Chapter 137: Chapter 137: What Are You Saying? Seriously!
"Tomorrow are you and Sean going to the airport?"
On the way, Thea Lynch had just yawned when she heard Ian Preston call out to her.
Unable to hold back, she yawned again and then replied after two seconds, "Yes. Tomorrow morning."
They had briefly discussed it at the dinner table earlier; Ian Preston and Silas Cheney are going on a business trip tomorrow. To be precise, their flight is tonight.
"Sean Bell will probably join us."
"Don’t drive tomorrow," Ian reminded.
"..." Thea actually wanted to borrow a car tomorrow to go out and have some fun, but she hadn’t had the chance to tell anyone yet.
How did Ian know?
She didn’t respond, so Ian knew she had this plan and emphasized, "The road to the airport is too busy; it’s not safe."
"Alright, got it." Thea replied helplessly.
Back at the apartment, Thea entered the password and opened the door.
She had woken up very early, spent the whole day outside, and was already tired.
There’s still a video conference to attend when she returns.
"By the way..." Thea remembered something and turned around, "When will Third Brother and Fourth Brother come back?"
"Next Tuesday."
Three days later.
"I’ll call Sean Bell later. This time, both of you make sure to take good care of Uncle Zhou, and greet Silas Cheney for me."
"Alright." Thea nodded, "Safe travels. I have a meeting that’s quite urgent..."
Ian gestured with his chin, indicating, "Go inside."
After a pause, he said, "Wait for my return."
Thea was stunned, "...Got it."
——
Ian Preston and Silas Cheney met at the airport. Silas had temporarily returned to the estate to greet the old man.
"How is it?"
In the lounge, Silas arrived late and sat down beside Ian, answering, "Still the same."
The old man’s health is getting worse. Yesterday he could still walk normally and went to dine at The Lynch Family’s. Today, he couldn’t get out of bed.
"It’s up and down; I’ve asked people to keep an eye on him, there’s nothing to worry about."
Among these families, both The Lynch Family and The Cheney Family grandfathers have poor health. One came back from the battlefield carrying ailments, and the other is indeed aging.
Initially, Silas was quite concerned, but since having a talk with the old man, he’s become much calmer.
The old man expressed that everyone has their day eventually; living to this age itself is quite an achievement, and advised to let go a bit.
Previously, The Cheney Family’s old man wanted to keep Silas tied to him, as he’s his only descendant and he valued him immensely. But unfortunately, Silas didn’t follow the path laid out for him.
Now that things are like this, he gradually let go of Silas.
Take this business trip, for example; Silas initially didn’t want to go, wanting to stay at the estate to keep him company. It was the old man who urged him to focus on his career.
"Initially, I always thought about staying far away from him, as far as possible. But now, I find it hard to let go." Silas leaned back on the sofa, slowly exhaling.
"Forget it, let’s not talk about this."
Silas changed to a smiling face, gently elbowing Ian’s arm, "What did you chat about with Sean Bell?"
"Was something discovered?"
"Come on, spill the beans." Although he could guess roughly, Silas couldn’t restrain his curiosity.
"Hmm."
Ian answered lowly, and Silas became more excited, instantly sitting upright, "What did Sean say?"
"Nothing much, just asked about the situation."
"That’s all?"
Ian lifted his eyes to glance at him indifferently, "That’s all."
Silas: "..."
His expression remained unchanged, trying to get some answers from his face was genuinely difficult. Silas leaned closer, whispering lowly, "Did Sean not express wanting to compete with you?"
"Compete for what?" Ian leisurely looked at him.
"Third Brother, there’s no one else here." Silas smiled, "You used to consider Sean your love rival, didn’t you."
"As the saying goes, love rivals meeting, the eyes turn red."
Joking a bit, Silas stopped kidding around, and said, "I heard from Sean Bell, seems like Sean isn’t really interested in Thea Lynch."
Considering Ian’s attitude, it seems to be true.
"I also had a chat in the car with Thea." Silas cleared his throat, keeping a playful suspense: "But, I promised her not to spread it, even swore an oath..."
"If I say anything, I might be lonely for the rest of my life."
The next moment, Silas slyly glanced at Ian and chuckled, "However, you can ask, and I’ll give you a hint through expressions."
This shouldn’t... break any rules, right.
Ian was sitting aside, still focused on reviewing data. Hearing this, he didn’t even lift his eyelids, seemingly uninterested.
"Seriously?" Silas didn’t expect an overly enthusiastic reaction from Ian, but ignoring him completely was too outrageous.
Isn’t he curious?
Is he the only one concerned about this?
Can’t be.
"Third Brother, aren’t you curious?"
"I am."
Before Silas could speak again, he heard Ian calmly continue, "But I don’t want to hear it from you."
Silas: "..."
"What kind of words are these? What is this! I’m at risk here too."
"Since you promised her not to leak it, there’s no need to tell me." Ian returned the tablet to the assistant, signaling him to leave.
Then, Ian finally spoke, "Since she has her plans, follow her schedule; I’m not lacking this bit of time."
He’s waited for seven years already, no need to rush.
"This way, you won’t be lonely forever." Ian glanced sideways, "Has your grandfather urged you lately?"
"Don’t mention it." Upon hearing this, Silas felt annoyed, "Urged, of course. If you calculate, ever since Thea was about to return home, the old man started pressuring me."
The old man knows his health is deteriorating, doesn’t have much time left, so he hopes to see Silas settled while he’s still around.
Ever since before Thea returned home, the old man has incessantly urged Silas.
In the past, Silas had dated two or three people, but none lasted long; none were aimed at marriage.
The old man introduced some suitable candidates from well-matched families, but he personally dislikes arranged marriages, seeing this forced union without emotional foundation as disrespectful to anyone.
His parents’ example serves as proof.
His parents were forcibly bound in marriage and cannot talk about happiness; they are strangers to each other. Later, his mother chose to divorce and took him away from Kingsford.
Then, under the strong request from the old man, his mother brought him back to The Cheney Family.
His mother passed away early, and later Kingsford tried to take him away, but the old man didn’t agree and fought with them for a long time.
"When Thea had just returned, she did ease some of the pressure, the old man was too occupied to mind my affairs. But recently, the urging resumed."
Silas took out his phone and showed Ian a photo, "Look, this one, from The Sullivan Family in Riverbend."
