Chapter 878: The Abyssal Sovereign Takes Flight

BOOOM!

A deafening explosion sounded from the Behemoth’s stomach; Leviathan’s island-sized body lurched sideways, and the darkness gathered at the tip of its tongue twisted with it.

Instead of striking the pier directly, the black beam tore past the southern edge of the coastal fortress. The beam left behind a flash of light that blinded those who watched it, and for half a second, Asmodeus saw nothing.

Then the world split open.

The beam carved through the ocean first, evaporating a trench across the sea and exposing the seabed beneath. Mountains of water rose on both sides of the path, held apart by the lingering abyssal energy as steam filled the storm like a second layer of clouds.

It reached land moments later.

Stone, soil, buildings and distant hills vanished beneath the beam. The earth melted into black glass as a ravine ripped miles inland, its edges collapsing one after another until the shape of the Grigor coast changed forever.

A second explosion followed from the horizon.

The shockwave struck the fortress.

Asmodeus crossed his arms as wind and debris swallowed the skies. Several Valkyries were thrown from formation while chunks of stone and molten earth spun across the port.

’That was a miss...?’

If the harpoon had not exploded inside Leviathan, forcing its body aside, the entire base would have disappeared.

Maybe even Grigor behind it.

Asmodeus lowered his arms.

His smile vanished.

"Logan!"

The old dwarf pulled himself from beneath the fractured control panel, blood running from his forehead.

"We hit it! The shell detonated inside the mouth!"

"I can see that!"

Leviathan’s enormous maw remained open.

Black smoke poured from between its teeth. Fragments of flesh and broken fangs fell into the ocean like collapsing towers, yet the wound already trembled with movement. Pale meat stretched across the torn sections while abyssal energy crawled through it in thick veins.

The harpoon had injured it.

But not enough.

Thousands of the smaller beasts circled the Behemoth, screeching as their mother’s pain spread through them. Their bodies convulsed, and their millions of mismatched eyes turned toward the fortress.

"Men, get your asses together, put out the fires! Repair those broken pipes!" Brando shouted to his men.

"Valkyrie’s TO ME!" Asmodeus rarely shouted or commanded the knights during battle, usually leaving it to Velvet.

However, he couldn’t do that now.

’They’re too slow...!’

Asmodeus grit his teeth while squeezing Axiom’s shaft.

The swarm descended from the storm like a living avalanche, claws cutting through rain and wings twisting between flashes of lightning. Those rising from the ocean climbed the walls or leapt into the air, their wet bodies stretching into grotesque shapes as they joined the attack.

Asmodeus watched them approach.

The heat inside his chest, restrained since the battle began, finally broke free.

"Enough."

A surge of immense pressure spread through his body as divine and abyssal energies fused inside his abdomen.

Blood-red light erupted from his body.

The storm around him stopped.

Not because the wind faded, but because everything within several metres was crushed beneath the pressure of his transformation.

His hair lengthened slightly as its colour shifted into silvery white. Golden light burned through his eyes, surrounded by the black sclera of his demonic form. His skin darkened naturally, taking on a deeper tone as his frame expanded, muscles tightening across his arms, chest and back.

From his back, sharp wings formed from condensed blood, each shaped like overlapping blades. They spread wider than his previous demonic wings, their edges glistening beneath the lightning as crimson droplets peeled away and floated upward against the rain.

Abyssal Sovereign.

The nearest beasts hesitated.

Asmodeus raised his head.

"Now you feel fear?"

His voice carried through the storm.

Axiom changed with him, its shaft wrapped in dark veins while blood-red light sharpened the halberd’s edge.

"It’s too late!"

Asmodeus vanished from the space, his body wrapped in a golden domain, reducing the speed of anything that entered by an extreme amount.

He reached the first swarm in an instant.

A crimson line crossed the sky merely seconds after.

To those who remained at the base, it felt as if they had only blinked.

Dozens of beasts split apart before the sound of his movement reached them. Their bodies remained suspended for a breath, then burst into black blood as the pressure following Axiom tore them into fragments.

He turned in midair.

His blood wings folded forward.

Thousands of sharp feathers detached from them, each feather shaped like a narrow blade. They filled the sky behind him before launching into the swarm.

SHRIIIIING!

The storm turned red.

The blood blades pierced wings, skulls, throats and swollen eye-shaped bodies. Hundreds of beasts fell immediately. Others tried to dive into the sea, but the feathers curved after them, cutting through the water before erupting from the surface with twitching corpses impaled along their lengths.

Asmodeus clenched his fist.

Boom!

All the feathers and scattered blood ignited into flames before exploding.

Dirty red explosions spread across the air and ocean, swallowing most of the smaller beasts in a chain of violent bursts. Their shrieks merged with the thunder until the entire coast seemed to scream.

Velvet hovered nearby, breathing heavily after exhausting her dragon flame.

Her eyes widened as she trembled, a rush of excitement and lust spreading from her dragon heart, the deep beating echoing inside her ears as she turned away to hide her blushing face.

"You’re showing off."

"Of course I am—what’s wrong?"

"Without me?"

"Come with me, then."

When he offered his hand, she clamped her thighs together, squishing her tight muscles, and she took it without a moment’s hesitation. "You sure know how to make a girl happy!" With a smile on her lips, a lavender blaze erupted across her scales as she rushed to his side.

Of course, following Velvet closely, his other women rushed to the scene.

"Master!"

"Don’t count me out, babe."

Levia joined them moments later with a cracked shield, but her eyes blazing with determination to fight. Vinea rose from the wall with Balmung across her shoulder, molten flames dripping from her horns and evaporating the rain before it touched her copper-dark skin.

"Darling, I killed two hundred!"

"Husband... I managed to protect the weapon, hehe."

Erika and Ciela followed behind them.

The remaining Valkyries gathered into several formations, circling the women like radiant wings spreading across the storm.

Levia, Vinea, Erika and Ciela.

’My cute wives, I must cherish and spoil you later!’

Asmodeus pointed Axiom at Leviathan.

"Do you see that disgusting wound along its maw? The torn flesh isn’t healing thanks to that bizarre weapon—Our goal is one! To make that wound worse, so they can shoot again!"

Velvet rolled her shoulders with a soft crack.

"Well, that sounds exciting."

Her eyes remained locked on Asmodeus’s form.

Velvet’s heart pounded faster as his aura constantly flared and boomed outward, weighing down even on her. "I want to bed him in this form..." She whispered.

"We strike together—don’t lose sight of the woman beside you. Don’t chase it into the sea, and don’t remain near its body after the attack."

Vinea glanced down at Balmung’s glowing edge.

"Afraid we’ll get eaten?"

"I’d rather not climb inside that mouth to retrieve you."

"How romantic."

Levia exhaled through her nose.

Though they knew he would probably dive in first without question, the women all smiled at his words.

"I’ll lead you."

Asmodeus launched first.

His sharp blood wings snapped once, creating a crimson shockwave that scattered the clouds behind him. Velvet flew at his right, lavender flames coiling around her halberd. Vinea remained on his left with Balmung burning in a mixture of holy light and molten demonic fire.

Levia, Erika and Ciela spread behind them.

The Valkyries followed.

Leviathan noticed their approach.

Millions of eyes shifted across its body.

The murky purple light gathered across them once again, but before it could, Levia held her shield in front of her and grunted. Her aura exploded, creating a massive domain around half the Abyssal’s head, unable to cover its body, but she caged a good amount of the eyes.

Thousands of massive black shields formed around the Valkyrie, Asmodeus and his group.

’She’s improved so much!’

Asmodeus marvelled at his wife’s domain; the shields linked together as Ciela flew ahead of them with her bow clasped tightly.

"Now!"

Ciela released the first volley.

Hundreds of enormous arrows of pure energy descended through Levia’s lightning circle, becoming wrapped in black electricity as they struck Leviathan’s flesh. Explosions marched across its back, rupturing eyes and tearing open clusters of pale tissue.

Erika vanished between the impacts.

Green flashes crossed Leviathan’s body as she cut through the exposed veins connecting its eyes. Each severed vessel burst upward, spraying black blood across the rain.

The Behemoth groaned.

"GURURURURURU!"

Its enormous body shifted, forcing waves outward in every direction.

Valkyries swept around the incoming water, forming radiant lances with their combined mana. Hundreds of attacks spiralled together, becoming a single storm of gold and silver that hammered the same section Ciela and Erika had opened.

Their attacks worked! Its corrupted flesh cracked.

Asmodeus focused on the revealed weakness, grasping Axiom tightly.

"There!"

Velvet roared.

Her body expanded beneath layers of lavender scales as the image of a colossal dragon formed around her. She gripped her halberd with both hands and swung, launching a crescent of condensed dragon flame toward the wound.

Vinea followed.

Balmung blazed as earth and fire gathered around its edge. Molten stone formed behind her like the blade of a mountain-sized sword, then collapsed into the holy weapon as she brought it down.

The two attacks crossed.

Lavender flame and molten gold struck Leviathan together.

The section of flesh erupted.

A ravine opened across its back, deep enough to reveal the black structures pulsing beneath the outer shell.

Asmodeus entered the explosion.

His body became a streak of crimson and black as he flew through burning flesh and shattered eyes. Axiom drew back beside his shoulder while all six blood wings folded toward the weapon.

Every droplet of blood surrounding him stopped.

Then it gathered around the halberd’s edge.

"Sanguine Severance!"

He swung.

A red line crossed Leviathan’s body.

Nothing happened at first.

Asmodeus passed the Behemoth and stopped above the ocean behind it, his wings spreading through the rain.

The red line opened.

Leviathan’s flesh split apart with a thunderous crack. Black blood erupted several hundred metres into the air while the combined force of the attack pushed the monster deeper into the ocean.

The Behemoth roared.

Its countless voices shook the clouds apart.

"That’s more like it!" Velvet shouted.

Below them, the Kraken Slayers moved again.

Logan stood between both damaged control platforms, screaming himself hoarse as engineers rushed to replace shattered braces and drag new harpoons into position.

"Load both! We fire before that wound closes!"

Brando stared at the cracked upper platform.

"The first weapon barely survived!"

"It only needs to survive one more shot!"

"And the second?"

Logan glanced at the scorched mana rings.

"...Probably."

Brando’s expression darkened.

"I hate this shit... I’m asking for a raise later."
