Chapter 116: Chapter 116: He Has Always Been Waiting for Her
Recently, the weather in Coronet hasn’t been great. The autumn wind is bleak.
Thea Lynch wore a knee-length trench coat, her curly hair cascading down in front. She kept her hands in her pockets, staring expressionlessly at Nina Sinclair.
Outsiders often said she and Nina Sinclair resembled each other somewhat.
That statement isn’t quite accurate.
She and Nina Sinclair are two completely different styles of people. Just in terms of appearance, you might find a trace of similarity in the eyes, at best, just barely meeting the criteria.
"I can’t help you." Thea Lynch left no room for negotiation.
"I can apologize to you for what happened before! I was infatuated with Ian Preston at that time, which is why I said those nasty things to you. I’m apologizing to you, but right now, my problems shouldn’t involve my father, should they?"
"Let’s put the past behind us and focus on now..."
"Why should we put the past behind us?" Thea Lynch interrupted her.
She found Nina Sinclair’s words amusing and couldn’t help but curl her lips into a slight smile: "How could you say something like that?"
"I know I was wrong, and it wasn’t just my decision back then! Ian’s mother told me to say those things to you! Now, if you could just go see Ian..."
"Tsk. I told you, no one can stop this matter. Don’t waste your energy."
"Even if Ian could stop it, that’s between you two. If you can persuade Ian, then good for you. But don’t expect help from me."
"Rather than coming to me, you’d better go find Aunt Rong."
"I’ve tried; she won’t see me!"
"That’s your problem." Thea Lynch shrugged. "Don’t say I’m not involved and can’t help you. Even if I were involved, I wouldn’t defend you."
"Instead of wasting time talking to me, why don’t you go back and rethink the current situation?"
"Just to remind you, it’s not as simple as involving your father anymore. You better realize that this fire is about to burn you."
Retracting her gaze, Thea Lynch looked at her watch, "I’ve got work to do."
Passing by Nina Sinclair, Thea Lynch left without looking back.
In the next second, her arm was suddenly grabbed from behind, causing Thea Lynch to frown and shake it off.
Before she could exert any strength, a short scream came from behind, making Thea Lynch pause and turn back in surprise.
Sean Bell appeared at some point and unceremoniously threw Nina Sinclair to the ground.
Behind him was the hurried Ian Preston.
He walked straight toward her, completely ignoring the figure on the ground, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her away.
Before leaving, Thea Lynch cast a cold glance at Nina Sinclair on the ground without saying a word.
——
Letting Ian Preston lead her away for a while, with the Stratus company building across the street, Thea Lynch resisted, "Let go first."
Seeing him unmoved, Thea Lynch sighed, "There are too many coworkers around here; I don’t want to explain."
It was rush hour, and there were many people coming and going from Stratus.
Her previous dealings with Silas Cheney had already caused quite a stir in the company, and she was too lazy to explain. Now being seen pulling and tugging with Ian Preston, she didn’t know how this would be interpreted.
Probably another major drama.
Ian Preston seemed to have thought of this as well; though reluctant, he released her first.
Thea Lynch stepped back a few steps to put some distance between them. She sat down on an empty seat in front of the bus stop and looked up at him.
The man was dressed in a suit, tall and standing beside her, blocking the wind for her.
However, his face didn’t look good, much like the weather today, with thick clouds, gloomy.
Thea Lynch didn’t meet his eyes and looked down to rub her wrist, "Just exchanged a few words, nothing major."
"I can tell she didn’t gain any advantage with you all."
"Otherwise, she wouldn’t have come to me, so persistent in thinking only I could save her father."
"Her father’s matter, there’s no turning point, right?"
Ian Preston’s gaze remained fixed on her the entire time. Knowing that Nina Sinclair was still around, he rushed over as soon as he could. He even ran into Sean Bell on the way.
Just as he thought, Sean Bell was also keeping an eye on Nina Sinclair’s movements.
Fortunately, nothing major happened.
After observing Thea Lynch for a while and confirming she wasn’t angry, Ian Preston slowly spoke, "Unless something unexpected happens, there will be results by next week."
Upon hearing this, Thea Lynch raised an eyebrow in surprise, "So soon."
"Third brother certainly shows no mercy."
Ian Preston didn’t defend himself; after all, he was the one pushing things behind the scenes all along.
Seeing the car of Foreman Chandler and the others across the street, Thea Lynch stood up, "I have to get to work."
"Okay." Ian Preston moved aside, his gaze brushing over her eyes, his tone not sounding like a suggestion: "I’ll pick you up tonight."
"That’s not necessary, is it?"
Thinking he might be guarding against Nina Sinclair, Thea Lynch smiled helplessly, "She wouldn’t dare do anything."
"If you have to guard against her, does that mean you’ll have to pick me up every day from now on?"
It was meant to be a joke, but who knew, after locking eyes with her, Ian Preston suddenly agreed, "Sure."
Thea Lynch: "..."
"I was just saying that casually; no need to trouble third brother." She had hands and feet and her bag contained items for self-defense. Even if she faced Nina Sinclair head-on, it wouldn’t necessarily be a problem.
"It’s no trouble. The apartment next door to you has been vacant; I’ll move in this afternoon."
"..."
Thea Lynch tugged at her lips, somewhat speechless.
That night, Thea Lynch deliberately turned off her phone and continued working overtime. As others gradually left, she lingered in the office for another half-hour, checking repeatedly by the window to ensure Ian Preston wasn’t downstairs before gathering her things to leave.
She pondered whether to turn on her phone as she left the elevator.
After all, Ian Preston wasn’t there.
His words from the morning were probably just talk.
The headquarters of LX Capital is completely in the opposite direction. Ian Preston wasn’t likely to actually move here.
The neighborhood she lived in now, while a high-end apartment, offered her a pretty good living experience. But for Ian Preston, this place likely wasn’t very suitable.
When the elevator reached the first floor, Thea Lynch tucked her phone into her pocket and walked out quickly.
Just as she reached the lobby, her gaze inadvertently caught something, and she abruptly stopped.
Several chairs were placed opposite the reception desk on the ground floor of Stratus for guests to rest. There wouldn’t be any guests at this time.
But in her line of sight, a man sat alone on one of the chairs, his long legs casually crossed. From Thea Lynch’s angle, he looked slightly down, as if he were sleeping.
She checked the time; it had been a full four hours since her usual closing time.
If Ian Preston had been waiting from the start, that meant... he had waited for four hours.
Thea Lynch quickly turned on her phone, trying to find any missed calls or messages.
Expecting some urging or reminders from Ian Preston.
But there were none.
Silently, he had waited here for her all along.
