Chapter 245: Chapter 245: Quarrel
A crisp sound rang out, and Jiang Youchen froze.
A look of bewilderment flashed in his eyes. He rarely felt so at a loss.
Jiang Qingli seldom looked at him this way. Her gaze was practically that of a stranger.
He bent down to meet her gaze, his voice hoarse. "I’m sorry. Are you hurt? Let me see..."
Just as he drew near, Jiang Qingli suddenly reached out and pressed his shoulder.
Caught off guard, Jiang Youchen let out a muffled grunt. He watched as she pulled her hand back, now covered in blood.
"What is this?" Jiang Qingli asked.
She looked like a teacher on the verge of an outburst, interrogating a delinquent student.
Jiang Youchen answered honestly, "Blood."
But this straightforward answer did not satisfy Jiang Qingli.
She touched his side, then his back. Both times, her hand came away bloody.
Jiang Qingli stared at him, then pointed to the figures sprawled on the ground. "Why didn’t you let me fight them with you? These people came to kill us."
Before Jiang Youchen could answer, she added coldly, "Do you think I’m not capable? That I can’t handle them?"
Jiang Youchen’s movements stiffened.
Although he knew Jiang Qingli was exceptionally talented, he couldn’t deny it. The moment those men attacked, he still felt that she needed his protection.
Jiang Qingli looked at his body, covered in wounds, while she herself was completely unscathed. A small flame in her heart instantly flared into a blaze.
She couldn’t stop her voice from rising. "Don’t you get it? I’m already grown up! I can stand on my own! I don’t need you to keep protecting me like this!"
She had never felt so angry.
In the face of her accusations, Jiang Youchen could only remain silent.
’It’s like he’s always been this way.’
When he got hurt protecting her as a child, he was the same. He’d stay quiet and just ask if *she* was in pain.
Every time, she would insist that when she grew up, she could protect him.
But he never once listened.
Her heart felt as if an invisible hand had wrung it out before tossing it into a vat of boiling oil.
Guilt and anger intertwined and burned within her, leaving her agitated.
She hated when Jiang Youchen was like this.
"You’re not even my real brother!"
Jiang Qingli practically roared the words, then turned and stalked away.
Each step pounded heavily on the ground, making loud thuds.
Jiang Youchen stood frozen on the spot.
He watched her storm off several dozen meters, only to storm right back. She stood before him, held out her hand, and said stiffly, "Gun!"
Jiang Youchen handed her the gun.
Jiang Qingli took it and put two more shots into each of the men’s heads on the ground.
Sensing Jiang Youchen’s gaze on her, she snapped, "What are you looking at? Doesn’t Marshal Jiang even know to finish the job?"
Her tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Jiang Youchen actually found it so endearing he wanted to laugh.
But now was clearly not the time to be laughing. Jiang Youchen just grunted in acknowledgment.
This was the first time Jiang Qingli had ever been this angry with him. He wasn’t used to it and didn’t know how to respond.
After a moment of silence, Jiang Youchen took out his terminal and tapped the screen a few times.
Jiang Qingli asked, "What are you doing?"
"Telling Chen Mi to come clean up," Jiang Youchen said.
Their car was completely wrecked, sizzling and emitting white smoke on the other side of the road.
Luckily, the car had been on autopilot. Otherwise, the driver would have been decapitated by now.
Jiang Qingli crouched under a tree, resting her chin on her arms. Her eyes darted around, vigilant for anyone else who might suddenly appear.
Of course, her gaze lingered most often on Jiang Youchen.
As if he didn’t notice, Jiang Youchen searched the bodies of the Assassins with one hand.
Jiang Youchen was wearing light-colored casual clothes today with no protection, which made his wounds all the more obvious. The large patches of blood made her eyes ache.
The thought that he was bleeding because he had protected her made it hard for Jiang Qingli to breathe.
In the end, she couldn’t keep her composure.
Jiang Qingli asked stiffly, "Hey, let me heal you."
Jiang Youchen paused, his voice low. "It’s fine. It’s not serious."
Jiang Qingli stared at his face, gritted her teeth, and turned away in a huff, refusing to speak to him anymore.
Chen Mi was fast, appearing before them in less than twenty minutes.
Seeing Jiang Youchen covered in blood, Chen Mi was startled but quickly composed himself. He invited the two of them into the vehicle, leaving a few subordinates behind to handle the cleanup.
Because Jiang Youchen had mentioned his injuries on the call, Chen Mi had brought a medic along.
Just as the doctor raised a hand, Jiang Youchen said, "Check her first."
The doctor looked over at Jiang Qingli.
The girl was immaculate. Aside from a bit of mud on her pant cuffs, she was completely clean and unharmed.
Jiang Qingli shot Jiang Youchen a glare and said coldly, "Ignore me. Treat him."
After speaking, she turned her head away, not sparing them another glance.
Jiang Youchen lowered his eyes and let the doctor examine him, not noticing that Jiang Qingli was watching his reflection in the window.
After finishing the examination, the doctor spoke with some difficulty, "Marshal Jiang, most of your wounds were caused by a Superpower. Our medical treatments can only address a portion of the damage."
Jiang Youchen said, "I know. Just treat me for now."
Seeing his attitude, the doctor frowned. "Marshal, what I mean is... you need a female. Should I request a Spiritual Healing for you?"
As expected, after he said this, an expression of displeasure crossed Jiang Youchen’s face. "Just use medicine."
The doctor was puzzled.
Many males in the military district didn’t have a female master, so there were specialized healing doctors. Their healing levels might not be high, but they were generally compatible with various types of males and could heal about 80% of injuries.
Many of the males in the military district would apply for it.
Only Jiang Youchen. He had never been seen applying for it.
His Superpower was unique, so his chances of getting injured were low. But when he did get hurt, it was almost always fatal.
Yet he never applied for healing, always relying on medication.
Although it never interfered with his work, it was still considered strange.
’Could it be like the rumors say? Does he have an aversion to females?’ the doctor wondered.
Though puzzled, the doctor didn’t dare ask more questions. He first stopped the bleeding and treated the superficial wounds.
By the time the vehicle stopped in front of the Jiang Family’s building, the superficial wounds had already scabbed over.
Jiang Qingli pushed the door open and jumped out first, not looking back even once.
The young man lowered his eyes, his fingertips tightening unconsciously.
"Marshal."
Chen Mi’s voice sounded.
Jiang Youchen came back to his senses, his voice deep. "Speak."
Chen Mi said, "Our people investigated. As expected, those men from just now were from the same group that tried to assassinate us on our way back."
They had been hit by several waves of assassination attempts on their way back from the Lower District.
Jiang Youchen had a good idea who the mastermind was. "Mm," he grunted. "I know. You can go back first."
"Your injuries..." Chen Mi was uncharacteristically talkative. "The wound on your back hasn’t healed yet, and now you have new ones. If someone were to see..."
Before he could finish, Jiang Youchen shot him a look.
Chen Mi knew he had overstepped and immediately shut his mouth.
Jiang Youchen got up and left.
His wounds were still bleeding, but he remained expressionless the entire way, as if he felt no pain at all.
When he reached his bedroom door, however, he was surprised to see a figure sitting on the floor.
Hearing the noise, Jiang Qingli looked up. Her brows furrowed, and her tone was displeased. "You’re so slow."
"I was talking with Chen Mi for a bit," Jiang Youchen said softly.
"What did you talk about? Did you find out who those people were?"
"No." Jiang Youchen paused. "Ah Li, you should go rest for a while. I still have official business to attend to."
He stepped past Jiang Qingli and pushed the door open, entering the room.
As he turned to close the door, she squeezed in, took a deep breath, and said:
"I’ll heal you."
