Chapter 320: The Last Tango Of A Rat

The black car drove slowly through the streets of the Underground. Everything there was narrow and gross, filled with trash and grime. The engine of the car was so quiet you could barely hear it. Inside, the air felt cold and way too clean, almost like it didn’t even belong in a place as dirty as this. The seats were made of soft leather, but to Jinzo, it felt more like he was sitting in a cage.

He was in the back seat, with his hands jammed tight under his own thighs, squeezing hard because he couldn’t stop them from shaking. Sweat was dripping down his face, and he was breathing fast, like he was running out of air.

He was convinced this was the end for him. He figured Victoria had finally figured out that he was the one leaking the Baby-Boom secrets. This time, he felt like a dead man walking, or rather being led to his grave.

Across from him, Hector. Hector looked totally relaxed. He was just staring out the window, looking bored as the gray, depressing streets crawled by. As the car passed, they saw a couple smashing against a dirty wall. The two of them were fucking hard, their bodies slapping together in a messy rhythm under a neon light that kept flickering on and off. It was raw and gross, and Hector just shook his head a little bit.

"Such a mess down here, my friend," Hector said. "There is just no style here. It is just people acting like animals in the dirt. The Upperworld is a completely different story. You have real sunlight hitting glass towers. Green grass that you can actually walk on. People who actually look like they belong somewhere. The air is fresh, and the money just never ends. A talented point guard like you should not be rotting down here like a rat."

Jinzo’s heart was pounding so loud in his chest that he couldn’t even hear Hector. He couldn’t hold it in anymore; the panic just burst out.

"I did not do the leaks!" he shouted, his voice cracking. "It was not me! It was Mac, I swear to God! I have proof, I can show you everything! Please, don’t kill me, I didn’t—"

Hector calmly raised his hand to stop him. He narrowed his eyes, watching Jinzo fall apart. He studied every single drop of sweat and the way Jinzo’s hands were trembling.

Like, man, if you were this freaked out, why did you do it in the first place?

Then, Hector smiled, like a rich guy looking at a stray dog he felt sorry for.

"Relax, my friend," Hector said softly, his voice dropping into a gentle, soothing tone that made Jinzo feel even more uneasy. "The leak is a small problem. I am not even angry about it. Actually... if we look at the bigger picture, you did me a little favor."

Jinzo blinked, his mouth falling open slightly. He stared at Hector, completely confused, his muscles still rigid. He didn’t understand how leaking top-secret information could ever be considered a favor to a man like... In fact, who the fuck was even this dude? Now that he looked more clearly at him, he realized that he had never seen him once.

He thought this sudden kindness was a trick, a cruel joke before Hector ordered his men to throw him out of the moving car.

"A... a favor?" Jinzo stammered, his eyes darting toward the silent men in the front seat. "How is that a favor? I don’t get it."

Hector leaned back a bit, tapping his fingers slowly against the soft leather armrest. He watched the absolute doubt and suspicion flashing across Jinzo’s face.

"Think about it, my friend," Hector explained patiently. "Apex is a massive empire. Sometimes, when an empire gets too big, the people at the top get lazy. They assume the walls are invincible. They forget to check the locks. By breaking into the network and exposing the Baby-Boom deal, you showed me a major leak in my own security. You pointed out a vast conspiracy that my engineers can fix by tomorrow morning. You tested my armor, Jinzo, and you exposed a crack. In the corporate world, knowing where you are vulnerable is worth more than gold."

Jinzo didn’t move. He kept his hands jammed tight under his thighs, squeezing his fingers until they ached. He wanted to believe it, he desperately wanted to think he wasn’t going to die tonight, but the sheer paranoia of the Underground was screaming at him to be careful. Nobody gave away free passes down here. Nobody looked at a rat and called it a helper.

"You’re... you’re just saying that," Jinzo muttered, his voice shaking as he looked down at his own knees. "You’re trying to make me talk. You’re going to use me and then dump my body in a ditch. I know how you guys operate."

Hector didn’t lose his temper. His smile didn’t even change. He just watched Jinzo’s internal struggle with the calm patience of a spider watching a fly slowly tire itself out in a web. He understood exactly how Jinzo’s mind worked, the deep insecurity, the constant fear of being played, the desperate need to feel important.

"If I wanted to dump your body in a ditch, Jinzo, we wouldn’t be having this conversation in a 77 000 credit sedan," Hector said softly, his tone completely reasonable. "I would have let my men handle it in the alley. I don’t waste premium cologne and soft leather on a dead rat. I am telling you the truth because I see value in you. You have a specific set of skills, and you have the guts to take risks. That is why I am planning to reward you, instead of punishing you."

Jinzo stayed quiet for a long moment. He listened to the quiet noise of the engine, the luxurious silence of the cabin wrapping around him like a heavy blanket. Slowly, very slowly, Hector’s words began to sink through his panic. The logic was cold, but it made sense. If Hector wanted him dead, he would already be bleeding out on the concrete. The fact that he was still breathing, still sitting on this expensive leather, meant that maybe, just maybe, this corporate god actually had a use for him. The doubt in his chest didn’t vanish completely, but it began to crack, allowing a tiny, dangerous spark of hope to take root.

"You... you are really not going to kill me?" Jinzo asked again, his voice dropping into a little whisper as he finally relaxed his grip under his thighs just a fraction.

"Of course not," Hector murmured. He leaned forward a bit, making his voice sound more friendly, pulling Jinzo into his personal orbit. "But let us talk about the real problem. I trust you, but I don’t trust your manager. Not after she tried to steal my players. I need eyes inside Blacklist. I need someone who can watch every single move she makes. Right now, I am totally blind to what is happening in there. I need a rat in that room. Someone who hears every plan, every whisper, and every play before it even happens."

Hector paused for a second to let that sink in. He kept his eyes locked on Jinzo.

"And you are perfect for this. People overlook you. You are angry. You just stand there and watch Blaze take everything while you do all the hard, dirty work on the floor. Especially with the girls. Jaz used to be your girlfriend, right?"

Jinzo’s face went dark. He gripped his legs even harder.

"How the hell do you know that?"

"A careful man always checks the ground before he starts building," Hector replied, giving a little shrug. "I know everything about the people I work with. I know how much it burns you to see him taking her."

He leaned in a bit more, not letting his gaze leave Jinzo’s face.

"Here is my offer. If you become my eyes and ears inside Blacklist, I will give you a luxury apartment in the Spires until Victoria falls. I will give you a mountain of cash. And, once we crush them, I will get you a starting spot on a strong Upper League team. You will live like a king up there."

Jinzo was just stunned. His mind was spinning in circles, the silence inside the dark sedan pressing heavily against his ears. He couldn’t answer right away. He needed time, his brain frantically jumping from one dark corner to another.

He saw Jaz. He saw her beautiful face twisted in a look of complete disgust, shouting at him, calling him a pathetic loser in front of the whole squad. Then the image shifted, sharper and cruder, turning into a nightmare that had been keeping him awake for days: Jaz pinned down, her back arched, getting loudly and thoroughly fucked by Nash Blaze right on the locker room benches, groaning and moaning as she completely submitted to the giant.

The memory burned hot in his brain, traumatizing him to the point of seeing it every time he was jerking off. He bit his lower lip hard. It was always the same thing. Everyone in this damned world just used him like a total idiot. Victoria used him to build her team, his girlfriend used him as an excuse to be fucked by Nash, and Nash’s ex had used him to send the leak. They all looked at him and saw a pawn. A beta male. A nobody.

He stared at Hector’s smooth, waiting face. This whole place was just a massive pit of starving rats. If you did not bite first, you got eaten alive. He was tired of being the prey. If they wanted him to be a rat, fine, he would be the nastiest, sharpest rat in the entire ecosystem. He would be a rat that bites so hard they would never forget his name.

Jinzo ground his teeth together as he finally looked Hector straight in the eyes. The fear was completely gone, replaced by a cold, desperate hunger.

"Okay," Jinzo said, his voice dropping into a low, raspy whisper. "I will do it. I will tell you every single thing they do. But... I want another thing in return. I know Apex owns the Baby-Boom, and I know you have enough power to turn them into whatever you want."

Hector smiled, a twisted little thought crossing his mind as he watched the boy’s eyes fill with anger.

"Go on," Hector murmured.

"I want one of them for myself," Jinzo said, his fingers digging into his knees. "I want Aiko Tanaka. I want her delivered to my bed once everything falls apart."

Hector let out a short, amused laugh. He was clearly entertained by how dark and nasty the boy’s ambition had become in a matter of minutes.

"Wicked boy," Hector said, tapping his fingers gently on his knee. "Consider it done, my friend. You give me Victoria’s head, and I will give you your little toy. We have a deal."
