Chapter 285: Chapter 283: Isn’t Little White a Pet?
Xu Jiali heard the sound and immediately stood up.
"Sister Yingying, Little White."
Xu Jiali quickly walked over and scooped Little White into her arms, her face beaming with delight.
"Sister Yingying, this little monk... have they not found his family?"
"He’ll be staying with me for now."
Xu Jiali looked at Kong Jian. The adorable little monk was now looking at her with some apprehension.
"Don’t be scared. I’m not a bad person, you know."
Xu Jiali quickly added.
Kong Jian still didn’t say anything.
"Did he change into new clothes?" Song Jiayan asked, looking at Kong Jian.
Kong Jian took two steps toward Wen Ying and pressed close against her leg, seeming a little scared.
Seeing how shy the little monk was with strangers, the two of them didn’t press the subject of him any further.
"Sister Yingying, Xie Fu Yao is gone," Xu Jiali immediately told Wen Ying.
Wen Ying was a little surprised. ’He left that quickly?’
’I didn’t even get a chance to see him off.’
Before Wen Ying could ask, Xu Jiali proactively recounted what had happened.
Hearing about Xie Fu Yao’s self-destructive behavior, Wen Ying was a bit speechless.
’With an IQ like that, does he really think he can make it in this industry?’
"Sister Yingying, all the annoying people are gone. I wonder who the new guests will be. Do you think more people will leave our show? Xu Yiran should be here soon, right? I wonder who the other two are and if they’ll be as much of a pain."
As Xu Jiali said this, she looked at Zhao Qi.
"Why are you looking at me? How would I know if they’ll be a pain or not? The person who called earlier was indeed an acquaintance, but I don’t know the people they recommended!"
Xu Jiali burst out laughing. "Why are you in such a hurry to distance yourself from it? It just makes it look like you’re trying to hide something. Don’t tell me one of the new people is your childhood sweetheart or your sworn enemy, is it?"
Zhao Qi immediately looked at Xu Jiali with a dead-serious expression, his tone solemn. "Absolutely not! I don’t know them!"
’Are you kidding me? If I admitted it, wouldn’t I be exposing myself?’
’I don’t know them. I absolutely don’t know them. Even when they get here, I still won’t know them!’
Zhao Qi had to stand firm in his position.
"If you don’t know them, you don’t know them. Why are you so nervous?" Xu Jiali roasted Zhao Qi. "The way you’re acting, it’s like you’re putting up a giant sign that says ’Nothing to see here’!"
"Is that so?" Zhao Qi was a little nervous, trying hard to appear especially calm and composed. ’Did I overdo it?’
’Did I go overboard?’
Zhao Qi probably didn’t realize that the more he acted this way, the more something seemed off, the more suspicious he appeared.
His usual self was not such a dead-serious person.
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. I don’t care who comes, as long as they aren’t like Xie Fu Yao’s group. I couldn’t be bothered."
"You guys chat. I’m going to go find the director."
Wen Ying had something to discuss with the director.
Just as she was about to leave, she felt someone grab her wrist.
Kong Jian looked at Wen Ying with an expression that pleaded to be taken along, his voice low and exceptionally pitiful. "Shihuhu... take me with you..."
"Sister Yingying, why don’t you take him with you? He’s not comfortable with us and won’t talk. I think being with us just makes him upset," Xu Jiali explained proactively. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to play with the little monk; it was that the little monk was rejecting them.
Everyone present could see that the little monk was only close to Wen Ying.
Seeing this, Little White immediately jumped out of Xu Jiali’s arms and hugged Wen Ying’s leg.
It tilted its head back to look at Wen Ying, its emotion-filled eyes seeming to say, "Master, I want to go too."
Wen Ying reached out, picked Little White up, and whispered something in its ear. In the end, Little White voluntarily returned to Xu Jiali’s arms.
Wen Ying took Kong Jian’s hand and went to find the director.
Director Wen, who was busy on the phone, quickly hung up when he saw Wen Ying, a smile on his face. "Those were all calls from people wanting to invest in our show."
After that brief explanation, Director Wen looked at the little monk whose hand Wen Ying was holding.
"This child... will they be able to find his family?"
"I’m afraid not."
"Then what do we do? A child suddenly appears on our show... no matter what, we should report this to the police, right? Doctor Wen, to be honest, the reason I didn’t call the police before was because I saw how much the viewers liked him, so I let him stay with you. But now that our work for the day is done, if he continues to stay, won’t there be trouble?"
Although Kong Jian was small, he could understand what was being said.
When he heard the man say he was going to call the police because of him, his grip on Wen Ying’s hand tightened.
His eyes, brimming with tears, were fixed on Wen Ying. "Shihuhu, don’t go. Don’t leave."
Director Wen was stunned.
’What’s going on?’
’They were only apart for one afternoon. Did something happen between Doctor Wen and this child?’
’What on earth is a Shihuhu?’
’Am I already behind the times at my age?’
He glanced at his own head. There weren’t many gray hairs. ’I should count as a middle-aged man, right?’
’The generation gap... it really is a new one every three years.’
’There must be about ten generation gaps between us.’
Looking into Kong Jian’s eyes, Wen Ying felt a pang in her heart.
But this was an era governed by laws, not one where you could just adopt a child on a whim.
’If I take Kong Jian with me without doing anything, it could be mistaken for human trafficking, couldn’t it?’
"Don’t worry. Liger won’t abandon you."
Hearing Doctor Wen’s reply, Director Wen couldn’t help but speak up. "Doctor Wen, your charisma is just too strong. Even a child this young knows to stick to you. Other than you, he doesn’t seem to talk to anyone else here."
"I suppose you could call it fate," Wen Ying said with a smile.
"Director Wen, I came to find you because there’s something else I need to discuss."
"Doctor Wen, please speak," Director Wen said, his expression turning serious.
"Can we postpone tomorrow’s shoot?"
Director Wen didn’t understand what Doctor Wen meant, but he listened patiently nonetheless.
"I have some things to take care of tomorrow, and besides, it might not be that safe deeper in the woods."
Hearing Wen Ying’s explanation, Director Wen instantly became alert. "Is something going to happen? Doctor Wen, I trust you completely! Whatever you say, goes! So, how many days do we need to halt production?"
"For now, just one day. I need to see for myself before I know for sure."
Director Wen nodded hurriedly. "Okay, I’ll have someone make the arrangements and tell everyone we’re taking tomorrow off. I’ll also notify the fans and viewers on Weibo."
She knew Director Wen had a good attitude towards her, but she hadn’t expected such unconditional trust.
She thought she’d have to do a lot more convincing. She hadn’t expected Director Wen to agree as soon as she brought it up.
"Doctor Wen, are we still safe here then? If not, should I pull the production team back to the other side of the river? We can leave today?"
Seeing Director Wen’s worried expression, Wen Ying offered a few words of reassurance.
They would wait for Wen Ying to return before making any further plans.
If Wen Ying didn’t return, Little White would come back and let him know.
When Director Wen heard the part about Little White coming back to inform him, he was baffled and froze.
"Little White... isn’t that your pet, Doctor Wen?"
