Chapter 189: Voice hunters
The battle had turned into a deadlock; after three days, Ray was still dodging feathers and claws. With both sides having the same number, none of them could find an opening; Idrils just shot feathers and ran while wolves teleported.
The only reason that Ray stayed was to finish off the ones that fell; the rest of the time it was too risky to do anything.
21 of the idrils were remaining plus 15 of the wolves. "If I weren’t here, the idrils would have won by now." He didn’t want the battle so fast, so from time to time he protected the wolves.
The unsettling part of everything was no one had made a sound; even after being torn apart, they refused to make any sound.
Being hours away from regaining his devil and pure magic, Ray moved to the sidelines, where attacks were less fierce. Star Crimson still took a whole week to recharge, but his devil magic only needed four days after becoming an immortal.
One of the birds made a mistake; alone in a corner, soon four wolves surrounded it. As it fell down from the sky, Ray attacked its half-dead body.
Seeing the massage, his heart was filled with joy; his last two targets were dead before he even reached them.
"I should escape as soon as kill a few more..." For now, both sides didn’t count him as a threat, but as their numbers decreased, they would finally target him. Among the chaos of the battle was the best time to escape.
For the next hours, no one fell on both sides; however, Ray could see the speed of both sides was decaying. Unlike him, they fought to their limits for three days.
An idril shot its feathers at Ray, with new ones growing on its hand; all it saw before dying was darkness devouring its world in an instant. Ray dodged the feathers before everyone’s attention got to him; he targeted the nearest wolf too.
The reward for the wolf was different; among the five idrils that he had killed, only two gave out feathers as rewards, but wolves only gave crystals. "So there is a drop rate chance..."
"Now the biggest mystery!"
Ray’s roar filled the sky; all the creatures around him froze in their spot for a second before all of them ran from the battlefield with their maximum speed.
His wings carried him to the border of the hurricane with the blood eyes looking for anything that was about to happen.
The ground beneath them opened, with tentacles coming out of it. For each creature on the field was one; before Ray could react, a purple tentacle took the grip of his leg.
A dragon tail cut his own leg in a rush; with cold sweat, he increased his speed to the limit. Happy with the leg, the tentacle returned to the ground. Ray and two idrals were dragged on the ground to the hole.
"Wolves can teleport; that’s why none of them got caught..." The mist faded away as the normal state of Mars took over his sight; his eyes were blurry for the four days inside the hurricane.
His legs were still not healed, meaning whatever hunted with the sound was at least three to four levels higher than him.
The king of red wolves has marked you.
The queen of idrals has marked you.
"So they had a leader... It’s a blessing that I’m underleveled."
Looking back at the hurricane, Ray became excited again. "With this, I won’t even need a crystal farm. Marking me means they are well aware of the tricks I used today. Too bad I wouldn’t return with these ones..."
Although both devil’s claw and crimson star were powerful, their time limit was too much of a drawback, and dealing with wild animals with less intelligence made it much simpler.
Checking his inventory, he had 18 million dark crystals after all the hunts he had made. "I need equipment to venture further into the hurricane..."
Teleporting into his room, for the first time Ray could smell himself; the smell of blood of iron and blood had mixed into giving him a disgusting smell.
"Wow, you smell like shit."
"What?" Turning around, Ray saw Evelyn behind him. "Do you know privacy?"
"This is my base." With a giggle she moved to the door. "So you still don’t want to join me?"
Ray took his hand to his chin. "How much would you pay?" She had worn the same dress that Ray had first seen her in, a thin white dress that didn’t hide her red panties. His member got erect without his own contest.
"Two million dark crystals for each month." She said with a smirk like she was giving him some sort of one-lifetime opportunity.
"Yeah, never mind that." Ray stepped closer. "I need an empty space with no one else allowed to enter for two months."
"Tonight is a party at the highest level; come there, and then I will show you the places that would fit you."
Suddenly a lightning bolt hit his mind: "Forget about it, and I should be busy by night. Can you tell me the price of feathers of idrals?"
"Oh. You want to buy some and test to counter their magic? Hmmm, they are quite hard to come by. I will sell each one for 1 million dark crystals."
Ray couldn’t keep his smile hidden. "Well, I must see my finances so I can buy them or not."
"Feel free."
Standing alone in the middle of the room, with his new idea, Ray sent a message to Cindi: "I need help to craft a weapon."
The answer came by after a few minutes: "Come to tonight’s party."
"Is it going to be boring?"
"During the party? Yes. Afterwards, no."
Ray didn’t respond. "Guess a day off wouldn’t hurt anyone..." he whispered to himself.
After taking a nap and shower, Ray was fully recharged. Browsing all of the base, it had everything he could imagine; ordering a suit and shoes that fit him, Ray was ready for the party.
"I’m going to hate this so much."
