Chapter 242: Fifty-Three Seconds! Number One on the Leaderboard, Increment Cards and Importance of its rarity
"Yes," Sylvia said. "He is my husband."
"What?" Fernando was baffled upon hearing this. "You have a husband?"
The other players were equally shocked hearing this.
They all looked at Caelus in a new light. To be the husband of Sylvia Reign, what sort of black magic did this guy use?
"Then, good luck out there, miss," Fernando said with some hesitation. "The monster is very strong. It took us a lot of effort to clear it."
"It has +10 Combat Score on it, and that is without counting its buff."
"We were all level 13, but that thing took a significant amount of buffs to defeat. I am afraid having just one other person is not enough."
"Yes. Thank you for your input." Instead of letting Sylvia reply, Caelus answered for her.
"Friend, I do not think I was talking to you," Fernando replied.
"I am her husband. I can naturally talk for her," Caelus replied while shrugging. "Let us go, Sylvia."
Sylvia nodded. Then, they swiftly entered the dome.
Everyone looked ahead silently.
"Someone who is not in a guild. Is he not destined to do worse than you, Fernando? Do not worry," a player spoke up.
"Yep." Others agreed to this.
Fernando also felt the same. Not being in a guild was the same as being weak in his eyes.
He doubted they would even reach the top 500.
---
A Transcendent beast was a tier directly above an Apex beast. This meant one would receive significantly more EXP and levels upon defeating it.
But a Transcendent beast core was also rare. The higher the rarity of a core, the better the increment card that came out of it. A better increment card gave more chances and more points in stats.
If a player took an uncommon increment card, they could not take a higher rarity increment card for the rest of the rank. The maximum a player could use was two in that rarity tier. This meant one could get 10 points from an uncommon increment card in a single rank.
Once a player ascended to a higher rank, this limit would naturally reset. From what he understood, there was a reward for getting into the top 10. He saw it on the leaderboard. Therefore, he was going to go all out.
He had to reach the number one spot!
There was a timer above them counting down to zero. Once the countdown ended, the boss would spawn.
"Sylvia, we will kill it immediately, alright?"
"Yes," Sylvia smiled. The people outside looked down on them, and she did not like it one bit. She now wanted to take the top spot for herself.
The top spot could be held by a single player or a team, so it did not matter.
Soon, the countdown ended, and several red notifications popped up in front of them. Space twisted as a humongous creature descended.
It had two long white ears with a rocky texture at the edges. It had blood-red eyes with runes flickering inside. Its burly body was covered in the same rocky armor that latched onto its ears.
Caelus and Sylvia recognized it. It was a Burly Rabbit.
No. A Transcendent Earth Rabbit.
It punched its fists together as it screeched. The dome stirred as the ground began shaking rapidly.
"Perfect. The Furry Slayer II title will be put to use now," Caelus smiled. The +3 damage could now be fully utilized.
"Sylvia, we are ending it in less than a minute."
They smiled at each other and shot toward the Transcendent Rock Rabbit with immense speed. Shockwaves flared behind them in their wake.
Star King’s Sword Vault was activated immediately.
Sylvia threw one hand into the air as blood began coalescing around her. She activated Sanguine Genesis, and a blood-red spear formed. With a small thrust, it shot toward the rabbit with immense speed.
Swish!
It tore straight into the rock rabbit, piercing its stomach.
Screech!
The rock rabbit shrieked as it used its own hands to pull out the spear. Then, a red aura erupted from it, and an energy beam formed around its body.
"Charge skill?" Caelus identified the move in an instant. It was buffing itself.
He noticed that its injury sealed up quickly. The following moment, the rabbit’s long ears began to spin. It jumped into the air, turned upside down, and plunged into the ground. Its long ears acted as a drill, rushing deep into the earth.
Caelus was baffled. What was it doing?
Boom!
However, as soon as he had that thought, he felt the ground tremor. A pointed drill burst out from beneath his feet.
He was sent flying, but Sylvia acted immediately and caught him. By now, the rabbit was already underground. But before it dug down, it left behind a golden earthly seed. This seed sent out pulses of energy five meters around it.
Caelus and Sylvia, however, remained calm.
"I think we should destroy the entire battlefield."
Time was ticking. Thirty seconds had passed. They had to end it in under a minute, or they would be going back on their word. This rabbit was troublesome because it had a unique set of moves.
There was only one way to handle it.
Caelus summoned Ruyi Jingu Bang. "Get bigger, Ruyi."
As his voice fell, the staff in his hand blinked with white light. It continuously grew bigger until it became as wide as the entire dome.
Floating in the air, he held Sylvia’s waist with his left hand. Using his telekinesis, he pushed the massive staff forward.
BOOM!
The staff crashed into the earth, cracking the ground completely. The rabbit that was drilling below was violently ejected from the earth and flung into the air.
"Now!" Caelus resized Ruyi as it shot back into his hand. He rushed straight toward the rock rabbit and used Origin Sever.
His eyes lit up once more as he stripped away its ability to use skills.
[Ding! The target is too powerful. The effect will last 10 seconds.]
Caelus smiled. Ten seconds? That was more than enough!
Sylvia weaved her hands. Sanguine Genesis formed fine blood threads in an instant, shooting toward the rock rabbit. They tightly locked the beast in place, using the dome’s walls as a foundation to keep it suspended in the air.
Just as quickly, Sylvia forged more weapons. Blood washed over the sky as spears formed and shot toward the beast with immense speed.
Caelus activated Star King’s Sword Vault as well. Golden circles rippled in the sky as star swords plunged toward it like rain.
Puchi! Puchi! Puchi!
Its defenses were completely shattered, and blood oozed out of its wounds. But it still was not dead.
Seeing this, Caelus shot forward, punching it with all his might.
Bang!
His fist tore into the already open wound and completely shredded the rabbit’s body. Flesh and blood erupted everywhere the following instant.
---------
Outside, everyone waited in boredom.
"Now we have to wait a few more minutes until we can attempt it. Sigh. This is annoying."
"Hey, on the other hand, them entering first gives us more time to prepare mentally."
"I hope nothing happens to Sylvia Reign. If someone like her dies, I would not want to live in this world anymore."
By now, more players had gathered, waiting for their turn.
"Should we leave, Fernando?" Jane, Fernando’s wife, asked.
"No, let us wait," he said. "I want to see if they will beat it or not."
He knew they would take a lot of time, but it was just a few minutes. He could spare that.
Just then, the ancient ruin shook.
"This?" All the players had a change in their expressions upon seeing this.
Then, a notification rang out.
[Ding! Sylvia Reign and Caelus Kross have successfully defeated a Transcendent Rock Rabbit in record time.]
[Time taken: 53 seconds.]
The leaderboard updated, and two names appeared at the number one spot.
Caelus and Sylvia.
"WHAT?!" Fernando’s eyes widened in disbelief.
[Ding! You’ve successfully eliminated a Transcendent Rock Rabbit.]
[You’ve obtained +2 Levels.]
[You’ve obtained 50% Origin Power.]
[Level: 6 -> 8 (116/1,600)]
[Ding! You’ve obtained an achievement.]
[You will receive rewards for clearing the ancient ruin in record time.]
