Chapter 2587: Chapter 60: Awakening
"Knock knock knock——" The sound of knocking echoed.
"Molly, it’s me. Dinner is about to start. Mother asked me to come up and call you..." Yana Lucas’s calm voice came from outside the door.
"I’ll be down right away."
Molly Wellington replied from inside.
She put down the towel in her hand and looked at herself in the mirror. The tears had vanished from her curled eyelashes, and her eyes, which had been slightly red, were now much paler after being washed with cold water.
Only her lips were still somewhat swollen. Her gaze fell on her slightly puffy lips, and without realizing it, she recalled Abraham Redington’s forceful and overwhelming kiss from earlier.
But no, she had to stop thinking about it.
Molly Wellington quickly shook her head, wiped her face again with a damp towel, applied skincare products and lip balm, and then opened the door to go downstairs.
To her surprise, as she opened the door, she saw Yana Lucas leaning against the corridor wall.
Fortunately, the lighting in the corridor was dim enough, preventing anyone from seeing the traces of tears in her eyes clearly.
"Yana, I fell asleep inside just now," Molly Wellington used a lame excuse.
"Oh." Yana Lucas didn’t expose her lie, just nodded with a slight smile. She said, "Molly, later at the dining table, they’ll probably bring up your engagement with Abraham. I guess they’ll arrange the engagement first, and then have you officially marry when you turn 20."
Molly Wellington kept her head down and said nothing.
Yana Lucas raised an eyebrow, "Why aren’t you speaking? In the afternoon, you seemed to have accepted the proposal to get engaged to Andrew."
"..." Molly Wellington bit her lip and looked down.
Yana Lucas continued, "What’s wrong? Don’t you like him, or don’t want to marry Andrew?"
Molly Wellington had felt stuffy inside ever since Yana mentioned the engagement and getting officially married.
Humans really are strange creatures.
Just a few hours ago, she was so excited and happy to hear such things, but now, her heart had become this numb in such a short time.
"Molly, you’re the eldest daughter of the Wellington family. I remember when you were a child, you had a much more fiery temper than now. Being called willful and spoiled wouldn’t have been an exaggeration. Back then, you often bullied the women who got close to your Daddy to the point of tears, and even Charles Taylor was frequently teased by you until he cried out loud.
But since growing up, especially lately, I feel... your former courage seems to have disappeared. If you like someone, you like them; if you don’t, you simply don’t. Whether you want to marry or not is up to you. I believe that as long as you express your thoughts, no one will force you."
Upon hearing Yana Lucas’s words, Molly Wellington felt a surge of something within her.
She had a thought in her mind all along but never dared to voice it.
"Thank you, Yana, I understand now." The gloom in her heart seemed to suddenly disperse.
Yana Lucas’s words awakened Molly Wellington.
Indeed, she wasn’t just the Molly Wellington who once liked Abraham Redington; she was also the Molly Wellington of the Wellington family and the eldest daughter of the family.
She should have her own pride.
...
Soon, dinner began.
When Molly Wellington and Yana Lucas arrived, everyone else was already seated, with two empty seats beside Abraham Redington.
Molly Wellington walked straight over and sat in a seat with one seat between her and Abraham Redington.
Yana Lucas’s long black pupils flickered with a knowing smile as she took the seat between the two.
As for Abraham Redington, his deep blue eyes glanced at Molly Wellington, with an unfathomable darkness in their depths.
After several rounds of drinks, the atmosphere at the dining table became lively.
At this moment, Lily Redington was the first to speak, "Molly did quite well in her exams this time, and she can choose between schools in A City and B City. Molly, have you picked your preferred university yet? If you have, Andrew can move his company near your school, so during the four years of university, you can be with him every day. With him taking care of you, your Daddy and Mother would also be more at ease."
