Chapter 155: Chapter 155
George stood still with the phone against his ear.
For a second, he did not understand what he had heard.
No help.
If something happened to him, the police would not come.
His first thought was simple.
’How?’
He was already under another hand now. The unknown organization had forced him down, but after that it had not killed him. In George’s mind, that meant he had been pulled into an alliance, even if it was not an equal one.
Then how could an attack still come so quickly?
"Sir," George said, forcing his voice to stay steady, "you have to protect me."
There was no answer.
George’s eyes sharpened.
"Sir?"
The line had already been cut.
George slowly lowered the phone and stared at the screen.
For a while, he only stood there.
The office around him felt too quiet. Outside the door, his assistant was probably waiting for orders. But inside George’s head, one question kept hitting the same place.
’What is happening to me?’
He had lost his old contacts. His name had been dragged near the Eshan Verma case. His security had been broken on the road.
And now another underworld organization was preparing to move against him.
George’s face twisted.
"Then why make an alliance with me?" he muttered.
If the unknown side wanted him dead, it could have finished him on the road. If it wanted to use him, then why was he still being thrown into danger?
The more George thought, the angrier he became.
He reached into the drawer and took out the second phone.
It was the phone connected to the number Adam had given him. George had not wanted to call it unless he had no choice. Calling that number meant admitting again that he was standing under someone else’s shadow.
But now he had no patience left.
He dialed.
On the other side, Adam was sitting in his room when the copied phone rang.
He looked at the screen and paused.
George.
For a moment, Adam was genuinely surprised.
George should not have called him this quickly. If he was calling now, either he had found something important or he had panicked.
Adam answered.
Before he could speak, George’s angry voice came through.
"If you wanted to kill me, you should have killed me directly."
Adam’s eyes narrowed.
George continued without stopping. "First you frightened me. Then you talked about alliance. Then you send people after me again? What kind of game are you playing?"
Adam became still.
For one second, he did not answer.
’Attack?’ he thought.
He had not ordered any attack on George.
That meant something else had moved.
But Adam could not sound surprised too openly. To George, he had to remain the person in control.
So his voice stayed calm.
"Calm down first," Adam said.
George breathed harder on the other side. "Calm down?"
"Yes," Adam said. "Calm down and tell me what happened properly. Shouting will not help you. If you keep screaming instead of thinking, the consequences will be yours."
George’s mouth closed.
The words hit because they were true.
Over the past few days, nothing he had relied on had saved him. Every time he had shouted, the room had only become smaller around him.
Still, the warning he had received was too much to swallow quietly.
George forced himself to speak, but his voice still carried anger.
"I got information from my source," he said. "An underworld organization is preparing to take action against me."
Adam’s eyes changed.
George continued, "And the police have orders not to help me. Do you understand? I made an alliance with your organization, and now I am being targeted."
For Adam, one name appeared at once.
World Zone.
The thought came so sharply that his fingers tightened around the phone.
’They are back.’
He had not forgotten them. He had only pushed them away for a while. World Zone had retreated before, but retreat was not defeat. Now George was tied to Adam’s secret network from the outside.
Adam’s first work was simple.
He had to keep George alive.
"First thing," Adam said. "If we wanted to target you, we would not have stopped halfway."
George went quiet.
That sentence entered his mind slowly.
It was true.
The road attack had already shown enough. If that masked man had wanted George dead, George would not be holding this phone.
That meant the danger was coming from someone else.
George swallowed.
"Then what do I do?"
Adam leaned forward slightly.
"Times have changed," he said. "You were already being targeted by another organization. Now that organization is your enemy, and it is our enemy too."
George closed his eyes for a moment.
That answer did not remove the danger.
But it gave him one thing he had not had last time.
He was not alone.
When the news scandal had hit him, every contact had stepped back. Even the police had told him to hide. Now, at least this unknown side was saying it would stand against the enemy.
Even if George hated relying on them, he needed that.
"Tell me what to do," George said.
"Activate whatever network you still have," Adam replied. "Find every asset of yours that can be attacked. Warehouses, routes, offices, people close to you, anything that can be used to hurt you."
George’s mind started moving.
That was something he could do.
He still had people in transport and around land offices. His influence had fallen, but it had not disappeared completely.
"I can do that," he said.
"Do it fast," Adam said. "And stay in continuous contact with me."
George did not answer immediately.
Adam’s voice became colder.
"If you think hiding information from me will protect your pride, the loss will be yours."
George understood the meaning.
"I will stay in contact."
Adam cut the call without waiting for another word.
Then he immediately called Bruno.
Bruno answered quickly.
"Sir," he said.
Adam opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Bruno spoke first. His voice was excited in a way Adam had not expected.
"Sir, I have very good news," Bruno said. "I found a hideout of the World Zone organization, and I am going there right now."
