Chapter 316: Chapter 314: Fusion
By the time Zhan Yang and the others reached Jiang Chen, it was already too late.
All they saw was a streak of white light fly from the strange man’s body and swiftly burrow into Jiang Chen.
"Did you all see that white light? What the hell was that?"
JinLing, running at the head of the group, was the first to see it—a white light that appeared and vanished in a flash, burrowing into Jiang Chen’s body.
Zhan Yang, Niu Tuo, and the others all saw it.
But they all shook their heads.
"No idea."
As they spoke, they gathered around Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen’s body lay exposed on the ground.
But the strange man from before was now just like a corpse, lying facedown on the ground, motionless.
"Something’s not right."
"How did this strange man die?"
"Could it have something to do with that white light?"
Lu Beifeng eyed the corpse with suspicion, inspecting it closely.
He found that the strange man was indeed devoid of any life force, his body cold.
But he was fine just a moment ago, and now he was suddenly dead.
It was very strange.
An idea occurred to him.
He said to Zhan Yang and the others, "This man might have been dead for a long time, just controlled by that white light."
"You might be right."
"But now that white light has entered Jiang Chen’s body. Will it have some kind of effect?"
Zhan Yang also guessed that the creature’s objective had been Jiang Chen’s body all along.
Now the enemy had gotten its hands on the corpse.
And they couldn’t just cut open Jiang Chen’s body to check on the white light inside.
A glint flashed in Lu Beifeng’s eyes. "I’ll test something," he declared.
"This corpse is very odd."
He drew his sword again and slashed at the strange man’s corpse.
SPLAT!
The corpse was instantly split in two.
They waited for it to grow back together.
But strangely, this time, the body didn’t mend itself.
Seeing this, they looked at each other in dismay.
"How bizarre."
"It seems this body was dead all along, just controlled by the white light. That’s why it seemed so uncanny to us."
"Now it seems that white light wants to control Jiang Chen."
At this, the four of them paled.
They absolutely could not allow Jiang Chen to be controlled by the white light and turn into that kind of monster.
They quickly looked over.
They saw Jiang Chen’s body twitching uncontrollably on the sand, as if something were moving inside it.
The four of them turned pale.
They had no idea what was happening, and there was nothing they could do.
"Brother, what do we do? We have to save Jiang Chen! Even if he’s dead, we can’t let his body be tortured like this."
JinLing couldn’t bear to watch. It seemed the white light had the ability to control corpses.
Zhan Yang shook his head.
"We don’t understand the situation at all. Our hands are tied."
Soon, Jiang Chen’s body began to convulse even more violently.
WHOOSH!
Suddenly, a streak of white light shot out of Jiang Chen’s body.
It sped toward the corpse of the strange man.
In an instant, the white light sank into the two halves of the corpse that Lu Beifeng had cut apart.
Then, a bizarre scene unfolded.
The body that had been cut in two and failed to heal now, upon the white light’s entry, rapidly fused back together into a single, complete corpse.
Then, the strange man scrambled up from the ground and began to stride away.
"This..."
"This is too damn weird. What in the world is that monster?"
The four of them were dumbfounded, having just witnessed such a grotesque scene with their own eyes.
They still couldn’t quite process it.
They didn’t understand why the white light had emerged from Jiang Chen’s body only to flee in such a hurry.
At the same time, while the four were still stunned...
Jiang Chen’s body, which had been lying on the ground, suddenly moved.
He flipped over and scrambled to his feet. Then, to the four’s utter astonishment, he shot off with incredible speed, heading straight for the strange man possessed by the white light.
He caught up to it and grabbed the strange man with his bare hands.
BOOM!
Jiang Chen seized the monster and slammed a fist into its body, instantly blasting it to smithereens.
After the strange man exploded, it didn’t reform.
As the body burst apart, a streak of white light abruptly appeared—it seemed to be the same one from before.
The white light immediately fell to the ground and tried to burrow into the sand.
Once it hit the ground, Zhan Yang and the others saw it clearly: it was a palm-sized, white, soft-bodied worm.
It seemed to be afraid of Jiang Chen and was trying to escape underground.
But Jiang Chen reached out and, with incredible speed and precision, snatched the white worm.
Without a second thought, Jiang Chen shoved the worm directly into his mouth.
CHOMP...
As if eating a meal, Jiang Chen swallowed the white worm in one gulp.
Afterward, Jiang Chen stood there stock-still, not moving an inch.
Though his eyes were vacant, a light slowly began to return to them.
"Ah...!"
Although she didn’t understand the bizarre events that had just transpired, Jiang Chen had caught that worm and eaten it.
JinLing cried out in surprise and delight, "Jiang Chen’s not dead! He’s not dead!"
She was ecstatic. She was sure of it—Jiang Chen was definitely not dead.
Zhan Yang and the others exchanged glances.
They had all noticed the same thing.
Jiang Chen wasn’t dead. He definitely wasn’t dead.
’But,’ they thought, ’none of the Martial Cultivators whose souls were devoured by the Ghost survived before.’
’How did Jiang Chen survive?’
But right now, they couldn’t be completely sure if Jiang Chen was truly alive.
Jiang Chen stood on the ground, his body trembling slightly.
In truth, Jiang Chen had not died.
His soul had merely been torn apart by the Ghost, leaving it fragmented and unable to recover.
If he were to recover on his own, it would have taken a very long time.
But just now, a white worm had drilled into his body.
At that moment, within Jiang Chen’s sea of consciousness, the remnants of the Ghost began to throb violently upon discovering the white worm, as if they had found something that excited them.
They reflexively tried to devour the white worm.
The white worm had originally thought Jiang Chen was a corpse it could control.
But when it discovered Jiang Chen was alive, it tried to flee.
In reality, Jiang Chen’s soul had not dissipated, but rather existed as fragments within the Ghost’s remnants.
At this moment, it was extremely difficult for him to restore his soul to wholeness.
Realizing that the white worm was actually useful for his soul’s recovery, how could he let it escape? He had shot up reflexively, grabbed the worm, and swallowed it whole.
Now, within his sea of consciousness...
A massive change was taking place.
Because the Ghost had been killed by the Vermilion Bird Fire, its corpse had been preserved and remained within Jiang Chen’s sea of consciousness.
At this moment, inside his sea of consciousness.
The white worm that Jiang Chen had swallowed appeared.
The moment it appeared, the remnants of the Ghost immediately noticed the white worm and rushed toward it.
Then, a bizarre scene unfolded.
The remnants of the Ghost actually began to merge, using the white worm as a catalyst.
As the Ghost’s remnants fused, Jiang Chen’s scattered soul fragments also began to merge.
It was all because of the white worm.
It seemed the white worm possessed a terrifying power of fusion, capable of making scattered things whole again.
Jiang Chen’s soul happened to be in just such a scattered state, and under the white worm’s influence, it began to rapidly fuse back together.
