Chapter 1705: Elf Race’s Stance!
The moment those words entered Nick’s ears, a bitter smile appeared on his face.
"I thought exactly the same thing when I first arrived here," Nick transmitted through Divine Essence. "And so did many other humans. Unfortunately, that is where the real conspiracy begins."
Max’s expression immediately became more serious.
Nick glanced around once more before continuing.
"Humans did leave Starfall Haven."
His voice gradually became colder.
"At least, they tried to."
Max immediately sensed that something was wrong.
Nick continued, "Most participants are unaware of it when they first arrive, but Starfall Haven has a very peculiar layout. There are numerous ways to enter the city. Participants can arrive from countless different regions throughout the Eternal Hourglass and enter through various gates and pathways. However, there is only one official exit."
Max frowned slightly.
Only one exit?
Nick nodded.
"And that single exit is precisely where the second part of the conspiracy takes place."
The atmosphere around them suddenly became much heavier.
Nick’s expression darkened considerably as he continued speaking.
"Munro."
The name alone seemed to carry immense pressure.
"While Karo remains inside Starfall Haven suppressing human participants within the Combat Hall, Munro stations himself outside the city’s only exit."
Max’s eyes narrowed immediately.
At that moment, he already had a rough idea of what came next.
Nick clenched his fists.
"Whenever a human leaves Starfall Haven carrying a large amount of Killing Points, Munro intercepts them."
His voice carried obvious anger.
"And then he kills them."
A cold silence followed.
Meanwhile, battles continued raging within the nearby arenas while countless participants cheered and shouted, completely unaware of the conversation taking place between Max and Nick.
Nick continued, "At first, people believed it was a coincidence. Then they thought Munro was merely targeting certain individuals. However, after enough incidents occurred, the pattern became impossible to ignore."
His eyes gradually turned colder.
"He specifically targets humans."
Max remained silent.
Nick continued, "Those who lose in the Combat Hall eventually try their luck elsewhere. Those who accumulate Killing Points and wish to leave the city are forced to pass through the exit. And the moment they do, Munro takes everything."
A bitter laugh escaped Nick.
"Karo farms the humans inside Starfall Haven."
"Munro farms the humans outside Starfall Haven."
Max finally understood.
This was far more sinister than he initially imagined.
The two demon brothers had effectively transformed the entire city into a gigantic harvesting ground.
Humans entered the city hoping to earn opportunities.
Inside the Combat Hall, Karo robbed them of their rewards.
If they chose to leave instead, Munro robbed them outside the city.
No matter which path they took, the result remained the same.
The Killing Points eventually flowed into the hands of the two demon brothers.
Nick slowly exhaled before continuing.
"Because of this, many humans now refer to Starfall Haven as a cage."
His eyes slowly swept across the countless human participants gathered throughout the Combat Hall.
"A beautiful cage. Most people trapped inside do not even realize they are being farmed."
Max’s gaze gradually turned colder.
The more he learned about the situation, the more absurd it sounded.
A city created to provide opportunities had effectively become a trap specifically targeting human participants.
Meanwhile, Nick looked directly at Max.
"The worst part is that nobody can stop them. Karo and Munro are already terrifying individually. Together, they are even worse."
A faint look of helplessness appeared on his face.
"Many talented humans have challenged them. Every single one failed."
Then Nick paused briefly before adding one final sentence.
"And because they are the sons of a Star Lord, most people do not dare provoke them even if they survive."
At that moment, Max finally understood why the humans within Starfall Haven looked so frustrated despite having access to one of the greatest opportunities in the Eternal Hourglass.
They were trapped.
And the ones holding the key to the cage were two demon princes named Karo and Munro.
Max remained silent for several moments after hearing Nick’s explanation. His eyes slowly swept across the enormous Combat Hall where countless participants continued cheering, fighting, and gambling away their fortunes without realizing that a far larger game was being played behind the scenes.
After pondering for a moment, Max suddenly thought of another matter.
Since the demons were targeting humans so aggressively, there was still one major race whose position remained unclear.
Turning back toward Nick, Max asked through Divine Essence Transmission, "What about the elves? If the demons are doing this so openly, then surely the elves are affected as well?"
Nick immediately shook his head.
"The elves are different."
His expression became somewhat complicated.
"There seems to be an unspoken understanding between the elves and demons. I would not call them allies because they do not openly cooperate with one another, but they certainly do not interfere with each other’s affairs either."
His gaze briefly shifted toward a group of elves standing near one of the arenas.
Several of them were calmly observing a battle while completely ignoring everything happening around them.
Nick continued, "As far as we can tell, the demons rarely target elves, and the elves rarely provoke the demons. Both sides generally maintain a neutral stance toward one another."
A bitter smile appeared on his face afterward.
"As for what happens to us humans..."
He paused briefly.
"The elves simply do not care."
His voice contained obvious dissatisfaction.
"Whether Karo robs another human inside the Combat Hall or whether Munro kills another human outside the city makes no difference to them. As long as the situation does not affect their own interests, they pretend not to see it."
Nick’s eyes gradually darkened.
"Many human participants originally hoped the elves might oppose the demons since allowing Karo and Munro to grow stronger benefits nobody except the demon race. However, those hopes quickly disappeared."
He looked directly at Max.
"The elves remain completely indifferent."
"Humans lose Killing Points."
"Humans get hunted."
"Humans get trapped inside Starfall Haven."
"They simply watch from the sidelines."
A cold light flashed through Max’s eyes as he listened.
Meanwhile, Nick continued, "In fact, some people suspect that the elves actually prefer the current situation. The demons suppress the humans while the elves remain untouched. Both races continue accumulating resources while the humans become weaker and weaker."
He then shook his head.
"Of course, that is only speculation. Nobody has any proof."
The sounds of cheering suddenly erupted from a nearby arena as another participant was defeated, causing the surrounding crowd to roar with excitement.
Yet despite the noisy atmosphere surrounding them, the conversation between Max and Nick only became heavier.
At that moment, Max’s gaze slowly shifted toward the various elves scattered throughout the Combat Hall.
His expression remained calm.
However, deep within his eyes, a dangerous light briefly flashed before disappearing once again.
