Chapter 454: A Thousand Days and Nights
"Bleargh!"
Coughing up a great amount of blood which quickly dyed the ground crimson, Khal’s face turned ugly as he wiped the corner of his mouth with the backside of his hand and used his Power Core to heal quickly.
[It seems while you can indeed read the words using different means, you can’t avoid getting hit by greater aftereffects either.]
"What should I do then?" Straightening his back while keeping his lotus position, Khal asked with a rather angered face.
However, although he seemed to be on the verge of throwing a tantrum before ripping the scroll in his hand into two, he at least was mature enough not to do something so foolish.
Instead, what he did was calm himself down and once he was able to focus once again and his mind was soothed, he started to look for other solutions.
It was an undeniable fact that his previous attempt was an insanely huge fail and if he happens to try to do it again not only will he cough up an even greater amount of blood but perhaps even some of his organs will be damaged!
This showed also just how severe his current situation was!
[Why don’t you try to take it slow? Until now you were trying to read the text as if you had been reading a normal article despite knowing it is not one.]
"Taking it slow?" Khal mumbled quietly as he touched his chin with his right index finger and thumb.
[Yeah, try and read each word for minutes, if needed for hours. Maybe if you do that you will allow your soul to get adapt to the power that resides within the scroll.]
"That seems pretty logical to me. Let’s see if it works or not." nodding with newer vigor, Khal took a deep breath and once he was ready started to focus on the very first letter in the scroll.
At first, Khal felt the same piercing pain in his body, but as the seconds ticked by the sensation gradually became weaker before pieces of information he has never heard, learned, or seen before flooded his mind one by one.
"Huh? Aren’t th-"
Whoosh!
"Pfft!!" blood not less than a few moments ago broke out from Khal’s mouth like water from a broken tap, painting the already red ground below him even deeper!
Even the scroll got some blood on it, but almost as if it was a sponge it sucked it up without leaving behind even the slightest trace at all!
[I see! Now I understand!]
While struggling to stop the blood from flowing out of his mouth and also resisting the urge to scream from the immense pain he was feeling, Khal forced one part of his mind to concentrate on the words that Nova was speaking.
[What I have said was right, you need to focus on each word one by one and allow your soul to get adapt to the power within the scroll!]
[However, if you get distracted or foolishly decide to jump onto the next word before your soul could get used to that mysterious power, your body will be damaged gravely as a result!]
"Cough... Cough... Thank you for the obvious observation, Miss Deity!" Khal mumbled with noticeable sarcasm and quickly used his Power Cores once again to boost his recovery.
After almost half an hour of resting and using his Rejuvenating Light to recover the damages within his body as this time some of his organs got damaged too, Khal took a deep breath before exhaling and focusing on the first letter.
This time, however, he closed everything out. He closed everything that was around him out and did nothing but concentrated on the single letter at the very start of the scroll.
As for Nova, knowing this was no time to joke around nor did she wish to see Khal’s soul getting crushed all of a sudden because of her, she decided to remain silent while also withdrawing carefully her presence that so far only Khal was able to sense.
Time started to pass in silence on the mountain top where seconds quickly turned into minutes then slowly into hours!
And just like that, an entire day has passed!
Bam!
A soft power all of a sudden broke out from Khal’s body about twenty-eight hours after he started to stare at the letter, sending gentle ripples in every direction on the very top of the mountain.
"Sigh..." lowering the scroll in his hand and closing his eyes, Khal exhaled deeply which at this moment looked far from being a normal sigh.
Deep gray smoke akin to steam from a chimney of a factory flew out of both the nostrils and the mouth of Khal before they began to float toward the sky and slowly disperse into nothingness!
"How long did it take me?" once exhaling all the air from his lungs into his surroundings and inhaling a mouthful of fresh air, Khal closed his eyes and asked calmly.
[More than a day.]
"More than a day..." Khal mumbled those four words quietly before letting out a helpless sigh and once his eyes were open he raised the scroll in his hand before his face.
"More than one day for a single letter..." Khal looked at the words in the scroll without reading them, and after counting them he noticed there were at least a thousand!
What did that mean? It meant that at the very least he will be living on this mountain for a thousand days if not more and that number will possibly increase over time!
"Well... It will be quite a lonely journey for me, but if this is what I need to help me and the real Khal finally get separated I am more than determined to spend three years here doing nothing but staring at words every single day!"
[You talk like you don’t have me here.]
Khal just shook his head at that statement and without saying anything else now focused on the second letter, closing out all the unnecessary things from his senses, including Nova.
