Chapter 1706: Nick’s Trust!
After hearing everything regarding Karo, Munro, and the situation of the humans within Starfall Haven, Max remained silent for quite some time. His eyes slowly swept across the enormous Combat Hall where countless battles continued unfolding every moment.
The cheering crowds, the excited participants, and the seemingly peaceful atmosphere all appeared normal on the surface. Yet now that he knew the truth, Max could clearly see the invisible chains binding the human participants.
Whether they stayed within the city or attempted to leave it, they ultimately became prey for the two demon princes.
Eventually, a faint smile appeared across Max’s face.
Through Divine Essence Transmission, he calmly said, "I understand the situation now. Since that is the case, I will take care of the problem here in Starfall Haven myself."
The moment those words entered his ears, Nick’s eyes widened slightly.
He instinctively looked toward Max. For a brief moment, he wondered whether Max truly understood what he was saying.
The opponents in question were not ordinary geniuses. They were the sons of a Star Lord. Even he, a disciple of the War God Palace, couldn’t defeat them.
Among the countless monstrous talents participating in the Cosmic Ascension Conference, Karo and Munro stood near the very top.
Yet despite that, Max’s expression remained completely calm, as though he had merely decided to handle a minor inconvenience.
Nick did not respond immediately.
Instead, he quietly observed Max.
To outsiders, Max’s cultivation at the peak of Law Awakening Realm appeared insignificant compared to the countless peak Law Refinement Realm geniuses gathered within the Combat Hall.
Normally, Nick would never place his hopes on someone with such a cultivation level.
However, Max was different.
Over the past few months, countless stories had circulated throughout portions of the War God Palace regarding the young man standing before him.
Nick personally knew several disciples who had entered the secret domain of Orion alongside Max.
When those disciples returned, they had spoken about him repeatedly.
Some claimed Max possessed combat strength completely detached from his cultivation realm.
Others described impossible battles where Max defeated opponents that should have crushed him easily.
There were even people who claimed that every time Max appeared cornered, he somehow revealed another terrifying trump card that shocked everyone around him.
The more he learned about Max, the more he felt that ordinary logic simply did not apply to him.
And because of that—
He trusted Max should be able to take care of the situation if he said he could do it.
Soon, time gradually passed within the Combat Hall as one participant after another was called from the waiting area where Max stood toward one of the ten massive arenas spread throughout the enormous structure to participate in the ten consecutive victory trial.
This caused the atmosphere to become increasingly lively and intense with every passing minute as countless spectators watched the battles unfold while discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the various challengers, placing bets, exchanging information, and evaluating which participants might have a chance of completing the Ten Consecutive Victory Trial.
Some challengers managed to win their first few battles and returned to the waiting area with renewed confidence, while others suffered immediate defeats and left with bitter expressions after losing everything they had accumulated so far.
Throughout all of this, Max remained calm and patient, silently observing everything around him while occasionally shifting his attention from one arena to another as he studied the participants present within the Combat Hall.
It was during this period of observation that Max finally noticed something unusual. At first, he did not immediately identify Karo because he had never seen him before. However, after watching several battles and paying close attention to the reactions of the crowd, he gradually began to notice a recurring pattern that appeared again and again.
Whenever a human participant managed to reach their eighth or ninth consecutive victory and stood on the verge of obtaining the one-million-Killing-Point reward, a particular demon would suddenly appear and challenge them.
The result of those battles never changed. Every single human who faced that demon ultimately lost, regardless of how strong they had appeared beforehand, and the accumulated Killing Points they had worked so hard to obtain would immediately fall into the hands of that same individual.
Eventually, Max’s attention settled entirely on the demon responsible for those challenges.
That demon was Karo.
The moment Max finally focused on him properly, he immediately understood why Karo had become such a feared figure among the human participants.
The demon’s appearance alone was enough to intimidate most people. He stood nearly three meters tall with a body that looked as though it had been forged from dark crimson metal rather than flesh and blood.
His shoulders were broad enough to make even many demons appear small in comparison, while his arms were covered in dense muscles that radiated explosive strength.
Unlike ordinary demons whose skin was usually black, Karo’s skin possessed a deep crimson color that seemed to glow faintly under the lights of the Combat Hall.
Two enormous golden horns curved backward from his forehead, and strange runes continuously moved across their surfaces like living creatures. His golden eyes were perhaps the most striking feature of all. They contained neither excitement nor anger.
Instead, they held only indifference, as though everyone around him existed on a completely different level from himself.
Strapped across his back was a gigantic black greatsword whose size alone made it appear more like a siege weapon than a personal armament. The sword was almost as tall as Karo himself, yet he carried it effortlessly, casually resting one hand upon its hilt whenever he walked.
Even from a distance, Max could feel a powerful aura radiating from both the demon and the weapon he carried.
However, what truly drew Max’s attention was not Karo’s appearance.
It was the way everyone reacted to him.
Whenever Karo stood up from his seat and began walking toward one of the arenas, the atmosphere throughout the Combat Hall changed instantly. The demon spectators would smile and laugh while openly discussing how many Killing Points Karo was about to acquire.
Meanwhile, the expressions of the human participants would immediately darken. Excitement disappeared. Hope vanished. Many people would lower their heads while others clenched their fists in frustration. It was almost as though they had already accepted the outcome before the battle even began.
Max soon witnessed this phenomenon personally.
