Chapter 526: Chapter 526 : (Extra) Jiang Muchen’s Love Story (10)
"Greetings to Your Highness, Shuiran Palace Master, Fire Guardian Jiang!"
All leaders who led their respective packs in Wuyang Palace fell on their knees in front of Jiang Muchen. The latter harrumphed and flicked his sleeves with disdain.
"Save me the senseless greetings and answer my question instead."
The pack leader who just attacked Liu Chengjiu cupped his hands in front of Jiang Muchen.
"Answering Your Highness, the shameless remainder of Silver Moon Pack dared to exploit His Majesty the Heavenly Emperor’s benevolence for their selfish aim. I cannot and will not let it happen under my watch. I decided to eliminate the Liu siblings for good to save the wolf clan’s face in the Heavenly Empire."
Jiang Muchen scoffed.
"Is that so? By that definition, should the Heavenly Emperor personally come to Wuyang Palace to thank you for your boundless loyalty?"
The pack leader who just spoke gasped. He was so frightened that his knees went slack and he fell backward in fear.
"Of course not!" He fell into a deep kowtow, his entire frame quivering with deference. "This subject did not dare!"
"Or are you actually criticizing the Heavenly Emperor’s decision to allow the Silver Moon Pack to join this war?" Jiang Muchen inquired further.
"No, of course not!" The pack leader started to panic. "Your Highness, please do not misunderstand! I am just... This subject just wanted to help!"
Jiang Muchen chuckled coldly.
"If you really want to help, then do not create more troubles for His Majesty to solve. The next person to sit on Wuyang Palace’s throne better be someone capable, whose reign lasts at least ten years to come."
"Yes, Your Highness!" Everyone shouted in unison.
Behind Jiang Muchen, Liu Chengjiu cupped his hands and spoke, "Thank you for your help, Your Highness."
Jiang Muchen turned to look at the Liu siblings with a frown.
"No need to thank me. I did not come here to save you personally. If anything, I did it to make your win during the annual hunt worthwhile. It would leave a dark mark in the history of the hunt if the winner dies tragically just days after receiving the reward."
Liu Chengjiu’s pupils shook when he heard Jiang Muchen’s harsh words. Still, his gratitude transcended his pride. And so, he bowed his head and replied, "This subject understands. In that case, this subject thanks His Majesty the Heavenly Emperor deeply for saving his life today."
Jiang Muchen rolled with his eyes and averted his gaze from Liu Chengjiu.
"Suit yourself," he snapped.
And then, to the other wolves, he barked, "What else are you waiting for? Are you here to conduct a war or organize mass punishment by kneeling?"
"Yes, Your Highness!"
"We apologize, Your Highness!"
Jiang Muchen stepped off the ground and returned to his original spot next to Head Servant Fan.
The wolves reorganized themselves for the war. Thanks to Jiang Muchen’s interference, they did not dare to mistreat the Silver Moon Pack again. Unfortunately, it did not mean that they automatically accepted the pack among them.
With no strong alpha warriors to uphold the dignity of the pack, they became nothing but a heavy burden for any alliance. They probably wouldn’t even last one round, so what was the point of taking them in?
Jiang Muchen cocked his head to the side as he watched Liu Chengjiu, his cowardly alpha brother Liu Chengyun, and the weak remainder of the Silver Moon Pack.
What were they planning to do, now that no alliance was willing to take them in?
Jiang Muchen folded his arms before his chest and waited to see what would happen.
Unexpectedly, Liu Chengjiu led his younger brother and the rest of his pack away from the battlefield.
"....."
Jiang Muchen could barely believe his eyes.
"What the hell?" He muttered. "What are they doing?"
Head Servant Fan had a complicated expression across his face.
"Reporting to Your Highness, apparently the Silver Moon Pack has agreed to withdraw from the palace master election on their own accord."
"I know that," Jiang Muchen snapped. "Bring Liu Chengjiu here. I want to hear what he has to say."
Freaking hell.
Jiang Muchen allowed these spineless wolf siblings to win the annual hunt and they wasted a precious wish just like this. If he knew that this would happen, he might as well reject their proposition in the first place and take the first prize for himself!
If the story circulated around the empire, wouldn’t he become the laughingstock of the entire realm?
Liu Chengjiu and Liu Chengyun were quickly summoned before Jiang Muchen. Both of them fell on their knees when they arrived before the alpha lion.
"We are here to answer your summon, Your Highness," Liu Chengjiu said, his head bowed in deference.
"What the hell was that?" Jiang Muchen snapped impatiently. "You asked to join the war and then you retreated before the war even began? Do you take this entire election for a joke?"
Liu Chengjiu’s eyes met Jiang Muchen’s, a storm of defiance and desperation brewing in his voice as he explained their predicament.
"Your Highness, with or without your assistance just now, we know for a fact that no alliance would take us," he said. "Whether we die now or later is only a matter of time. We have done our best to uphold the dignity of our pack and survive. Alas, despite our humblest plea and efforts, no alliance is willing to accept us. Our fate is sealed. That much is clear.
What do you want us to do, Your Highness? Should we all lie down on the battlefield and let the two alliances trample us to death when the war begins?"
Liu Chengjiu wept bitterly, tears cascading down his cheeks and onto his trembling lips. Grief-stricken, his eyes were rimmed with crimson, making him appear utterly helpless.
"If we don’t have much time left in this world, why not just choose a less violent way to die?" he asked.
