Chapter 1801 - Hunt
The Dragon Burial Mountain Range belonged to no one, which made the Wen Clan's decision to guard the exit unreasonable from the start.
Such behavior could easily provoke resentment from others. Although cultivators weaker than the Wen Clan would tolerate being questioned, true experts would not necessarily put up with the Wen Clan's arrogance.
After all, many Divine Immortals had entered the Dragon Burial Mountain Range this time. That thought immediately made Wen Qi suspect that they might have unknowingly angered a Divine Immortal. Yet even after calling out for half a day, Wen Qi still received no response.
"Could it be some sort of powerful immortal beast?" Wen Qiu muttered. His voice was not loud, but everyone heard him clearly.
"Bullshit! If it were an immortal beast, there would be footprints left behind," a Wen Clan disciple standing beside Wen Qiu sneered.
If it had been an aerial immortal beast, its flight would have stirred a powerful current through the area. If it had been a land-based immortal beast, it would have left tracks behind.
"Everyone, spread out and search for the two of them!" Wen Qi immediately gave the order, and everyone scattered. He suspected that someone was controlling Wen Shan and had trapped him.
The remaining twenty-five people spread out to search, while the two Origin Immortals headed in different directions.
"Let the game begin!" Liu Wuxie had been waiting for them to scatter. He gripped the crossbow and silently followed behind two Spirit Immortals.
Arrows flew out without a sound, producing only the faintest air current as the mechanism launched them. The two Spirit Immortals had their backs to Liu Wuxie and knew nothing of the arrows closing in on them.
The moment the arrows drilled into their bodies, they swiftly destroyed their primordial spirits, giving them no chance to scream.
Just as their bodies were about to hit the ground, a black hole emerged and devoured them both. The entire process unfolded flawlessly.
As Ye Linghan watched Liu Wuxie kill the Wen Clan's disciples, a trace of fear surfaced in her eyes. She realised that if the City Lord Mansion ever offended someone like Liu Wuxie, he would become their nightmare.
In only fifteen minutes, Liu Wuxie had already killed four Wen Clan experts.
Even in Fourfold City, Spirit Immortals held a certain status. These people were all elites of the Wen Clan, and the loss of even one would strike them heavily.
As the slaughter continued, Liu Wuxie deliberately targeted the Spirit Immortals while avoiding the Profound Immortals. It took him two hours to kill all fifteen Spirit Immortals.
With that, only ten Profound Immortals remained, along with the Origin Immortals, and they were far more troublesome to handle.
"We might cause some commotion next, and I'll be relying on you now," Liu Wuxie said, turning his gaze to Ye Linghan.
Profound Immortals possessed a powerful divine sense, so once the arrows approached, they would certainly detect them.
Ye Linghan nodded in response, having long been eager to make her move.
Liu Wuxie had to wipe out everyone from the Wen Clan before dawn. Once daylight arrived, the light would greatly weaken the arrows' power.
As the Wen Clan members widened their search, they failed to discover any trace of battle nearby. Left with no other choice, they could only regroup.
"Ready!" Liu Wuxie lay atop a large tree and steadied the crossbow, aiming it at the Profound Immortal walking toward him.
"A little closer!" He did not dare act carelessly against a Profound Immortal. The nearer the target came, the greater his chance of success.
Ye Linghan could use the flag to deal with the two Origin Immortals, but if she did not eliminate the Profound Immortals, they would remain a potential threat to Liu Wuxie.
When the arrow shot out, its momentum was twice as powerful as before.
The instant Liu Wuxie fired, a stinging pain pierced his upper dantian as the Divine Tribulation Pupil accelerated its absorption of mental energy from the surroundings. Meanwhile, Ghost Pupil locked onto the target, and the arrow reached him in the blink of an eye.
"Who's there?!" the Profound Immortal yelled, instantly alarming Wen Qi and the others, who rushed toward his location.
At that precise moment, Ye Linghan moved in another direction and deliberately leaked a trace of her aura, drawing the enemies' attention away.
"Chase!" Wen Qi and the others fell for the trick and pursued Ye Linghan. With no one left to intervene, Liu Wuxie achieved his goal and killed the Profound Immortal.
"Power of the Divine Tribulation Pupil!" Mental energy surged out like mercury, compressed into a thin thread, and drilled into that Profound Immortal's soul sea.
His consciousness blurred at once, and he staggered before collapsing to the ground. At that moment, the arrow arrived and burrowed into his body as a miserable scream ripped through the night sky.
"This is bad! Someone tricked us all!" Wen Qi finally realized that the enemy had used the earlier movement as a diversion to lure them away.
By the time they returned, the Profound Immortal struck by the arrow had vanished completely. With that, Liu Wuxie had relied on the Divine Tribulation Pupil to kill a Profound Immortal.
However, the price he had paid was also severe. The mental energy in his upper dantian was nearly exhausted. Without hesitation, he leaped down from the tree and shot into the distance.
Next, it was Ye Linghan's turn to continue this game of cat and mouse. With her current cultivation at the second-level Origin Immortal Realm, her combat strength had soared. She quickly locked onto a peak Profound Immortal, and the Frostsword released a sword ray that easily claimed her target's life.
Whenever Wen Qi and the others prepared to rush back and help, Liu Wuxie fired the crossbow again from another direction. In this way, the two cooperated seamlessly. When Liu Wuxie attacked, Ye Linghan lured the others away. Then they switched roles, with Liu Wuxie drawing most of the enemies off while Ye Linghan killed.
Just like that, the two unleashed an unprecedented slaughter inside the Dragon Burial Mountain Range. Of the twenty-seven who had come, only seven remained. The lone Profound Immortals disappeared one after another.
"Regroup quickly. The enemy has been using a diversion tactic," Wen Qi shouted.
By the time he discovered the enemy's tactic, it was already too late. Ye Linghan's methods were no weaker than Liu Wuxie's.
The seven swiftly gathered together, and fear surfaced in everyone's eyes.
"How did this happen? Who is hunting us?" one of them asked.
The remaining peak Profound Immortals were scared. They didn't suspect Liu Wuxie and Ye Linghan to be the attackers.
They had only seen Liu Wuxie swallowed by the mysterious eyeball, and they had no idea that he had reunited with Ye Linghan. Everyone who knew the truth was already dead.
The seven exchanged glances, and without realizing it, cold sweat had covered all their palms.
"What should we do now?" They also feared death, especially this kind of inexplicable death.
"What cowardly bastard is behind this? Come out and fight us head-on!" Wen Qi roared. His voice spread outward in ripples, shattering the surrounding trees into countless shards that shot out, forcing the hidden enemies to reveal themselves.
Yet the surroundings remained deathly silent, with only Wen Qi's voice echoing through the mountain for a long time.
"Elder, why don't we leave this place first?" A dignified Profound Immortal was frightened out of his wits. After all, waiting for death was the most terrifying torment, one capable of easily destroying a person's dao heart.
"Stop hiding and come fight us openly if you dare!" Wen Qi continued shouting. He knew that with so many people dead, he would have no way to explain himself to the patriarch.
"Fight openly?" a voice sounded in their ears, but they couldn't determine where it came from. "Is your Wen Clan even worthy of those words?"
Liu Wuxie had disguised his original voice and used only mental energy to prevent the enemies from determining his position.
Wen Qi and the other Wen Clan members frowned. They could not recognize the voice, nor did they understand why the other party had attacked them.
"Could there be some misunderstanding between us? Senior, why don't you show yourself so that we can speak face to face?" Wen Qi asked, cupping his fists while forcefully suppressing the murderous intent in his heart.
They had searched for a long time and still failed to identify the killer. Instead, the Wen Clan had lost so many people.
After waiting for a long while without receiving any response, Wen Qi's expression grew darker by the minute. The situation had fallen into a stalemate. As long as the seven stayed together, killing them would be impossible.
Even with Ye Linghan's current strength, dealing with all seven enemies at once would still be somewhat difficult.
"If we can eliminate one or two more, the remaining won't be a concern. I can handle them alone," Ye Linghan said, quickly making her judgment and transmitting her voice to Liu Wuxie.
In a frontal confrontation, a first-level Profound Immortal could easily take Liu Wuxie's life, which meant they had to make their plan absolutely foolproof.
"I'll lure two away while the remaining are yours," Liu Wuxie replied. He soon made his decision and planned to reveal himself to lure several Profound Immortals away.
"No! That's too dangerous!" Ye Linghan retorted. That was no different from sending Liu Wuxie into a tiger's den. Profound Immortals were extremely fast, and avoiding them all would not be easy for Liu Wuxie.
"Do as I say and end the battle as quickly as possible," Liu Wuxie responded. Once he made a decision, no one could change his mind. Without hesitation, he flashed out and deliberately revealed himself.
"It's Liu Wuxie!" Under the moonlight, the seven could barely see a hundred meters ahead, and Wen Qi immediately detected Liu Wuxie.
Several Profound Immortals exchanged incredulous glances when they saw him. "How is this possible?! How could he have possibly killed so many of our people?"
"After him!" The moment the Profound Immortals saw Liu Wuxie, they rushed after him.
"Don't! Be careful that it might be another diversion!"
The moment the seven split up, they could easily fall into Liu Wuxie's trap. Thus, Wen Qi called out to them, trying to keep everyone gathered for safety.
The Profound Immortals who had rushed out stopped.
"Are we going to allow Liu Wuxie to provoke us like this?"
Liu Wuxie stood only a hundred meters away, deliberately exposing himself with a faint provocative smile that made them gnash their teeth in hatred. Yet they did not dare leave, afraid they would fall into another trap. That feeling naturally filled them with frustration.
"Wen Qi, what are you doing? Liu Wuxie is right in front of us, and why aren't we chasing after him?" The other Origin Immortal could not understand why they were staying there instead of chasing Liu Wuxie.
With everyone gathered in one place, they could do nothing.
"We'll split into two teams, each led by an Origin Immortal. One team stays here while the other chases after Liu Wuxie," Wen Qi said after pondering briefly.
He immediately led two Profound Immortals to chase after Liu Wuxie, while the other Origin Immortal stayed behind. This outcome naturally caught Liu Wuxie by surprise. He had originally thought Wen Qi would only send Profound Immortals after him.
But now that things had reached this point, there was no room left to retreat. He could only hope Ye Linghan would end the battle quickly.
Ye Linghan naturally grew anxious when she saw this, but Liu Wuxie's voice sounded in her mind.
"Act according to the plan!"
Liu Wuxie pushed his strongest footwork to the limit and charged into the depths of the mountain range. The instant Wen Qi gave chase, Ye Linghan rushed into the battlefield with the flag in her hand.
The three experts who remained behind were all caught off guard. They clearly had not expected an ambush nearby, and Liu Wuxie had completely drawn their attention away.
"Kill!" Boundless murderous intent swept out and enveloped all three of them.
"It's Ye Linghan!" the remaining Origin Immortal cried out. Everything immediately became clear, and the person ambushing the Wen Clan turned out to be Ye Linghan.
