Chapter 142: Jade Hairpin!
As soon as Chen Xuan stepped into the building with Chi Yao, rows of glass display cases and hundreds of smaller private booths entered his sight.
He was slightly surprised.
This place... was far too familiar.
At first, Chen Xuan had thought that the name and similar exterior were merely a coincidence. But now that he had seen the interior as well, he knew that couldn’t be the case.
This Myriad Treasures Pavilion was indeed connected to the one in the Tianxuan Domain.
If he had to describe it, he would say that the two were practically identical.
The realization filled Chen Xuan with curiosity.
After all, he was technically an Elder of the Myriad Treasures Pavilion.
Although he had only received that position because of a certain incident, he was still one of its members.
’I’ve heard the Pavilion Master mention before that the Myriad Treasures Pavilion’s influence isn’t limited to the Tianxuan Domain and the surrounding regions, but extends across the entire world.’
In the past, Chen Xuan had simply scoffed at that statement.
But now, he began to suspect there was at least some truth to it.
The Nine Origins Seas lay extremely far from the Tianxuan Domain. If the Myriad Treasures Pavilion had truly extended its reach even to this place, then perhaps there really were very few places it couldn’t touch.
Although all sorts of thoughts passed through his mind, and he had suddenly discovered a connection between two organizations that should have had nothing to do with one another, Chen Xuan did not immediately reveal his identity as an Elder.
Instead, he turned to look at Chi Yao, waiting to see what she would do next.
His disciple did not disappoint him.
Chi Yao only briefly swept her gaze over the many cultivators inside the building before her attention shifted elsewhere.
More precisely, it landed on a display case near the back of the pavilion.
At first, she seemed hesitant to speak.
But perhaps recalling the help Chen Xuan had given her during this period, as well as the care he had shown her—though she felt he didn’t need to go so far—Chi Yao eventually stepped closer and transmitted her voice through divine sense.
"Master, I can sense that there’s a treasure here that’s related to one of my possessions."
As though afraid he would dismiss her words, Chi Yao quietly took out a jade hairpin from her spatial ring.
The object looked ordinary at first glance.
Yet the moment her fingers brushed over it, a faint glow shimmered across its surface.
"I obtained this on Starlink Island before, simply because I thought it looked beautiful. But the moment we came near this place, the hairpin reacted."
Her meaning was obvious.
Some treasure within the Myriad Treasures Pavilion resonated with the hairpin in her hand and caused a reaction.
Of course, Chen Xuan didn’t fully believe that explanation.
He had a vague feeling that Chi Yao likely already knew what this treasure was.
He refused to believe that the reborn Heaven-Swallowing Empress had bought a hairpin merely because it looked pretty.
Still, he said nothing.
He simply nodded to show he understood, then motioned for her to follow the connection.
The two of them walked deeper into the building.
Before long, they arrived near the back and stopped in front of a glass display case.
Inside it lay a hairpin that looked almost identical to the one in Chi Yao’s hand.
This was true both in appearance and the antique-like aura they naturally emanated.
Just as Chen Xuan was about to speak, his expression shifted slightly.
He turned around and saw a clerk approaching them.
"Greetings, honored customers. Are you interested in the items within this display case?"
The female clerk spoke politely, maintaining a warm and professional smile on her face.
Her gaze briefly swept over the display before returning to Chen Xuan and Chi Yao.
"The two of you have sharp eyes. This treasure was obtained several years ago by Master Tieyu. It is said that he found it in the depths of the sea."
"After our pavilion’s appraiser examined it, he concluded that it likely contains some hidden secret. Unfortunately, no one has managed to uncover its mysteries so far."
The explanation sounded rather similar to what the previous shopkeeper had once told Chi Yao.
The only difference was that, as expected from a reputable pavilion, this clerk did not make any exaggerated or outlandish claims.
Even so, the mention of someone with the title "Master" was already enough to draw attention.
Although Chen Xuan had never heard of this so-called Master Tieyu, a title like that was not something an ordinary cultivator could claim.
At the very least, one had to be at the Peak of Core Formation to earn such respect.
For most cultivators, that alone would be enough to make the hairpin seem valuable.
If Chen Xuan had to explain why the item was still sitting here unsold, it was probably because it simply looked too ordinary.
Aside from being somewhat elegant, there was nothing remarkable about its appearance.
Some female cultivators might be tempted to buy it as an ornament. But the moment they saw the price tag of several hundred Spirit Stones, most of them would immediately back off.
At least, that would have been Chen Xuan’s reaction if he had known nothing about the hairpin’s unusual nature.
Just as the clerk seemed about to explain the price, Chen Xuan casually waved his hand.
"Alright, I’ll take it."
Then, without giving her time to react, he continued.
"I’d also like to purchase a few other items. Do you happen to have any pill recipes that use beast essence as an ingredient?"
"And in addition..."
Chen Xuan began listing item after item in a calm tone.
The more he spoke, the brighter the female clerk’s eyes became.
She immediately realized she had stumbled upon a wealthy customer.
Thinking of the commission she might earn from this sale, her smile became even sweeter.
Only after Chen Xuan finished did she clasp her hands and speak respectfully.
"Customer, this is not the right place to discuss such matters. Why don’t you follow me upstairs?"
