Chapter 58: Ready to Test New Abilities
No comparison, no jealousy... But without comparison, how can you feel better than others? As long as you keep that competitive spirit to add some ’flavor’ to life, everything’s fine.
The more Michael listened, the more he felt that Cook God comparing himself to Eat God was just a stingy piece of trash.
"Damn it, why did I have to run into that crazy cheapskate?"
He cursed in frustration. From Leo’s words, he understood that Eat God was so generous that he told Leo if he finished one whole dragon, he’d bring another one.
"Ha ha ha, no need to look so down. I have to eat raw meat because Eat God doesn’t know how to cook. Eat God even said a god he knows figured out how to cook dragon meat to make it super delicious. That’s gotta be Cook God, right?"
Leo saw Michael looking down and said something a bit more positive to cheer him up. He was also kinda curious whether that amazing flavor could actually get even better.
"Oh, really?"
Somehow, Michael’s face suddenly brightened. A slight curve tugged at the corner of his mouth, carrying a hint of smugness.
So what if Leo could eat a lot? A ’top-tier’ person eats for the peak flavor, not for the massive quantity.
Thinking like that, Michael felt that even if Cook God was messing with him on purpose, it wasn’t to the point of being totally hateful.
But he still had to curse him out. That damn number-one-chef mindset was seriously unlike anyone else’s.
"Of course it’s true. I also don’t get why those two gods didn’t introduce themselves with their real names. One’s Cook, one’s Eat... That’s clearly a matching pair of jokes. What does Cook God look like?"
Leo nodded, confirming he definitely remembered right. The moment he met Eat God, he already felt something was off.
"Looks like my transformed form. His true body is a six-armed giant with an extremely ferocious face. He looks more like a demon than a god, but his personality isn’t the hard-to-talk-to kind either."
Michael’s feelings about Cook God were pretty mixed. The way Cook God talked to him was really annoying, but he wasn’t as vicious as his appearance suggested. Or maybe it’s because he was already dead that he ended up like that.
"Eat God is probably similar to my transformed form, too. He’s a giant panda as big as a hill and seems to really like martial arts. I don’t get what martial art he practices, but it’s very practical, not some flashy move bullshit."
Remembering when Eat God fought that dragon one-on-one, Leo could clearly see he was aiming for weak points.
From the outside, the dragon’s injuries didn’t look severe, but the fact that it fell from the sky in a daze explained his ability well enough.
But Leo did know that kind of martial art. He was a master of practical combat martial arts and also a general with extremely rich combat experience.
If you ignored all the weird abilities in this world, he was confident that in a one-on-one fight, at least in terms of pure martial arts, he was second to none.
Raphael listened to them talk, understanding some things and not others. But at least right now he was sure both of them had the talent to become gods.
"You two show me your abilities. I want to see what kind of talent it takes to be worthy of becoming a god."
Even though he was the one who’d reached level ninety the fastest on the continent right now, he knew he could never become a god in this life. The limit of talent wasn’t something perseverance could make up for.
’System, how big is the gap between Raphael’s talent and mine?’
Michael knew Raphael’s talent was unquestionable across the whole continent. That’s why he wanted the system to help him make a clearer comparison.
[Considering your timeline, the last time I clearly explained talents was less than twenty-four hours ago. And now you forgot already? Is your brain actually a goldfish brain?]
???
Was this a joke? Not only did he not get an answer to his question, Michael got roasted by the system for having a bad memory.
’Hey, I remember. I remember the limit for nine-star talent is nine exp per day and god-tier talent is ten exp per day. With such a small gap, why can’t someone like Raphael ever become a god no matter how hard he tries?’
[Are you joking with me? The world has its rules. Geniuses always have an unchangeable gap from normal people. It’s not a matter of trying or not. It’s that the limit of a genius far exceeds that of ordinary people.
Geniuses are people born by fate to carry out some kind of responsibility. Normal people aren’t without responsibility to the world. It’s just that their responsibility isn’t hard enough to need genius-level talent to support it.]
Michael didn’t expect to get a lecture from the system about geniuses. Come to think of it, he was also a genius when it came to cultivation.
So by that logic, he really was shouldering a ridiculously over-the-top responsibility.
A guy who in his previous life couldn’t even handle being class president has to help Leo become the king of a whole world full of powerful people like this... Calling this hell difficulty doesn’t seem like enough anymore.
Now he also understood why the exp table or cultivation time for each level didn’t mention god tier. Because gods are chosen by fate, not something you can become just by wanting it.
"Me first or Leo first?"
Michael didn’t feel like there was anything for him to rush anymore. Anyway, now that he held god-tier talent, he didn’t need to be too scared. Maybe he couldn’t succeed in making Leo king, but he would definitely outlive Leo.
Michael’s current goal was to outlive Leo. So the worst-case scenario would only be getting trapped in the magic lamp for ten years.
In just ten years, if he tried hard, he could probably get through it. Because now he had god-tier talent, not like before when he was just a mortal.
