Chapter 145: Chapter 145; You are back

Lucian’s POV

A jagged laugh broke from Tanjiro, echoing harshly through the dense crowd, before his face contorted with sudden irritation. "Is this a joke? Because I don’t like jokes."

I stared right back into his furious eyes, keeping my voice absolute steel. "Free those girls right now."

He wasn’t having it. His massive chest heaved as he turned his head and yelled, "Boca, what the fuck is this?! You brought your friend here to insult me? Didn’t you tell him who I was?!"

Boca stepped up immediately, his face tense as he grabbed my shoulder. "Lucian, you can’t do this here. This isn’t our place. We came for only one thing, and we should leave with that one thing, okay? So please, let’s not cause any trouble."

Ragnar chimed in from my other side, his voice strained as he scanned the room of hostile rogues. "I think Boca is right. We can’t face all these people by ourselves. So please, stop."

I scoffed, entirely ignoring their warnings. I yanked my shoulder out of Boca’s grip and walked forward, closing the distance between me and the giant. I looked Tanjiro dead in the face and say, "Let them go. And I am not asking you—I am warning you."

Tanjiro started fuming, his jaw clenching so hard the veins in his neck popped. His eyes began glowing a dangerous, feral red with anger. Beneath my skin, my own wolf started to stir, baring its fangs. I really don’t mind fighting him. I welcomed it.

Tanjiro let out a guttural roar, his body beginning to shift into his primal form as he prepared to launch himself straight at me. But right before his claws could slash across my face, a loud, piercing siren sound started blaring through the walls.

The sudden noise caused an immediate uproar. Panic shot through the den, and everyone instantly started running away in different directions, scrambling for the exits.

Tanjiro froze, forced back into his human form by the sudden chaos. "Who the fuck made that call?!" he roared, his eyes snapping back to me, burning with hatred. "You have made a big mistake."

With that final threat, he turned on his heel and left along with his people, disappearing into the fleeing crowd.

The room emptied out within seconds, leaving only the terrified omegas huddled on the floor. I turned to my friends and say, "Come on, let’s free these girls."

Boca just shakes his head in pure frustration, but he didn’t argue. We moved quickly, untying the ropes and freeing the girls. Some of them tearfully thanked me, while others simply screamed in terror and run out into the night the moment their hands were loose.

Boca kicked a piece of broken glass across the floor, his voice dripping with anger. "Maybe we shouldn’t have come here. You have put me in a fucking problem with Tanjiro! Do you have any idea what that guy can do?"

Ragnar looked around the empty, ruined bar, frowning. "Why was he so scared because of a siren anyway?"

"It means trouble," Boca snapped, rubbing his face. "Those men have some kind of substance to... like, weaken you or something. I don’t really know the specifics, but it stops us cold."

Ragnar’s eyes widened slightly. "Then what the hell are we still waiting for? Shouldn’t we be on the run too?"

"You don’t have to bother. It’s fake."

I froze. I know that stupid, arrogant accent anywhere.

Davon.

I whipped around to see his stupid smile plastered right across his face. He stood near the entrance, casually holding up his phone, which was still loudly looping the recorded sounds of the sirens.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" I demanded, my hands rolling into tight fists.

Davon lowered his phone, tilting his head. "Is that your fancy word of saying thank you?"

Boca stepped forward, his eyes narrowing to slits. "How does he even know this place?"

"Have you forgotten?" Davon said, his smirk widening as he looked at Boca. "I am one of you."

"You aren’t one of us," Boca spat back coldly.

Davon pressed a hand over his chest, feigning injury. "Ouch."

I rolled my eyes, the sheer sight of him making my stomach turn. I turned to Boca and Ragnar and say, "We shouldn’t even bother about this man. Let’s just go."

"Wait, Lucian," Davon called out, stepping into our path as we moved to leave. "You might need my help."

I scoffed loudly, stepping right up into his space. "For fucking what?"

"Tanjiro will come for you," Davon said, his tone suddenly turning serious.

Boca frowned, interjecting sharply. "How do you even know him?"

Davon let out a soft scoff, crossing his arms. "I know more than you think, and I—"

"Shut up," I say, cutting him off entirely before he could spin another one of his webs. "This is exactly what he wants. We trust him, he comes into our lives, and then he betrays us again. It’s not happening."

Davon’s posture softened slightly, a hint of desperation bleeding into his eyes. "I made a mistake. Can’t it be forgotten?"

"Never," I say, my voice deadpan.

And with that, I pushed right past him and walked away, Ragnar and Boca following close behind me.

By the time we got back to the house, I can’t help but feel my blood absolutely boil. Davon really had the goddamn audacity to try and want to come back into our lives again after everything he did. Boca was still visibly damned and stressed about Tanjiro’s impending revenge, but I couldn’t give a single fuck about the giant right now. My mind was completely consumed by pure, unadulterated rage.

But the very second I pushed the front door open, the anger completely vanished from my veins.

My eyes lifted up, widening in surprise on seeing Alina standing right there in the living room.

"Alina," I called out to her, her name leaving my lips like a breath of fresh air.

I didn’t care about the mud on my boots or the chaos we had just escaped. I went straight closer to her, wrapped my arms tightly around her waist, and lifted her completely off her feet.

"You came back," I say, a breathless laugh escaping me as I swirl her around in the air.

She let out a bright, beautiful giggle, her hands resting on my shoulders as the movement spun her hair around us. "Why won’t I come back?"

I put her down, but the moment her feet touched the floor, I didn’t waste any time. I leaned down and laid a fierce, deeply possessive kiss right on her lips, before pulling away to pepper kisses all over her jaw and neck, causing her to giggle even more against my chest.

"I really missed you," I murmured, burying my face in the crook of her neck, breathing in her sweet scent to wash away the smell of the rogue den.

"I can tell," she says softly, her fingers gently running through the hairs at the nape of my neck. Then, she pulled back slightly, her brow furrowing as she looked me up and down. "Where were you coming from? And why do I have so many different scents on me?"
