Chapter 228: Transcendent - Star Sword Vault! Furry Slayer I, Importance of Monster Core
[Achievement Unlocked]
[You are the first person to successfully eliminate a rare monster in Misty Wood.]
[You’ve obtained 10 Reputation Points.]
[You’ve obtained the title: Furry Slayer I.]
[Furry Slayer I: When fighting a furry beast like a rabbit or a ferocious furry beast, you deal +1 damage.]
"Oh?" Caelus was surprised.
This was his first title in this world, and it could be useful. His status window also updated, now showing his achievement counts and reputation points.
[Achievements: 1]
[Reputation Points: 10]
Achievements were a building block of this world. They gave unexpected rewards and praise from the crowd.
For example, having an achievement was always a plus when entering a guild or joining an organization. They acted as a record of your merits within the domain. More merits meant more opportunities.
He was off to a great start. But his Origin Credits were still at 100.
"Chad... I need origin credits," Caelus said speechlessly. "At this rate, I won’t even be able to afford a sandwich."
"We can arrange something, Caelus," Chad said with a determined expression. "Gather all the monster cores here. They can be sold in the market to others."
"Oh, is that so?" Caelus nodded.
Caelus, however, did not gather the monster cores right away. He first wanted to extract!
As for the skill or talent extraction, he was not going to use it. He had his skills: Origin Sever, Temporal Regression, Lightning Vow, Golden Light Palm, and Telepathy. He did need an offensive skill, but the burly rabbits clearly did not have a good one. Hence, he was not going to bother.
Besides, he had Chaos Erosion. It didn’t activate just now because he couldn’t make a cut on the rare monster. If he had, then this fight would have been easier. But he did not have the means to make cuts on it.
His endless extraction aside, Origin Sever was his currently equipped skills. But Caelus had a better plan. For now, Temporal Regression was not necessary. He turned to his Star King talent. He could get a skill from it, he just hadn’t bothered until now.
He generated a skill from it.
[Ding! You’ve obtained the Star Sword Vault.]
[Star King’s Sword Vault (Transcendent, 1-Star): With a snap of your finger, summon sword portals that drop a barrage of swords on the enemy.]
The explanation was simple and precise. Snap fingers, summon swords. And swords could cut. More importantly, this was an AoE skill. This was useful. This was what he wanted!
However, the cost was significant.
[Cost: 25]
In this world, there was no affinity, surprisingly.
Everyone was born with an S-Rank Affinity. That was what he understood after observing the physiology of Chad and the others. Perhaps the S-Rank Affinity was a necessary step to break free from the crown-rank. If he had an A-Rank Affinity, then perhaps he would have lost his life there.
But the point was, in this world, the mana cost increased with skill rarity.
Unlike the Abyss, you do not get an increment in HP, MP, and other stats with a rank up. These stat increases were something one had to earn by themselves.
That was where monster cores came in. They were important to a player because they could help increase stats. If someone was rich, they effectively had more HP and MP. Of course, there was naturally a limit to how far a stat could go at a specific level. This was a reasonable and logical limit set by the domain.
Caelus shrugged. He had the Star King talent, and he would make do with it. The full moon was soon. Maybe he would be able to utilize it to his advantage.
He also needed to find the Chaos Awakening.
He had his priorities straight: find Sylvia, make money to find Sylvia, get stronger to find Sylvia, get his Star King talent to start working, get a chaos stone, and awaken. Most importantly, he needed to develop himself to prepare against the Ender.
Now that he was in the real world, he would encounter an Ender at any time. He had a duty to fulfill as the balancer of the Enders. He planned on taking it seriously.
He then used extraction one by one on every single burly rabbit.
[You’ve gathered the essence of several burly rabbits.]
[Combat Score: 13.6 -> 14.9]
The most he got was from the rare monster, which amounted to 0.6. He would take it. His luck was good today, and he was satisfied with the result. He came here with 6, and now he had close to 15.
He decided to level up a bit more.
"Star Sword Vault." Caelus was like the wind as he shot into a group of rabbits with a snap of his figner.
Behind him, golden light rippled like a disruption on the surface of water.
SNAP! BOOM!
The air distorted as glowing starlight swords erupted from the ripples. They shot toward the rabbits like a barrage. By the time he went past them, all the rabbits were nailed to the ground. Blood oozed out, and their bodies were still twitching.
[Ding! You’ve successfully eliminated a Level 5 Common Burly Rabbit.]
[You’ve obtained +15 EXP.]
[You’ve obtained 4% Origin Power.]
[Origin Power: 100%]
[You can extract your powers into the real world.]
Chad, who was on the side, was horrified seeing this sight.
"Is this also part of your talent, Caelus?"
"You could say that," Caelus replied as a golden light erupted from him.
He finally reached Level 5.
He was Level 3 after the battle with the rare burly rabbit, and now he was Level 5.
[Combat Score: 14.9 -> 20.9 (+3)]
Now he had the combat score a Level 10 would have while only being Level 5. Most importantly, he had only been here for five hours.
He didn’t get any essence from the rabbits he killed.
But that was okay. He could find more monsters!
The Origin Expanse was huge. Misty Wood was just the beginning.
There was still a lot to explore in the forest.
Speaking of which, his Origin Power reached 100%, meaning he could take his powers back to the real world.
Not only that, the EXP he got lessened as well. It was just 15 EXP, even when killing monsters of a higher level. That was the rule of the domain.
But that was fine. Misty Wood had other fierce beasts besides just burly rabbits. He just needed to go beyond the current level. Level 6 monsters and onward were quite different from the burly rabbits.
He gathered all the monster cores. With this, he had at least 118 monster cores. He and Chad went back to find a portal to the Region Lord’s territory.
The Origin Expanse and the Region Lord’s territory were separate. The only way to go back was through a portal. The portals spawned randomly in the areas with the weakest monsters.
They soon found one and returned to the town.
The town was lively with hundreds of players talking amongst themselves. They had retired since the domain would close shortly.
"Man, it was tiring out there. I wanted to get more levels, but fighting packs without an AoE skill is hard."
"I wish I could find someone with an AoE skill soon."
"Only our town leader, David Wilson, has an AoE skill."
"I have an AoE skill, but it’s on cooldown, so I can’t equip it right now."
"You are dumb."
"You guys saw the server wide announcement right? Someone killed a rare monster in the misty woods today. That guy is amazing."
"He must’ve gotten an Achievement."
"Yeah, I’m jealous. Achievements give unexpected rewards. I also wanted one for myself. It is said that you can even get stats from achievements."
As the chatter continued everywhere, Caelus went to the market. He also wanted to check out his cabin, but he believed it could wait. He and Chad swiftly went into the green portal that led to the market.
