to North, Sweeping Across the Eight Wastelands (2)
"MOO!"
As Chu Lingguang rode the great black steed onto the grassland.
Many of the Iron-Armored Bulls—whether they were strolling through the grassland, grazing with their heads down, or digging at the turf with their horns in hopes of unearthing the Spiritual Rabbits within—took notice of Chu Lingguang.
An Iron-Armored Bull that had been lying on the grass was the first to get to its feet, letting out a bellow toward Chu Lingguang.
It seemed to be a warning, an attempt to stop Chu Lingguang from advancing any further.
Chu Lingguang could sense its meaning.
But he couldn’t back down at such a critical moment.
"Senior Brother, charge out with me!"
Chu Lingguang said in a low voice.
The great black steed looked more and more like Hei Hu, and he couldn’t help but call it Senior Brother.
The great black steed’s spirit surged. Under the influence of Chu Lingguang’s consciousness, it charged straight ahead as if it hadn’t even seen the surrounding Iron-Armored Bulls.
’Is he a Beast Tamer?’
Young Master Jin Yi wondered.
He had already noticed the unspoken understanding between the great black steed and Chu Lingguang, how it would charge forward for him without any regard for its own safety.
Aside from a Beast Tamer, only a master who had raised a beast from birth could achieve such a feat.
"No, there’s something strange about his power."
An old man behind Young Master Jin Yi opened his eyes and spoke.
Ever since Chu Lingguang had appeared, the old man had kept his eyes closed, sensing the power fluctuations emanating from him. The undulation was most distinct when Chu Lingguang had charged out from beneath the forest canopy.
After capturing a trace of it, he had pondered it for a long while and now seemed to have an answer.
"Teacher has an answer."
Young Master Jin Yi actually addressed the old man as Teacher.
"It’s Consciousness Manipulation. Chu Lingguang’s Sea of Consciousness is anything but simple."
The old man nodded.
"Oh."
Surprise filled Young Master Jin Yi’s face.
His gaze remained fixed on the figure galloping across the grassland as he couldn’t help but ask, "Can he withstand the consciousness fluctuations released by the Iron-Armored Bulls?"
"At his age, even if his Sea of Consciousness Power is somewhat special, it can’t be all that powerful. Otherwise, he would have already attracted the attention of Yuanchu Mountain back on Mountain Rain Peak. Perhaps he can block the waves from ten Iron-Armored Bulls, but any more than that will be difficult."
The old man judged.
As Young Master Jin Yi’s teacher, his perception was razor-sharp, and his words carried great authority.
Young Master Jin Yi nodded, clearly agreeing with the old man’s assessment.
"MOO!"
Seeing that Chu Lingguang still dared to advance, the Iron-Armored Bull finally lost its patience and charged toward him.
It was like a small tank. Once it closed the distance, it lowered its head and rammed straight forward. At the same time, its horns vibrated, creating a resonant force between them, like two electrical towers discharging energy.
With his powerful Sea of Consciousness Power, Chu Lingguang discovered that the Iron-Armored Bull was releasing saw-toothed wave fragments. When these fragments collided with the diamond-shaped fragments from his own Sea of Consciousness, no sparks appeared.
It was as though they could pass right through his Spiritual Sense Fluctuation.
Chu Lingguang found this odd.
He instantly formed a defensive barrier with his Sea of Consciousness Power. The diamond-shaped waves created an invisible wall, blocking all of the saw-toothed fluctuations.
He was astonished.
The special consciousness fluctuations released by the Iron-Armored Bull required his Sea of Consciousness Power to be concentrated together to form an effective defense. Otherwise, they would pass straight through.
"WHOOSH!"
Seeing the Iron-Armored Bull enter a ten-meter range, Chu Lingguang swept his Long Spear, stirring up the Wind and Wave Power and sending the charging bull flying.
"BOOM!"
The Iron-Armored Bull crashed heavily onto the grass. With its tough hide, it rolled once and got back to its feet, but by then, Chu Lingguang had already left it far behind, putting two or three hundred meters between them.
"MOO!"
That Iron-Armored Bull didn’t give up. Instead, it signaled its companions, urging the others nearby to intercept Chu Lingguang as it continued to charge after him.
And so, Chu Lingguang’s Long Spear sent one charging Iron-Armored Bull after another flying from his path.
Slowly, the number of Iron-Armored Bulls charging from all four directions—front, back, left, and right—grew. Finally, ten of them were within effective range and simultaneously released their special fluctuations.
The saw-toothed wave fragments formed countless pairs of scissors that surged toward Chu Lingguang.
Chu Lingguang also released a powerful consciousness defense, forming a complete dome of light that fully protected him.
He was surprised to find that the Han Gao Steed seemed able to ignore this special type of power attack. He detected a silky, water-like ripple of energy on its skin. The forces assembled into scissors from the saw-toothed waves simply fell away upon touching the great black steed’s fur.
This was the first time in his cultivation journey that he had witnessed a Demon Beast neutralize the damage from a special Wave Power. However, the water-like energy fluctuation on the Han Gao Steed seemed to be natural, not something it was consciously using.
’If I wore a pelt like that of a Han Gao Steed,’ he wondered, ’could I withstand the Wave Power released by a whole herd of Iron-Armored Bulls?’
"NEIGH!"
The great black steed beneath him jumped in fright.
Its forward momentum faltered for a beat.
"Senior Brother, it’s a misunderstanding! That’s not what I meant."
"Charge!"
Chu Lingguang hurriedly reassured it.
At the same time, the special power fluctuations surging forward like saw teeth collided with the defensive fortress of Chu Lingguang’s Sea of Consciousness.
Just as the teacher had said, Chu Lingguang was just barely able to block the waves released by ten Iron-Armored Bulls.
But more and more Iron-Armored Bulls were closing in. Although Chu Lingguang sent several of them flying, he couldn’t stop their numbers from growing.
Finally, the number of Iron-Armored Bulls releasing their waves simultaneously surpassed ten. It reached eleven, then twelve, thirteen, fourteen, and was still climbing.
