Chapter 284: Chapter 282: Does This Scene Seem Familiar?

When Xu Jiali heard Zhao Qi say that Sister Wen Ying was a perfect fit for a female protagonist from a novel with cheat-like powers, she nodded vigorously.

Zhao Qi had hit the nail on the head. He was absolutely right!

Although Song Jiayan didn’t understand what kind of novels those were, he also nodded when he heard the two words "female protagonist."

Sister Wen Ying was a protagonist by nature. No matter where she stood, she was always the most eye-catching one.

At that moment, Wen Ying wasn’t with them.

Otherwise, if she had heard the three of them praising her so highly, she wouldn’t have known how to react or what to think.

But did Doctor Wen know what kind of world she was truly living in?

Zhao Qi kept sharing his thoughts and feelings about the novels he read, and Xu Jiali shared her own insights from the modern romance novels she enjoyed. Though they were two completely different genres, the two of them surprisingly found common ground.

It’s just as they say, all roads lead to Rome. The ancients were right.

Song Jiayan wasn’t particularly interested in the ensuing conversation, so he stood to the side, contemplating his future.

Although Sister Wen Ying had said she would help him, he knew it was ultimately up to him. He had to put in a hundred times the effort to not disappoint those who supported him. As his thoughts drifted, Song Jiayan began to think about his new song.

At that moment, Wen Ying was with Little White and Kong Jian.

With them were also a few monkeys and a few squirrels.

They were the lead scouts of the monkey troop and the leaders of the squirrel scurry.

They now stood behind Little White, exuding an air of readiness to follow his every command.

Wen Ying frowned as she listened to their chittering and chattering.

’A mist?’

A mist of unknown origin had begun to appear in the depths of the jungle.

Some monkeys had ventured into it before. Out of five, only one returned, and it was heavily injured.

The squirrels chittered nonstop amongst themselves off to the side.

They too had seen the mist. They didn’t know where it came from, why it was here, or if it would continue to devour the jungle.

The squirrels were more cautious. When they encountered something unfamiliar, their first instinct was to be wary, not to enter it.

So, they had only seen the mist a few times, passing by its edge.

They didn’t know the true danger it held.

Wen Ying didn’t know what the mist signified, but she also had a bad feeling about it.

"Master, why don’t I go into the mist and take a look?" Little White offered.

"Da Guo, don’t go."

Kong Jian, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke up to stop Little White.

Little White looked at Kong Jian. "Why can’t I go? If I don’t go, Master will definitely go. I’m so powerful, getting in and out will be no problem. Monkeys, squirrels, don’t you follow me. You aren’t Great Immortals; you don’t have my skills. And you, little bro, don’t you dare look down on the skills of a Great Immortal! Although I don’t know why you managed to grab my tai—AHEM, let’s not talk about that. Anyway, I can definitely come and go as I please!"

Kong Jian looked at Little White with his big, dewy eyes and shook his head.

Seeing that Little White wouldn’t change his mind, Kong Jian reached out and grabbed Wen Ying’s arm. His voice was soft and sweet, laced with worry and a hint of pleading. "Liger... don’t go..."

"Don’t worry, Little White isn’t going. But you have to take me to see the mist. We’ll just take a look from the edge."

Kong Jian relaxed when he saw Wen Ying agree.

But he was still a little worried.

"Little bro, do you know that it’s dangerous in there?"

"Didn’t the monkeys say they lost four of their own after going in? Don’t question Little Kongjian. We’ll go see for ourselves."

Wen Ying came to Kong Jian’s defense.

Even though he was just a child, she could tell that Kong Jian had a mind of his own.

He was clearly unwilling to say more about the mist.

Little White suddenly looked at Wen Ying. "Master, I didn’t translate that time. You could understand them?"

"Liger is amazing!" Little Kongjian blurted out before Wen Ying could even speak.

"Yes, yes, I know Master is amazing, but you’re quite the little suck-up yourself. Looks like I’ll have someone else competing with me for this position from now on. As the big brother, I’ll let it slide!"

Watching their exchange, Wen Ying suddenly found the scene quite harmonious.

Little White was clearly, slowly starting to accept Kong Jian.

Even their bickering was amusing.

Hearing Little White’s words, Kong Jian pouted happily. "Da Guo is the best."

Little White shot him a smug look. "Of course! How else could I be the big brother?"

"Master, can you really communicate with them now?"

"Yes. So from now on, Little White won’t have to work so hard translating. Are you happy?"

As soon as Wen Ying said that, she suddenly remembered that this ability to understand animal language seemed to have a time limit.

’When you get too happy, you tend to forget important things.’

"However, I still need Little White. So, you can keep translating for me from now on."

’I’m so clever,’ Wen Ying thought, pleased with how perfectly she had resolved the awkwardness of what she’d just remembered.

"Okay, Master!"

Little White was overjoyed. For a moment there, his master almost didn’t need him anymore, and that was something that could absolutely not be allowed to happen.

Kong Jian looked at Wen Ying eagerly. "Liger... I can do it too..."

The words had barely left his mouth when Kong Jian felt a chilling glare shoot his way. He immediately corrected himself, "But Kong Jian thinks Da Guo is the most suitable for the job."

Only then was Little White satisfied. He reached out a paw and patted Kong Jian’s shoulder. "You said it perfectly, little squirt! When we go see the mist this time, you have to stand far back. If anything happens, the first one I have to protect is Master."

Kong Jian looked at Little White with his sparkling eyes and nodded.

’That’s how it should be,’ he thought.

’Liger is the first person who should be protected, even if the Liger right now doesn’t seem to recognize me.’

’But that’s okay.’

’I’m here to protect Liger now!’

After another discussion with the lead monkey and squirrel, it was finally decided that only the leader from each group would accompany them.

However, the sky was already dimming toward dusk.

There were too many variables at this time of day, so Wen Ying decided to go the next day instead.

It was always wise to be cautious when dealing with the unknown.

Wen Ying took Little White and Kong Jian to regroup with the production crew. The monkey leader and Squirrel Leader agreed to wait for Wen Ying and Little White at a fixed location the next day.

"Little bro, after we go back, I can’t talk anymore, understand?"

Little White instructed Kong Jian, afraid that after they returned, Kong Jian would keep calling him "big brother."

’If I ignore him, that wouldn’t be very nice to my little bro.’

’But if I respond, what if I scare the humans? I’d just be causing trouble for Master.’

’So I have to prevent that possibility ahead of time.’

Kong Jian nodded. "I know, Da Guo. Da Guo can’t talk."

"The boy is teachable." Little White was very satisfied.

After that, he said no more.

When Wen Ying returned with Kong Jian and Little White, she saw Zhao Qi and Xu Jiali sitting together, chattering happily about something, while Song Jiayan sat alone to the side, seemingly lost in his own world.

"Sister Wen Ying." Song Jiayan immediately stood up when he saw Wen Ying and Kong Jian.
