Chapter 66: The Range of Domain
This sudden eagerness to learn from Michael shocked both Leo and Raphael. They knew Michael sucked at fighting, but they also knew he was a god. They never thought a god would willingly bow his head to learn like that.
"Hahaha, a god wants to learn from me? Then later when you become a god, I’ll be a god’s teacher, huh?"
Raphael burst out laughing. He wasn’t happy because he got to act superior to a god, but because of Michael’s current attitude.
At first he’d also thought about how to teach Michael, but he was a bit worried that a god’s pride would make Michael stubborn and not listen.
Of course, he could use violence to solve this. But if he did that, it’d easily crack their relationship.
Leo had also thought about the same issue but didn’t have a better way than Raphael. It could be said that Michael being this proactive made everyone feel way more comfortable.
"Haha, don’t be so formal. We’re teammates... Ah, no, gotta say comrades instead. Comrades helping comrades is just the right thing to do, right?"
As he spoke, Leo helped Michael stand up straight. This gesture made Michael feel like maybe Leo wasn’t all just about fighting.
"Since you said that, now let’s try using domain expansion. I’m also really curious what it’s like to ’see’ without using my eyes."
"Hold on. Describe the effect of domain expansion to me more clearly. I want to understand better so I can observe easier."
Raphael suddenly cut in, interrupting Michael’s action. He didn’t want a situation where he watched and didn’t understand anything.
"Each god’s domain has a different special ability. Other than that, it has the ability to observe without blind spots, even underground, everything inside the domain without needing to use eyes to see.
Of course, it can see through obstacles, but it cannot see through humans’, animals’, or energy monsters’ bodies."
"Not even talking about that special ability, just this observation ability is way too convenient. If you use a domain, wouldn’t you not have to worry about ambushes anymore?"
Throughout today Raphael had come across many shocking things. One thing after another kept dragging on without end. By now he couldn’t even make that wide-eyed expression of utter surprise anymore.
If you had that ability, then every trap and ambush would be clearly in sight. That kind of advantage on the battlefield would be unmatched, being able to gather intel instantly.
"Of course, using it costs energy so you can’t keep it on forever. But the duration you can maintain it while fighting isn’t low either. According to the memories I got, the cost depends on how much detail I want to observe."
Saying this, Michael himself felt pretty confused. Just how big was the difference in detail level?
Maybe like how a 4K quality video takes maybe eight to fifteen times the energy of a similar 240p video. The numbers might not be exact, but Michael figured the cost when using a domain worked in some similar way.
"I get the general idea. But how big is the range? An ability like this, logically speaking, can’t have too large a range."
Raphael really couldn’t imagine what it would look like if a god could just stand still and see every secret across a continent. Even just seeing a whole kingdom... no, just one city would already be terrifying.
"Um... actually there are two different types of domain. And switching between the two puts a huge burden on the body, so we shouldn’t change constantly but should use one type.
We must rest for a while, then switch to the other if needed. But if you’re using one type, turning domain on and off repeatedly isn’t a big problem."
The memories in his head right now were in text form, so even after reading them he didn’t really understand what this meant. It’d still be better to test it out practically.
"Two types of what?"
This way of putting it made Raphael really confused. If there were two completely different states, wouldn’t that be like having two techniques?
"Mobile domain and immobile domain. The meaning is no different from their names, and the special effects are similar.
The range of the immobile domain is ten times that of the mobile domain. The obvious downside is that it’s fixed in place, so it’s hard to adapt flexibly to battlefield situations.
Also, the energy cost is way higher than in the mobile domain. As for the mobile domain, it’s based on my current position, so both convenience and energy efficiency are higher."
Other than nodding, Raphael didn’t know what else to say. An ability that covers an area wasn’t something he’d never seen before.
Glacior and Ignivar could also be considered examples of this situation. If the two types Michael mentioned meant this, then the most important issue was the coverage range of the domain.
"What’s the range?"
"Um... give me a sec..."
Michael was about to answer right away, but there were so many numbers in his head that he was afraid of messing up and had to read carefully.
"Leo probably knows this too, but Raphael doesn’t, so let me write it down. I’m scared of saying it wrong since there are too many numbers. The unit I’m using is meters. You guys know that, right?"
"Huh? You think we’re kids or something that we wouldn’t know?"
Both Raphael and Leo said in unison with confused looks. But right after, they remembered that each person’s world wasn’t the same, so the question made sense.
Since everyone understood, Michael just went ahead and wrote. It’s not really that long, but because of all the numbers, saying it out is easy to mess up.
Mobile domain range by level, measured by radius with the body as center:
Level 0: 50 meters
Level 10: 100 meters
Level 20: 200 meters
Level 30: 400 meters
Level 40: 800 meters
Level 50: 1600 meters
Level 60: 3200 meters
Level 70: 6400 meters
Level 80: 12800 meters
Level 90: 25600 meters
God level: 100000 meters
