Chapter 151: Chapter 151; Alina is gone!
Davon’s POV
"You did a good job, Tanjiro," I said, a dark smirk breaking across my lips. I slid the heavy briefcase across the table toward him. "You deserve this."
Tanjiro popped the latches, the golden light of the room reflecting in his eyes as he stared at the contents. "This is a hell of a lot of money," he muttered, running a finger over the crisp edges of the bills.
"Yes, and you will be able to get a lot more from me," I replied, leaning back into my chair, "as long as you stick with me and work diligently."
"Of course, boss," he said, snapping the briefcase shut.
"But there is still one problem." I narrowed my eyes, the warmth instantly draining from my face as irritation laced my tone. "Why didn’t you finish the job? I gave orders to have Lucian killed, but you couldn’t even manage that."
"I almost had him," Tanjiro defended, his jaw tightening. "I had him right where I wanted him before his woman showed up."
I blinked, a wave of confusion hitting me before turning into pure annoyance. "You couldn’t stop one woman?"
"I couldn’t! I don’t even know what the hell happened," he snapped, frustration bleeding into his voice. "One minute she was screaming, and the next... I can’t even remember what happened. It was a blur. But that’s besides the point. I made sure the poison was severe enough. He will never get away this time. He’s useless now anyway—just a rogue who can’t act right."
Tanjiro paused, leaning forward to fix me with a calculating stare. "And as for you... why the hell do you hate him so much? My grudge is understandable—the bastard took away everything from me. I lost my entire livelihood because of him. But what did he ever do to you?"
I let out a harsh, bitter scoff, the anger boiling over in my chest. "What didn’t he do to me? He took my life away from me! He promised me things he could never fulfill. He swore to my face that he would never leave me, but he did. He left me all alone in the dirt. He deserves to pay for that betrayal with his miserable life."
Tanjiro just shrugged, completely unmoved by my outburst. "You are a rogue, Davon. The first thing you should know out here is that no one is coming to save you. Everyone is looking out for themselves. He wasn’t obligated to help you." He picked up the briefcase, giving me a dismissive nod. "But hey, it’s none of my business. Nice doing business with you."
With that, he turned on his heel and walked out, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
A sharp buzz in my pocket broke the silence. I pulled out my phone to see a notification from Boca. He wanted me back at the house immediately.
A slow, victorious smile spread across my face. This is perfect. All I needed to do was play the loyal soldier a little longer to earn their full trust back. Once the poison finally took Lucian out for good, I would step into the vacuum. I would take over the pack, and I would be a far better leader than Lucian ever was. I would do all the brutal things he was too weak to execute.
And as for Alina? I let out a dark chuckle. I would make her my personal sex doll. She clearly knew how to please an Alpha, which was probably why Lucian was so completely messed up over her. But she would learn her place under me, while Emily remained by my side where she belonged. Always.
I climbed into my car, slamming the door, and drove straight back to the compound.
The moment I stepped through the front door, Boca was waiting in the foyer, his arms crossed over his chest. "What the hell took you so long?" he demanded, his eyes boring into mine.
"I—"
"It doesn’t matter. Come with me," Boca cut me off, his voice dropping into a tense, commanding register.
I gave a tight nod and fell into step behind him. As we navigated the dark corridors of the compound, the heavy, hostile glares of the other rogues burned into the side of my face. They still hated me. They still saw me as a traitor. But I didn’t give a single shit about any of them; they were nothing but pawns in a game they didn’t even understand.
Boca suddenly halted in front of a heavy door, and I stopped right behind him. He reached out and flipped a switch. The overhead lights flickered to life, illuminating a sickening, cold room filled with the gruesome trophies of their hunts—severed body parts of the victims they had slaughtered.
Boca turned to face me, his jaw tight. "Davon, Lucian will absolutely hate me for doing this, but I have no other choice. If it wasn’t for you, my sister and Lucian would have been in so much trouble back there. So I need something from you. And if you do this for me, I will personally ensure you are brought back into the fold. You will be one of us again."
A desperate, victorious smile threatened to break across my face. I had to force myself to keep it in check, masking it with sheer compliance. "What is it you want from me? I will do absolutely anything."
"The antidote," Boca breathed, pure desperation bleeding through his tough exterior. "We need the antidote to save Lucian. He doesn’t have much time left to live. I know you still have connections out there. You have influence. You must have an idea of where to get it, or who holds the cure, and—"
"I don’t," I stated plainly, my face going completely blank.
The desperate edge in his eyes faltered.
"I don’t have the cure for him, and I don’t know where to get it," I added, keeping my voice entirely devoid of emotion.
The absolute worst part of this entire situation? I wasn’t even lying to him. I actually didn’t have it. If I did, this would have been my golden ticket to ride straight back into their good graces and secure my position. But my ignorance didn’t change the ultimate outcome—Lucian was going to die regardless, and that was exactly what I wanted.
"I am sorry for disappointing you," I murmured, lowering my gaze before he could say another word.
Before Boca could respond, the heavy metal door burst open. Ragnar sprinted into the room, his chest heaving, his face pale with panic.
"Boca! Alina is gone!" Ragnar yelled.
Boca’s head snapped toward him, his eyes turning wild. "What?!"
