Chapter 147: Chapter 147; Accused!!
Lucian’s POV
My heart was filled with pure joy on hearing Leo call me that. I couldn’t help but smile, a massive grin splitting my face as I looked over at her. "Alina, did you hear that? He called me baba!"
I eagerly take him from her arms, holding him close. The moment he was in my grip, he continued to babble and call me baba over and over again.
Ragnar laughed, clapping his hands together. "Congratulations, Lucian. You are now Leo’s baba."
The others chuckled along, but for me, this was completely serious. I looked down at the little boy in my arms, my chest swelling. "Why not? I mean, he is my son."
Alina stepped in, a soft but firm look on her face as she reached out. "It’s time you all leave and let Leo have his rest, okay?" She takes him back from me, adjusting him against her shoulder. "I will put him to sleep."
I nodded, instantly turning to the rest of the guys. "Everyone out."
We all left the nursery, a lingering smile still plastered firmly on my face. I walked straight to my room and brought out my laptop to continue my research. I had thought about staying in the country, but Aiden had already completely destroyed the house I built. The best option now was to leave entirely. I was going to try and convince Alina to come with me. I just needed her to realize that I can truly be the father Leo deserves, and that we can have a happy, real family together. Before she came into my life, I never saw myself as the type of person who would ever get married. She changed everything.
Suddenly, the bedroom door flew open. The smile instantly faded from my face as Ragnar and Boca barged right inside.
"What the hell are you guys doing? Lost your manners?" I snapped, annoyance dripping from my tone.
Ragnar didn’t even apologize. "You’ve got to see this," he said grimly, thrusting his phone right in front of my face.
I grabbed the device and looked at the screen. My eyes widened in absolute shock. "What the hell...?"
There, flashed across the screen, was my face. I was officially being wanted by the police for allegedly trying to harm armless omegas.
"I am being wanted for what?" I muttered, anger bubbling fiercely in my chest.
"Not even just that," Ragnar added, his voice tense. "They actually testified against you."
I scoffed loudly, tossing the phone back to him.
Boca slammed his fist against the wall, his face twisting with rage. "This is the exact reason I said we shouldn’t get involved in the first place! We know these pack people and we know how much they absolutely hate rogues. You tried to help them, and now see what the fuck has happened!"
I rolled my eyes, leaning back in my chair. I didn’t understand why he was getting so worked up about this. "I mean, this isn’t the first time I have been wanted by the law, and they never catch me anyway. So I don’t care."
"It’s different this time, Lucian," Ragnar said, his eyes filled with deep concern. "It feels like this particular pack is really something else. I am seriously worried that we might be attacked tonight."
"Nothing will happen," I dismissed firmly, turning back to my laptop. "Don’t think too much of it. And as for you, Boca, nothing is going to happen, okay? So just dead it and forget it."
Boca glared at me, his jaw tight. "You never goddamn listen." With that, he turned around and walked out of the room in pure annoyance.
Ragnar lingered for a second, sighing heavily. "I might be with Boca on this one, Lucian. This isn’t something we should take lightly." And with that, he walked away too.
I shook my head. They were just being scared for absolutely no reason. Shifting my focus back to the screen, I went right back to my house hunting, and I couldn’t help but smile at the future I was planning.
During the nighttime, sleep refused to come to me. I stayed awake, silently watching Alina sleep peacefully beside me. I reached out, gently caressing her soft hair, completely mesmerized by her.
But then, a faint sound shattered the quiet.
It was far away, deep in the distance, but my sharp ears caught the distinct, rhythmic crunch of footsteps approaching through the brush. Inside my chest, my wolf instantly reared its head, snarling. Danger.
Alina groaned softly, her eyes waking lazily as she shifted against the pillows. She blinked up at me, her voice thick with sleep. "Lucian... you aren’t asleep?"
"I will be soon," I murmured softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "Go back to sleep."
She murmured something incoherent and immediately went back to sleep, her breathing evening out. The moment she was under, I stood up, slipped quietly out of the bed, and walked out of the room.
The hallway wasn’t empty. Boca was already standing near the top of the stairs. The moment his gaze met mine, he shook his head, his face pale with worry.
I walked closer to him, keeping my voice down.
"I told you that we shouldn’t take this lightly," Boca whispered harshly. "They are coming."
"How on earth did they even find this place?" I whispered back, my jaw clenching.
"I told you, these people are different," Boca muttered.
Just then, the doors along the corridor began to open, and the other rogues started coming out, panic and worry written all over their faces. Daniel stepped forward, his eyes dark. "Lucian, I think we will be under attack. I can feel it."
The fact that only us Alphas could feel the oppressive, approaching threat—and not the Betas.
Ragnar looked between us, his voice laced with anxiety. "What do we do?"
My eyes darkened, the beast beneath my skin demanding blood. "We fight. They don’t scare me, and neither should they scare you. So we fight."
The men looked at each other, their expressions hardening, and they nodded in agreement.
We immediately walked down the stairs and stood outside the front doors. I didn’t want whatever was going to happen to happen anywhere close to the house. I needed to keep Alina and Leo completely safe.
I turned back to the group. "You guys stay here, okay? Boca, Daniel, and I will go out and meet them."
"That’s crazy!" Ragnar interjected loudly. "You three won’t be able to fight them all alone!"
"Do what I say and don’t ask questions," I growled, my Alpha command leaking into my tone.
Ragnar stepped right up to me, refusing to back down. "Lucian, you keep forgetting that you aren’t supposed to be ordering us around. We are all in this together. So if you go, we go."
The rest of the rogues stepped up behind him, murmuring their agreement. I scanned their determined faces and realized I didn’t have the time to fight with them about hierarchy right now.
"Fine," I said sharply. "But one of you has to stay behind to take care of Alina and Leo."
Micheal stepped forward immediately. "I’ll stay."
I gave him a firm nod. With the house secured, the rest of us turned and moved quickly down into the dark woods, waiting in the shadows of the thick trees. The sound of the heavy footsteps was getting closer than I thought, the tracking party moving with terrifying speed.
Daniel crouched low, his muscles coiling as he locked his eyes on the tree line. "They are here."
I clenched my fist already, the fury inside me making my wolf spiral out of control.
Finally, they stepped out of the shadows, showing their faces. There were just five of them. The one standing right in the middle took a dominant step forward, his eyes burning with disgust.
"You pathetic rogues have crossed your limits," he spat, his voice echoing through the dark trees. "Kidnapping, raping, and killing... you guys don’t deserve to be anywhere on this earth anymore."
"We didn’t do anything," I shot back, my voice dripping with dangerous venom. "So do your fucking research before accusing us."
My response caused one of the men behind him to break into a harsh, jagged laugh. "Well, if it isn’t the famous Lucian. Once a respectable Alpha, now a pathetic rogue. I hear you are the ring leader here, so I guess whatever it is, you are still trying to rule."
The rest of them laughed along with him. I clenched my fists even tighter, the knuckles turning stark white. I wasn’t finding a single bit of it funny.
Then, another hunter stepped up, his expression turning deathly serious. "Let’s not waste time here. Kill them all."
That was the final straw. The command caused my wolf to completely spiral, the raw, predatory instinct taking over as a guttural snarl ripped from my throat. My fangs snapped out, my claws lengthened into lethal blades, and I prepared to tear them apart.
