Chapter 245: Chapter 245: Grim Future

Retrieving the tape was not hard, sneaking into a human police station was not exactly rock science for them.

Even though there was both a Fayera and Espara working there alongside the humans, they were too weak to be of any consequence.

After watching the tape, Annie couldn’t help but frown. " Well, I can tell you one thing, that wasn’t greed."

This confused Sanchez, " Let me explain." Annie continued. " It wasn’t greed himself but it was his sigil."

" His sigil?" Sanchez asked sounding even more confused.

Annie nodded, " Each of the seals have a sigil, Mary with her shroud and as for greed, it’s that expensive looking ring.

Actually this is good for us, very good in fact, I don’t know how greed lost his ring but as long as we can get it first, we can seal him back."

Sanchez nodded, " Let go then, let track down that bartender." They had seen what happened in the bar.

The ring fell from the police chief’s pocket and everybody saw it, as soon as they did greed overcame them.

They fought to the death to get the ring with everybody dying except the bartender who had a shotgun.

He took the ring and left while muttering mine. " Sanchez, You’ve seen how effective his sigil can be on its own.

Now imagine if greed himself uses it, he can a war of resources which will open another seal, a more dangerous one, the flaming horseman."

Sanchez nodded, she didn’t know as much about the seals as Annie, all she could do was follow her.

They set off tracing the trail of the bartender and it took them to a small town near the coast.

However the trail died there because the entire down had fallen to greed, except they didn’t fight to the death.

Everybody wanted to hoard resources, some killed each other and others cut their own stomachs to hide what they consider treasures.

A mother killed her own two children by trying to encase them in ice because according to her, they were hers and she needed to keep them to herself.

She didn’t want to share custody with their father and for a good reason, he was an abusive drunk.

In her mind, if the children were dead, she can keep them all to herself and they’ll no longer suffer his abuse.

Annie sighed, " This is what greed does, it twists your life for whatever you hold dear turning it into an obsession."

A similar thing happened with a woman who locked her boyfriend in her basement then killed his entire family.

Not because she hated him, she loved him so much that she wanted him all to herself in the literal sense.

The problem is, once the effects of greed wore off, they all still remember what happened and what they did.

So even those who survived would be left with trauma. Everybody in that town was effected.

Annie’s face was grim, Sanchez looked at her, " This is different, it doesn’t look like they fought over the ring."

Annie shook her head, " They didn’t, I’m afraid this was the actual greed, we were too late, he got his ring."

" So what now?" Sanchez asked but Annie didn’t know how to answer, she didn’t known how strong greed was now.

If they approached him, it’s possible they might just get killed. She sighed, " We have to search for him.

The longer we delay, the quicker the other seals might break but right now we need to go back, we can’t go in without a plan."

They went back to the black market and she called everybody back. " So Why’d you call us back?" Sam asked lazily.

Everybody gave him disdainful glances, he just laughed without shame, Sam was very proud of his lazi...laid back life.

" The situation has taken a turn, we need a plan. I suspect greed Will target the world leaders.

It would be great if he goes after humans but if he goes after the leaders of the top factions in the realm beyond the mist then we’re doomed.

But that’s unlikely, greed is a desire and desires can be resisted with a strong will so those with more powerful can still resist his effect.

His ability is quite different from Mary, it’s easier to deal with since it depends on the actions of those influenced.

Even if he magnify your greed, as long as you don’t act on it, you’ll be fine and so will those around you.

However that doesn’t make him any less dangerous, his own personal power will be staggering considering the greed in this world.

However that isn’t the biggest problem, his influence can speed up the unsealing of the other seals.

Imagine if he effects the leaders with his greed, there’s already tension with each country eyeing the resources of another."

" So, which seal will open next after greed?" Sam asked.

Annie shook her head, " I have no idea, it’s nearly impossible to predict that, there’s no order to it.

Other seals can be opened by the influence of others but others open randomly, like sloth and lust.

However it’s mostly likely going to be a sin." She answered.

" Why is that?" Suki asked. " I thought you said it was random so why would it be a sin not a horseman?"

" Because greed is a sin, the reason they’re grouped is because they’re related to each other, in the literal sense.

The seven sins are siblings and so are the apocalypse, they have more influence on each other than they do the others.

What makes them so terrifying is, unlike Bloody Mary, they can exist at the same time.

Any of the seals can come out anytime now alongside greed. However while I don’t know who might come next.

I know who will come last, the oldest of the horseman and the strongest being, believed to stand equal to the old Gods."

Annie sounded grim but all they got was, greed is out and about, more sins will follow and the horseman will not be far behind.

They had no idea how to deal with them as if yet and the world is speed running towards its destruction.

" Great, we’re fucked." Sam whispered and went to sleep. Annie looked at him and shook her head.

" Not necessarily, if we can get their sigils before the last horseman awakens we can seal everything back.

The issue is, how on the heaven are we supposed to do that?"
