Chapter 1316: Chapter 1355: Listening to Her Tell a Story
"Did the drink you just had make you feel unwell?" Mabel Quinn asked again.
Kyle Kinston remained silent, but this silence only confirmed her suspicion. She remembered that he used to have some stomach issues, and it was probably the drink upsetting his stomach that was making him uncomfortable.
"You should sit in the living room for a bit. I’ll make you a soothing drink for your stomach," Mabel said. While Kyle was still in a daze, she reached out and took his arm, leading him back to the living room.
He followed her steps in a daze until they returned to the living room, where he saw the little one still playing with the newly made wind chime. Kyle suddenly whispered, "Don’t let Ivy know."
He didn’t want his daughter to know that his discomfort was due to the drink.
Mabel turned and glanced thoughtfully at Kyle, then replied in a low voice, "I understand."
Mabel had Kyle sit on the sofa, while Katherine Quinn was curious about why her father had returned. Mabel explained, "Daddy got tired making the wind chime for Ivy, so Mommy let him rest for a bit before going back. Alright, Ivy, it’s time to take a bath and go to bed."
The little one immediately expressed her concern for her dad, asking Kyle to have a good rest. Meanwhile, Mabel made Kyle a stomach-soothing drink. "It’s still hot; wait a bit until it cools down before drinking."
"Okay." He responded with a faint smile, but his face remained pale.
She pressed her lips together, eventually said nothing more, and took her daughter to the bathroom for her bath.
Kyle looked at the bathroom door, glowing with light, and picked up the cup that was still steaming, sipping the warm liquid slowly. Maybe this was a blessing in disguise? If he hadn’t felt uncomfortable, she probably wouldn’t have kept him here like this.
By the time Kyle finished the drink, Mabel returned with their bathed daughter.
The little one enthusiastically ran over to Kyle, giving him a hug before heading to her room, while Mabel, as usual, read her a story before bed.
The bedroom door wasn’t closed, so as Mabel told stories to her daughter, Kyle in the living room could hear everything as well.
He half-closed his eyes, listening to her tell the story of the little piggy and pig mom, hearing her imitate the voices of the story’s characters with different tones, and listened to the occasional innocent questions from the little one.
He remembered that she once told him if she ever became a mother, no matter what, since she decided to have a child, she would treat the child well.
Indeed, she was a good mother, and Ivy’s childhood was definitely different from his.
Mabel... and his mother were not the same kind of person. But why did it take him until now to truly understand this fact?
If, in his childhood, there had been someone willing to tell him stories like this, he would have been very happy... very happy indeed...
...
After finally coaxing her daughter to sleep, Mabel returned to the living room, only to see Kyle leaning against the sofa, his eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
She instinctively went up to wake him, but hesitated as the words formed in her throat. Forget it; last time, when she fell asleep, he carried her back and stayed for several hours. So this time... if he’s asleep, let him sleep. Whenever he wakes up, he can go back then.
