Chapter 136: Chapter 136; You don’t matter to me!

Alina’s POV

I opened the door, and the moment my eyes landed on Emily, a slow smirk tugged at the corners of my lips. Before I could even utter a greeting, she shoved past my shoulder, storming right into my room.

I looked at the open space behind her, unbothered. "Why don’t you just come right in?" I murmured sarcastically, swinging the heavy oak door shut and clicking the lock into place.

Emily spun around, her face twisted in a mask of pure fury. "What the hell did you tell Aiden?"

I tilted my head, crossing my arms as I looked at her. "What the hell did I tell Aiden? What could I have possibly told him, Emily?"

"Don’t you dare fucking mess with me, Alina!" she hissed, stepping into my space.

"I am not messing with you," I replied, my voice dropping into a dangerously calm register.

"Oh, I know exactly what this is about," Emily scoffed, a wicked, triumphant grin suddenly breaking through her anger. "You are out of your mind with rage because Lucian and I had sex, aren’t you? You feel absolutely terrible knowing he was right under me, begging for my sweet, slimy, wet pussy and moaning out my name in the dark."

At her words, a violent jolt went through my chest. I clenched my fists tightly behind my back, the skin over my knuckles stretching white as I fought with everything I had to maintain my composure. I forced a cold, unbothered smile onto my face.

"Is that all?" I asked flatly.

The triumphant grin on Emily’s face instantly faded away, replaced by an ugly scowl. "Stay out of my business, Alina! Whatever the hell I do is none of your concern."

"Emily, can you even hear yourself right now?" I let out a soft, mocking laugh. "I should stay away from your business? You really aren’t that important to me. In fact, you are the one constantly inserting yourself into my life. I know I will always be the absolute highlight of your pathetic existence, but you need to learn exactly when it is time to stop."

"How dare you!" she shrieked, her hand flying up as she lunged forward to slap me across the face.

My reflexes kicked in instantly. I snatched her wrist mid-air, my grip tightening like an iron vise. I leaned in close, my eyes boring into hers. "I wouldn’t do that if I were you."

With a sharp shove, I pushed her arm away, making her stumble backward. I stared down at her, the temperature in the room dropping. "You are entering a pit that you might never be able to crawl out of, Emily. Do yourself a massive favor and get the fuck out of my room."

"Alina, you will never get what you want," she snarled, smoothing down her shirt.

"I have already gotten everything I want," I countered calmly.

Emily frowned, a flash of utter confusion crossing her features before she masked it with another sneer. "You are the one obsessing over things that are rightfully mine. Lucian will never be yours."

"I genuinely pity you, Emily," I said, walking over to the edge of my bed and leaning against the post. "You spend all your time coming up with these desperate plans and strategies, but absolutely nothing works. Do you honestly think you dragging me to that house to walk in on you and Lucian would destroy me?" I laughed, a sharp, cutting sound. "You seriously need to up your game."

Emily froze, her chest heaving. "What... you don’t care that Lucian slept with me?"

"I know for a fact it never happened," I stated, my voice echoing with absolute certainty. "You can’t even get his dick to rise for you, Emily. So how on earth would he ever sleep with you? Save your energy. You have a baby coming, so stop with these stupid, pathetic plans."

A jagged, hysterical laugh broke from Emily’s chest. She glared at me, her eyes wild. "You can act like absolutely nothing affects you, Alina, but that little performance won’t continue for long. As long as I am breathing, I will always make your life a living hell."

I met her volatile gaze, a slow, mocking smile blooming on my face. "I look forward to it."

The smile entirely broke her. Emily’s face twisted in an ugly frown. Without another word, she spun around, unlocked the door, and stormed out into the hallway, slamming the heavy wood behind her so hard the walls rattled.

I sank onto the edge of the mattress, the silence of the room rushing back in.

Why are you letting her live? my wolf’s voice growled in my head, raw and bloodthirsty. You could end her life in a matter of seconds.

I opened my mouth to respond, to tell her we had to play the long game, but the words died in my throat. A sudden, intoxicating scent filtered through the open window. It was thick, dark, and smelled faintly of rain and pine.

I knew exactly who owned that scent.

My heart hammered against my ribs. I rushed over to the window and pushed the curtain aside. Down below, standing in the shadows of the courtyard, was Lucian.

I didn’t think. I didn’t care about the risk or the contract. I sprinted across the room, unlocked the door, and threw it open just as he reached the threshold. He stepped inside, his clothes slightly disheveled, his dark eyes wide with an agonizing mix of guilt and fear.

"Alina, I—"

"Shut up," I breathed.

I reached out, grabbed the lapels of his jacket, and yanked him into the room. I slammed my lips against his, kissing him with a raw, desperate ferocity that took the breath right out of his lungs.

Lucian froze in sheer shock for a fraction of a second, confusion swirling in his scent, but he didn’t ask a single question. The bond snapped tightly between us, and he matched my desperation instantly. He wrapped his massive arms around my waist, lifting me slightly as he poured his entire soul into the kiss, tasting me like a dying man finding water.

He moved us blindly through the shadows, pressing my back hard against the bedroom wall. The impact didn’t register. We kept destroying each other’s mouths, our tongues tangling in a frantic, wild rhythm until the lack of oxygen finally forced us apart.

We stayed trapped in each other’s space, our chests heaving as we caught our breath. Lucian leaned his forehead against mine, his large hands cupping my face as his dark eyes desperately searched mine.
