Chapter 1334: Chapter 54: Debts of Gratitude Amid Danger, Spiritual Medicine Cannot Fill Lingering Shame
Zhang Yan was cultivating inside the cave mansion when he suddenly felt a surge of unease in his heart. He couldn’t help but focus on listening. After a while, he smiled and called Jing You over, saying, "Go and pass on the message that if that daoist nun from last time comes, there is no need to stop her at the door."
Jing You obeyed the order and retreated. Shortly after, he returned to the cave to report, "That Wei Daoist indeed came, and she has been brought to the main hall."
Zhang Yan asked, "Did she say anything?"
Jing You thought for a moment and said, "Not really. Last time she came, this daoist nun acted arrogantly, looking completely unbeatable. But this time, her demeanor is cold and silent, as if she has become a different person."
Zhang Yan immediately understood and instructed, "Have someone serve her fine tea."
Jing You cautiously asked, "Master will not see her?"
Zhang Yan smiled and said, "I will see her, but there’s no need to rush."
Jing You immediately caught on, realizing that Zhang Yan intended to make the daoist nun wait. He chuckled and bowed, "I understand."
Wei Daoist waited in the hall for a moment without seeing Zhang Yan, and she became impatient. If Zhang Yan had directly refused to see her, it would have been straightforward. But to invite her in and then not come made it awkward for her to stay or leave.
After waiting a while longer, she couldn’t sit still and went to the hall door, asking a disciple on duty, "When will your Sect Leader arrive?"
The disciple politely replied, "Fellow Daoist, please don’t worry. The Sect Leader said he will be here shortly."
Wei Daoist returned to her seat with a heavy heart. After a while, still hearing nothing, she gritted her teeth and approached the disciple again, saying, "Please inform him that I carry something your Sect Leader desires, and I have urgent matters to discuss that can’t be delayed."
The disciple said, "Alright, I will report this for you."
After a tea break, just when Wei Daoist doubted Zhang Yan would come, she heard a hearty laugh from outside. A mystic robed Daoist, with an impressive demeanor, entered the hall and bowed to her, "Daoist Wei, thank you for waiting. After our brief meeting last time, what guidance do you bring this time?"
Wei Daoist, in a humble position, had to lower her head. She stiffly returned the greeting and said, "I have come because fellow Daoists encountered danger at sea and are besieged. I wish to request your assistance."
Zhang Yan went to the main seat and said, "Please take your time to explain, what exactly happened?"
Fearful that Zhang Yan would refuse, Wei Daoist didn’t dare reveal her true intention, saying only that they were searching for Immortal Relics with others when attacked by Demon Cultivators, becoming trapped at sea, and she was the only one who escaped to seek help.
Zhang Yan smiled faintly, but didn’t expose her, saying, "To use such a trapping technique, it must be the work of a giant sea demon. How could a poor Daoist have such abilities?"
Wei Daoist anxiously said, "I heard that True Master Zhang’s Daoist Skills and Divine Skills are all outstanding. If you and I work together to distract the demon from outside, the others can be saved without you actually having to fight."
Zhang Yan pondered for a moment, then nodded, "If that’s the case, let’s go together."
Wei Daoist was stunned, her eyes wide with disbelief, "True Master Zhang is... willing to go?"
Zhang Yan smiled, "Didn’t you come for this matter? Saving people is urgent. Let’s do our best at sea. Let’s set off now."
Wei Daoist initially thought Zhang Yan would make all kinds of excuses or at least demand a hefty reward. She had prepared for it, but he didn’t bring it up at all, which was beyond her expectations. Not wanting to owe a favor, she bit her lip and said, "Since I’m requesting your help, I won’t let you come in vain."
Zhang Yan seemed unconcerned and simply said, "Saving lives is the priority; other matters can wait."
Wei Daoist took a deep breath, nodded heavily, stood up and said, "Then let’s set off."
Zhang Yan gestured with his hand, "No rush, for safety’s sake, we should call another fellow Daoist."
Wei Daoist hesitated and reluctantly said, "I borrowed a fine mount to get here in such a short time. Two can ride it, but it can’t carry three."
Zhang Yan chuckled, "It’s no matter. I and the fellow Daoist are both adept at escape techniques. Though not necessarily as fast as your mount, it is certainly quicker than borrowing the Yuji Tiangang Wind."
Wei Daoist was skeptical, but with Zhang Yan’s assurance, she had no choice but to trust him.
Zhang Yan instructed the disciple on duty, who immediately went to carry out the order. Soon, Zhang Boyant arrived at the hall, and bowed, "Pavilion Master, do you have any tasks for me?"
