Chapter 143: You Claim It’s Not In The Cards
[KATYA]
Katya had been on suppressants for months since he separated from Yaroslav. He had been doing his very best, being composed and all. But somewhere along the road, his suppressants began failing.
Everything he tried to keep himself was not working.
And just weeks ago, he was told by the doctor that his body was rejecting suppressants, that none of them would ever work.
It wasn’t what he had wanted to hear from his doctor, but it was what the doctor had for him, and Katya hated it so much. He had wanted relief, not something that would never grant him relief.
And now, he was suffering because of it all.
Maybe he should have picked an alpha a little sooner.
Maybe he should have gotten off the damn suppressants sooner, but fuck what the hell was he supposed to do?
Wiping his tears that had started pooling, Katya decided to walk away from the office. He needed to get out of this confined space. His own scent was choking him, reminding him that he had no one to help him through his heat.
Of course, there was the option to hire alphas for his heat, but Katya didn’t want anyone; he wanted Yaroslav.
The one thing that his omega refused to understand because even now, that bastard cheating husband was the only person his mind was filled with, even when he called Alek.
The elevator dinged.
And Katya smelled him.
Senator Aleksandr was here.
Katya should have been happy. Elated even, but he felt disappointed in a way he didn’t understand. Almost like he had been expecting someone else. Someone he refused to voice out.
But maybe this was his truth, right?
So, when the senator reached the hallways that led to his office, Katya ran to the senator, like the man starved for affection that he was.
At least that was what his body was screaming at him at that moment, anyway.
And Alek... he ran toward him too, meeting the omega in the middle in an embrace.
"You... You came," Katya breathed as the senator hugged him, kissing his hair while trying hard to keep himself in check.
But it wasn’t easy.
It had never been easy to be around Katya, even on a regular day.
The senator was trying his very best to be a good person, but fuck, Katya’s citrus scent engulfed the entire executive floor. And the fact that Alek couldn’t smell anyone there, too, made it even more dangerous.
Because the senator had to fight between being the good man that Katya knew over the months, and being the alpha who wanted to stake a claim on his omega boyfriend, who was clinging onto him for dear life
"You called, little rose," Alek said, breathing Katya’s scent from his neck so deeply.
He breathed him in like a starved man.
Like breathing that sweet scent from the source was a need for him.
Katya felt himself slicking up.
It was a natural reaction to the alpha’s hold.
To the way the man was keeping him steady.
And fuck if he didn’t miss a bastard from his past. The man who knew him better than Katya ever knew even himself.
Gods, it was a tiring moment for him because then he was hit with the memories of the past three months.
Of the way he had suffered just because Yaroslav had had a baby.
And then back to the beginning, when Yaroslav chose someone else over him so publicly.
And Katya...
He cried.
Alek was a safe place for him.
Always has been.
With no one on the executive floor, Katya could finally let out some of his emotions.
"There, there, little rose," the senator said warmly, the rose in his hand hitting the poor and reminding Katya that this man was a romantic even when Katya was falling apart.
The senator held him close.
Like they were not a senator and a chairman.
Like they were not the alpha and omega.
Instead, he held him like they were just Katya Romanov and Aleksandr; two people who needed each other in the most painful of ways but couldn’t act on it.
Maybe because of where they were, not to mention the fact that they had never gone past the limits of a kiss. This was genuinely the furthest they had ever gone with each other.
The hug that had Alek holding onto Katya for dear life.
Katya let himself be held as he cried his eyes out.
The alpha didn’t try to push him, didn’t say things to make him feel better. He just let Katya cry. Maybe because he knew just how hard the past few months had been for the omega.
It had all been hectic.
Way too hectic.
"I wanna go home," Katya sniffled a few minutes later, and the senator didn’t need to be asked twice.
He pulled back for the hold, staring into Katya’s now puffy eyes, wiping his tears gently like the gentleman he was.
"My beautiful little rose," the senator cooed, and Katya let out a chuckle at that.
He knew he looked terrible, yet Alek was her comfort like he was the prettiest little thing that he’d ever seen.
"I’m puffy... and bloated... and hormonal... I’m... I’m nothing close to beautiful," Katya complained, and the senator kissed his nose before leaving kisses on Katya’s face like he was reminding the omega who he really was to the senator.
"You’re always beautiful, little rose. Always," Alek reassured.
Katya felt a blush creeping up his cheeks. And shyly the omega hid his face against the senator’s shoulder, with the senator opening his arms for Katya to lean in for a few more minutes.
"Let’s go home, little rose," Alek said, brushing Katya’s hair gently.
He was staring at Katya like the omega was the most precious of things, and Katya could feel his heart with affection.
Only that his mind was filled with something else.
Something so traitorous.
Especially when he saw the rose on the floor.
’The lilies would have looked prettier on this floor,’ Katya thought to himself before he shook his head, and Alek thought he was telling him it was time to go home.
Katya didn’t correct him this time.
He didn’t even have the strength to say yes or no.
He wanted to be in his nest and just forget about how hectic the day was for him.
The whole week, in fact.
"You ready now?" Alek asked gently, and Katya nodded.
He didn’t trust himself to form any proper words right now anyway.
So, the senator held the omega’s hand tightly before they walked back to the elevator, all phones forgotten. Katya didn’t want to think of anything anymore.
He had heard the landline to his office ring a few times. But he wasn’t going to answer it.
Maybe because he knew who would be calling that incessantly.
And just then, the public elevator opened to reveal a very sweaty Sergei Moskowsky.
The alpha had used the private elevator.
Katya knew Sergei despised shared elevators. Yet he had used that to get to Katya.
Maybe because the senator had been using the private one to come to Katya.
The realization knocked the breath out of Katya. As if that wasn’t enough, Katya’s knees buckled when their eyes met.
"Easy there, little rose," the senator said, and Katya let out a pathetic whine when he saw Sergei’s fisted hands.
Oh, how he wanted to hear ’Solnyshka’ again.
