Chapter 137: Misty Lotus Island! Island Owner!

The Star Archipelago was made up of countless islands, some small and some vast. Some lay near the epicenter of the sea beasts’ riot—such as Starlink Island—while others were so distant that news of the upheaval had yet to reach them.

For the most part, however, the effects of the riot were beginning to spread throughout the archipelago.

Misty Lotus Island was no exception.

Along its shores, cultivators could be seen battling the invading sea beasts.

Although the situation was far better than on Starlink Island and the defenders were still capable of holding the beasts at bay, casualties were inevitable.

As soon as Chen Xuan and Chu Yao arrived, this was the sight that greeted them. The zombie that had carried them here was nowhere to be seen.

Naturally, Chen Xuan could not allow it to appear before others. Anticipating their arrival at a populated island, he had long since stored it within the Death-Binding Ring and traveled the remaining distance himself.

Even so, their arrival still drew some unwanted attention.

Just as they were about to descend, a streak of light shot across the horizon.

One moment, it was a distant speck; the next, it stood directly before them.

Its true identity was revealed.

The figure was a middle-aged man with a scar running across his face.

Unlike most senior cultivators, who favored flowing robes, he wore a suit of armor.

His cultivation had reached the Peak Core Formation Realm. Even within the more prosperous Nine Origins Seas, he could be considered an expert.

"Stop!"

A powerful aura burst from his body as he shouted.

"State your identities! The island is currently under lockdown. Unrelated cultivators are forbidden from entering!"

"This applies even if you’ve escaped from one of the surrounding islands!"

Clearly, the man had mistaken Chen Xuan and Chu Yao for refugees fleeing the sea beasts’ rampage.

Just as Chen Xuan opened his mouth to deliver the explanation he had prepared beforehand, his eyes suddenly narrowed.

He shifted his attention away from the middle-aged man and looked toward the space behind him.

The man’s brows furrowed at the sight. His divine sense spread outward, and he seemed ready to strike at the slightest sign of resistance.

Yet when he followed Chen Xuan’s gaze, his expression changed dramatically.

"Island Owner!"

He cupped his fists and called out, admiration filling his eyes.

The newcomer, an ordinary-looking young man, merely smiled and waved his hand.

"Alright, Little Yi. There’s no need to be so formal."

Seeing the middle-aged "Little Yi" remained standing rigidly in place, the young man could only shake his head.

His gaze then fell upon Chen Xuan, carefully sizing him up.

The young man let out a breath.

"Fellow Daoist, I apologize for my subordinate’s behavior. Given the island’s current circumstances, I ordered that no outsiders be allowed entry."

The young man breathed out.

"I never expected a cultivator of your realm to appear. Please forgive the misunderstanding."

As he spoke, he turned to Little Yi.

"You may return to your duties. I’ll personally receive this Fellow Daoist."

Only then did he look back at Chen Xuan.

"Fellow Daoist, why don’t you accompany me to the city below? While the situation hasn’t deteriorated to that extent yet, the presence of cultivators like us may attract the attention of some particularly powerful sea beasts."

Hearing these words, Chen Xuan fell silent for a few moments. After exchanging a glance with Chu Yao, he nodded.

"Lead the way."

——

Misty Lotus Island was several times larger than Starlink Island. Even so, traveling from its outer edge to the center—where the Island Owner’s palace stood—required only a few breaths for cultivators of their level.

The moment they stepped inside, the young man let out a sigh.

"To be honest, I’m surprised that Fellow Daoist has arrived at a time like this. I don’t claim to know everything, but I’m confident that I’m acquainted with most Nascent Soul cultivators in the Star Archipelago."

"However, I don’t recognize you. Could it be that you’re from another island region?"

His tone was casual, as though he were merely satisfying his curiosity. Yet when the words reached Chen Xuan’s ears, they seemed to carry a deeper implication.

Chen Xuan wasn’t surprised that the man had seen through his cultivation.

Following his usual practice of concealing his strength while making full use of his advantages, he was currently suppressing his aura to the Early Nascent Soul Realm.

Ordinary cultivators would be unable to detect it, but those at the same level naturally could. That was precisely his intention.

Chen Xuan was not a Destined Protagonist like Xiao Huo, doomed to be underestimated and humiliated wherever he went. While he habitually hid his strength, he only did so as long as it did not interfere with his interests.

Although he wouldn’t reveal his entire power, he wouldn’t pretend to be a weakling either.

Countless thoughts flashed through his mind, yet only an instant passed in reality.

Chen Xuan nodded, paused briefly, then suddenly shook his head.

"It’s only natural that the Island Owner doesn’t recognize me. However, it’s not because I’m from outside the Star Archipelago."

"Rather, my disciple and I have remained in seclusion for the past several years. Only a few days ago, after I successfully broke through, did we emerge."

"Unfortunately, while I was thinking of meeting my acquaintances and celebrating, a sea of bloodthirsty beasts greeted me instead."

The young man nodded as though he accepted the explanation.

Indeed, Chen Xuan’s reasoning was sound. The Star Archipelago contained countless cultivators. While the man was familiar with Nascent Soul experts due to his status, it was impossible for him to know every Core Formation cultivator.

If Chen Xuan had only recently advanced, his sudden appearance would not be unusual.

Still, it was impossible to know whether the man really believed this or simply went along with Chen Xuan’s words.

Regardless, with a warm smile on his face, he guided Chen Xuan deeper into the Island Owner’s palace.
