Chapter 199: Persistin’ Pain And The Criminal Mind

[FROLO]

The wine glasses had clicked more than once on the executive floor tonight.

Sergei and Katya had been having a conversation so normal. One so mundane that it was almost the kind of sight that no one was ever going to understand.

They had talked about so many things tonight. From Sergei’s complaints about how the basil he had bought didn’t like him.

To Katya, laughing at Sergei’s private battle with water cans as he struggled to bring his plants down from the penthouse to the executive floor.

They had tripped over the stairs one too many times because, apparently, the elevator was moving too fast for their liking.

It was messy and unhinged, yet beneath it all was the normalcy of two people who had been friends for over a year and had slowly found their safe spaces in each other.

"I think he’s going to come again," Katya whispered as the security guard came for his third sweep of the floor. He had come the first time because Sergei and Katya had been laughing a little too loudly.

And Sergei may or may not have tripped the silent alarm on the executive floor. It was crazy how the guard was like their guardian, truly.

But did it matter when happiness was all the duo had on their faces?

"Shh, don’t make a sound. He will tell us to go to bed again," Sergei said, like this was the most normal of things.

Like the big alpha who was hunched over under the open kitchen table had the greatest of covers. Like the guard wasn’t just coming to make sure they hadn’t drunk themselves to death.

"He’s going to kick us out this time," a drunk Katya said as he crouched beside Sergei, their focus on the public elevator the guard had been using.

The poor man had made three trips just because he didn’t trust two drunkards while on his job.

"Do you think basils like sunlight?" Sergei snorted, and Katya covered his mouth with his hand, shushing him. The alpha froze for a moment.

Before he burst out laughing, giving up their position under the table.

"He came with someone," Katya added, like they hadn’t already been found.

"Are you seeing Miss Anya?" Katya snickered, hiding still with Sergei.

They had downed three bottles in the past two hours. That was a lot for both of them, but what the hell, right? Besides, friends could drink together, no?

"Young Master," a tired Anya voiced, and Sergei tried to shrink, but then the space wasn’t enough for the both of them.

"I don’t think she sees us," Sergei whispered, and Katya looked ahead at the woman who was barely two feet away from them.

"I think she teleported already," Katya snorted.

"I’m in trouble," Sergei said slowly, his drunken haze making him lighter and happier.

"No shit. Tomorrow she’s going to drag us by our ears," Katya said, and Sergei laughed quietly this time.

"Wait, how do you know that?" Sergei asked, amusedly, still drunk off his ass.

"It’s what Svet and Andre usually do to me the day after," Katya laughed.

"Shh, I think the senator is here too," Sergei said as two more figures showed up behind the exhausted guard.

"Yeah, we’re dead," Katya added as he tried to make out what was happening in the office, which had been littered with nearly everything.

There were spoons all over and chopsticks stuck to the wall from their failed dart games.

There were several pillows just sitting around, and it didn’t help that they had dragged some of the meeting chairs from the conference room and ditched them all around the executive floor.

"I have an idea..." Sergei chirped suddenly like there wasn’t already a chance for them. They had been caught red-handed, and they had doomed the executive floor so much that it was almost impossible to make a way out of this.

"What is it?"

"There’s an emergency fog button somewhere on these walls. If we find it and press it, they’ll be distracted for ten minutes, and we could use that chance to run away," Sergei said, and Katya stared at him, holding back his snickers.

"Don’t you even think about it, Sergei," Anya warned, and Sergei snickered.

"What do you say, Solnyshka?" Sergei offered, and Katya just laughed.

"They know both our scents. We’re fucked if they catch us," Katya reminded sheepishly.

"Then we make sure they don’t catch us... But it might be a while because I can’t see straight," Sergei said, like that was a new emergency.

And Katya held up two fingers for him.

"How many fingers do you see?"

"That’s easy, six," Sergei said, and Anya sighed exaggeratedly at the sight.

Yet deep down, she was glad the man wasn’t trying to murder the senator again. Still, was it any better that she was here instead of in her bed at nine o’clock in the evening?

"I see four, but we can compromise with five," Katya laughed right as Sergei stared at him knowingly.

"Got the button?"

"Yup... Also, I don’t think that’s the senator," Sergei said, and Katya squinted hard but failed.

"I think I’m going blind," Katya suddenly said, his voice panicky.

"Noo, you can’t be blindd... How will we work together?" Sergei said as he sat on the floor, with Katya sitting right in front of him, too.

"Can you check if I’m blind?" Katya asked, and Sergei agreed, only to grab Katya’s face in his palms and pull the omega closer. Then he used his fingers to open Katya’s eyes like he was trying to find something.

But what was there to find?

"It’s nine in the evening, Sergei. Get your ass back to your penthouse, you brat!" Anya screeched, and Sergei paused, turning to the woman with a pout like this was really not the time.

"But Solnyshka might be blind... He can’t be blind... I don’t want him to be blind, Anya," Sergei defended his hands holding Katya’s face like that was all that mattered.

"How many bottles did they drink?" Anya asked the guard who looked like this was the most unbelievable shift he had had. And the fact that his boss was involved felt like a fiery tale.

"One wine bottle, they broke two wine bottles, and they may have drunk two bottles of alcoholic drinks with over forty percent alcohol. I snatched one from them, but when I came to check on them again, they had more.

"I already took the knives and sharp objects before I called you. And I think they both called the senator in their drunk haze. He might be on his way here," the guard said, like this wasn’t what he was being paid for.

"The senator?" Anya asked, as if that was the most absurd of things.

A sober Sergei wanted to kill Aleksandr just earlier today, and a wasted Sergei was calling the senator? What the fuck was going on?

"I’m sorry you’re blind, Solnyshka... I’ll give you my eyes," Sergei whined sadly, and Anya had just about had enough.

So, she walked to the tap, grabbed a tray, and filled it with water. She was not going to waste her sleep over two idiots who had been determined to ruin their night.

And when the tray was filled with water...

Anya walked past the guard, who was looking at her like that was the most dangerous thing she could do.

Even Volkov, who had come for emotional support, stared at the mess, and he knew this wouldn’t end well.

Still, he pulled out his phone like a man documenting the most unbelievable of memories.

And Anya threw the water at the...

Right as the elevator dinged.

The senator was here.
