Chapter 157: Chapter 157; The f**k
Aiden’s POV
"What do you mean you couldn’t stop her?" I growled, my voice thick with irritation.
"I don’t know what happened, Alpha," the guard stammered, his body trembling under my gaze. "One minute we were on our way out, and the next minute, a really loud, painful sound hit us. It made our ears bleed." He looked down, completely confused by his own words.
"Yes, Alpha," the second guard added quickly. "We don’t know how she did it, but she took the remedy back from us. We couldn’t fight her."
I let out a harsh scoff. They sounded completely ridiculous right now. "I did not tell you to fight her! I told you to get the antidote from her, but you couldn’t even do that simple task. Get out of my face before I lose my shit."
The two guards bowed quickly and hurried out of the room.
I leaned back against my desk, my anger boiling. Now Lucian would get that antidote and get better. It felt like every single time I thought I was a step ahead, something went wrong. I pushed my hair back with both hands, frustration rolling off me. What the hell do I do now? How do I get another opportunity to get rid of Lucian?
I paced across the floor. Trusting Davon would be a big mistake, but I really had no choice right now. If he could actually help me take down Lucian, then I had to agree to his terms.
He told me to meet him at the pub tonight if I wanted to make a deal. I checked the clock. It was time to go.
As soon as I walked out of the house, I spotted Emily outside, about to get into her car. Her gaze met mine, and she froze for a second.
"I am going for my doctor’s appointment," she said quickly.
I frowned, looking up at the dark sky. "Emily, it is like 8 PM. Why wasn’t the appointment scheduled for earlier today?" I asked, confusion clear in my tone.
"Hmm, yeah," she muttered, shifting her weight nervously. "I mean, it was just the time I was given. You can accompany me if you want to."
I looked closely at her face. I could see the heavy uncertainty in her eyes. She was definitely hiding something, but right now, I really did not care to find out. My mind was on Lucian.
"It’s alright then. You go ahead," I said.
She gave me a tight nod, got into her car, and drove away. I walked over to my own car, climbed inside, and started the engine. I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text to Davon to tell him I was on my way.
I drove straight to the pub through the dark roads. When I pulled up and walked inside, the smell of stale beer and smoke hit me. I scanned the dim room, and my eyes landed on a corner booth.
Davon was there already, waiting for me.
"You know, I knew for a fact that you would come back to me," Davon said. A small, amused smile broke across his face. "You threw me out of your house that day because you were unsure, right?"
"I am not here for small talk," I snapped. I leaned across the table. "How do I get rid of Lucian for good?"
Davon scoffed, his smile growing brighter. "Hmmm... I tried poison, but he survived. So, what else do I try? A trap, maybe. One he cannot get out of, no matter how hard he tries."
"What is this?" I asked. My voice was thick with irritation. "I thought you had a foolproof plan. But I see you really have nothing at all."
"Come on now, Aiden," he said. He sounded completely relaxed and amused. I really did not have time for his games. "I see it won’t be easy to get rid of him. But I am glad you are on my side now."
"I am not on your side," I shot back. "I shouldn’t have come here."
Davon opened his mouth to reply, but his phone suddenly rang in his pocket. He pulled it out and looked at the screen.
"Hmm, I have to go take this," he said, sliding out of the booth. "But I will be right back, and we can continue our talk."
Before I could say a single word, he turned and left the pub.
What the fuck is wrong with him? This whole meeting was a complete waste of time. I grabbed the bottle of whiskey on the table, poured myself a drink, and swallowed it down.
As I set the glass back down, my eyes drifted across the dim room. I noticed someone sitting alone in a booth, completely zoned out.
I blinked and looked closer. Is that Ragnar?
A smirk crept onto my lips as I stood up from my booth. I walked slowly across the dim room and stopped right in front of his table.
"What is the matter? Did you get your heart broken?" I asked.
My voice snapped him out of his deep thoughts. His gaze lifted to meet mine. His eyes were bloodshot and heavy. He was completely drunk. He looked up at me and smiled.
"Aiden, you came for me," he said.
I gave him a disgusted look, but before I could step away, he grabbed my hand. "Come sit beside me," he added. He pulled hard, dragging me down onto the bench next to him.
"What the hell is your problem?" I asked sharply. My voice was full of annoyance, but he just laughed.
"Tell me something," Ragnar said, leaning closer. His breath smelled heavily of alcohol. "Why did you have sex with me that day? I know you were drunk, but why did you do it?"
"Don’t ask me stupid questions," I snapped.
I stood up immediately to leave, but he gripped my arm and yanked me back down. Before I could even react, he lunged forward. He pressed his lips hard against mine. My eyes widened in total shock.
He pulled back just as quickly, his eyes glassy as he stared at my face.
"I love you, Boca," he whispered.
The fuck? Boca?
He leaned in to kiss me again, but this time I clapped my hand over his mouth and shoved him away.
